In the North Pole, the natives kill wolves by packing meat and a knife
with snow. As the wolf licks the snow-packed meat the knife gradually
sliced the wolf’s tongue, and as more blood comes out of the tongue, the
harder will the wolf lick the knife, its appetite stimulated by its own
blood till the wolf bleeds to death.
The success of most speeches hangs on the
first 20 seconds. Our conversations with others are likewise subject to
this rule of thumb. The storytelling also depends on this first 20
seconds. Many storytelling went down the drain because of poor beginning.
Imagine the most boring person and the most spellbinding storyteller you
know. How do they start a story?
The sole objective of
story’s beginning is to focus the audience and make them listen for more.
It is the bait that entices the audience to hear more; a good story will
take care of the rest.
