CHRISTMAS
Background White- Cut out a snowman from poster board. Add real scarf for neck. Put twigs for arms and tape real peppermints all over the board. Let the kids have them to take home last day of school before christmas.
Background Red- Lay out on art table and let kids glue red and green things. Sprinkle with glitter.
Variation- Make a gold and silver board! My kids tore up strips of left over silver and gold foil christmas paper. Glue these and add silver and gold glitter.

CIRCLE TIME
You must get a copy of Jingle Bugs.
It's a pop-up with things like jingle bugs, cookie bugs etc...in it. It ends on the last page with music. Jiggle Bells!
And you must get a BIG BOOK of The Night Before Christmas.
Traditional books even using big words are a good foundation in learning.
Make Red or Green koolaid. Kids can do all of it!
Bring in a very small cedar tree planted in a can. Discuss evergreens and triangle shapes of some trees.
Show decorations, balls, reindeer, Santa etc...Talk about what we use them for.
Another great BIG BOOK is Where's Santa. Very busy and promotes lots of talk.
Make a flannel board story about a cat that belongs to a girl named Mary. I never name the baby at the end of the story. My last words are "and all the other animals knew a special baby had been born." The kids all yell. "Baby Jesus!" You can tell the real Christmas story this way, side stepping all those rules of no religion in school. After all, the cat told the story. :}
