ST. PATRICK'S DAY
Background Green- Have children trace circles on yellow paper. Cut out (help those who need it) and tape to the board. Add a precut picture of a big pot tipped over. Talk about a pot of gold spilling.
Background Yellow- Lay out on art table and have kids glue on Green and White things. Ex: Yarn, rubberbands, pieces of material, Green styrofoam packing material, etc...Sprinkle with glitter.

SCIENCE TABLE
Use Green and White color cans. Fill with small Green and White things.
Add a real Shamrock plant!
Put Green celery in water and add Green food color. Leaves will turn dark Green.
Let children mix Blue and Yellow food color to water.
Add a book of animals we see in Ireland.
Put up a map and outline Ireland.
Melt Green ice cubes and chart how long it takes.
Color small bags Green with markers and take a walk collecting Green things. Add to table.
Hang a prism in the window and discuss Rainbow colors it makes on the wall.
Add a bowl of real coins and a scale to weigh them.
Add a flashlight with larger prisms.

ART/FINE MOTOR
Make Green Playdough. Add little people figures to make Leprechaun tracks.
Finger paint with Blue and Yellow tempra and mixing gel.
Make a Green collage using any Green materials such as paper bits, yarn, string, Green pom poms, etc...
Have children trace three circles, cut out and glue to paper. Make the circles touch forming a shamrock.
Cut Green things out of magazines. Fold Green paper for a pocket holder.
Easel paint with Blue and Yellow.
Make a rainbow wall hanging. Trace a rainbow on a large piece of paper and have children fill in the spaces with rainbow colored tissue paper.
Have children cut long strips of Green paper and hang from the ceilings.
Make Green shamrocks using pipe cleaners.
Make Shamrock cookies. Use any cookie recipe. Let children cut with round cookie cutters and frost with Green frosting (use food color) when cool. ![]()

Read Sheila MacGill-Callahan's The Last Snake In Ireland.
A wonderful tale of St. Patrick getting rid of the last pesky snake in Ireland!
And Irish Fairy Tales and Legends.
You can use this book for a circle time or quiet time stories.
Make Green limeaid koolaid. Kids can do all of it!
Cut up a lemon and a lime. Taste and compare. Talk about the different colors, taste sensations such as sharp, bitter, sweet, sour, etc...
Tell a story of little people who live in Ireland and bring Good Luck.
Compare short and tall using pictures such as "Mother/Baby", "Tree/Flower", etc...
Discuss Rainbows using prisms. Also you can use one of the new small lazer beams so many children have now. Shine it through a glass.
Make Green Jello Jigglers.
