OK, this gig is actually billed as Tugtugan Sa Kalye. Well, the rock scene in Aurora has
gone mainstream and the organizers of Aurora Day decided to mine the talents of these
local kids instead of hiring the Musical Extravaganza from Bongabong or an unknown
showband from Manila. And they took the celebration on the streets, literally. They closed
the main highway from Kabiran to the Capitol and put up 2 platforms made from cargo
palettes, one in front of Diosa's Coffe Shop (a coffee shop that rarely serves coffee) and
one in front of Seaoil gas station.The Diosa's platform served as the staging ground for
the enterprising Samahan ng mga Banda sa Aurora (short, SABA) a group of almost all the
local amateur bands in Aurora founded to cash in on their newfound "popularity"
and thereby turning them into pros that would make Boyboy proud. The Seaoil platform on
the other hand was turned into a Cocohut disco sampler when their female band invaded it
for a night. They were accompanied by bands from Maria, the ones who did not join SABA.
Aside from the bands, the Suman Festival continued through the night with some of the
booths staying open with their decorative lights and suman leftovers. I did not bother
with the Seaoil stage and instead holed in beside the stage of the SABA thingy. The party
was witnessed mostly by the band members and their friends and some people who were
stranded or lost their way. Four people fell in the drainage before the gig ended. Some
bands did well, some are better seen in pictures than heard. Around midnight nature
intervened and decided to close the show by pouring in some rains. Bad luck for the band
Gonorrhea from Ditumabo, fronted by Badol who is getting much rave for carrying the punk
banner in Aurora and for recycling some of the 70s punk antics like wearing a wedding gown
onstage. They renamed themselves The Suman Festival for the night but managed only a five
minute sound check before being booted out by force majeur.
