WELCOME -- to Girl Scout Troop 2616's Photo Galleries.
We'd like to show other Girl Scouts and Girl Guides some of the interesting things we do in scouting.
In September of 1999 we all met at Edwin Warner Park and had our Girl Scout Camporee 1999. We made candles, had our flag ceremony, learned about outdoor cooking and hiked in the woods. We had planned our Camporee 1999 for spring of this year, but a tornado tore up Girl Scout Camp Sycamore this past spring. We hope everything will be rebuilt by Camporee 2000, scheduled for May 2000.The 1999 Camporee pics are not uploaded yet, sorry!
On November 11, 1999 we participated in Nashville's Veterans Day Parade. We all wore our uniforms and marched in the parade. The Veterans Day pics are not uploaded yet, sorry!
On December 16, 1999 we had our Holiday Party and Investiture Ceremony. We all wore our uniforms and lit ceremonial candles, then got our pins.
For our January 20th, 2000 meeting, we worked on making tissue paper flowers as part of the Art Dabbler badge. It was fun to make the flowers and they all came out so colorful and pretty.
For our February 10th meeting, we made magnets from photographs and drawings. We also planned our upcoming cookie booth sales.
For our February 18th, 2000 meeting, we discussed our upcoming Thinking Day project. We are doing our project on Japan. Shelby brought in a book with lots of pics and information on Japan. Kristen brought in a Japanese Paper Lantern to share with us. Mrs. Sandy brought in a book with lots of information about Japan, too. We learned a few Japanese phrases too, like how to say Thank You and Hello. After our Thinking Day discussion, we sang songs, some in rounds. It is fun to sing in rounds although sometimes it can be hard to keep up with your part with so many voices singing at the same time. It was funny when we messed up, though.
Saturday, February 19th, 2000 we had our second cookie sales booth. We met in front of the Walmart store at 10 am, and by 12:30 had sold all of our cookies. It was pretty cold and windy, too, so we were glad that they sold out so quickly.
At our February 24th, 2000 meeting we discussed our Thinking Day project again. We discussed our countries location and looked at some maps. Then we made origami, Ms. Sandy had brought some origami paper and instructions. We tried to make little dogs, then we all made origami airplanes. We had a distance contest for our planes.
We also had some other scouts come in wearing uniforms from the past. They were posing for a newspaper photograph. Check our our pics of the older uniforms.
Saturday, February 26th, 2000 we met at the church and had our Thinking Day Activities. There were booths representing different countries, pinning ceremonies, songs and our flag ceremony. Check out our photo gallery from Thinking Day, and read more about our activities as well.
For our March 9th, 2000 meeting, we talked about our upcoming service project. We are going to cook and serve a meal for the Room at the Inn program on Saturday, March 18th. We also talked about the Girl Scout Birthday Party coming up this Saturday. Then we wrote cards and letters to our friend Ashley, who used to be in our troop. She moved to Ohio last December.
On March 18th, 2000 we did our service project for Room at the Inn. Our troop met at our church, then all cooked and served dinner to a group of men. We set the tables, cooked the meal, served it, then cleaned up all the mess. We had hamburgers, tater tots, salad, broccoli and cheese and two different cakes. It was fun doing something nice for the men. They seemed to really like our cooking too.
We finally got to go to Belle Meade Mansion for our Victorian Day Craft Trip. It had been scheduled twice already, but both times it was cancelled for snow. The tour was really interesting, the house is soooo big!!! We got to make several different Victorian era craft items. When we were done, we all went to the gift shop and got a couple souvenirs.
At our May 11th meeting we talked more about Camporee. It is this weekend. We get to spend three days at Girl Scout Camp Sycamore. We talked about what we need to bring then we made some swaps for camporee. We are all excited about it.
We went to Camporee at Camp Sycamore over the weekend of May 12th, 13th and 14th. We had lots of fun, made lots of crafts, mothers day gifts, played on the swinging bridge, had a flag retirement ceremony, tie tyed our tshirts, made s'mores, had a bridging ceremony and much more. There were a lot of other troops there, from Daisies all the way to Seniors. Check out our new website with over 200 Camporee 2000 pics and stories.
Our last meeting of this year was held May 18th at our church. We all wore the tie dyed t shirts that we made during Camporee 2000. They really turned out nice. We talked a little about what we plan to do over the summer. We will have one get together over the summer to get our badges and visit with each other.
Shelby and I visited the Cumberland Valley Girl Scout Council on July 7th, 2000. We went to drop off some forms for Camp Sycamore. Check out the pics of the beautiful office building they have.
Please sign our guestbook and let us know where you are from. We love hearing from other Girl Scouts. You can read the messages already left for us by clicking here.
