Flags and other Identifiers
It has been asserted that the identifying symbols of the Steppes nomads and related peoples amounted essentially to "dead things on sticks". This assertion is untrue. Horse tails on poles were one identifier, but one of a number of items including such items as banners, pole-top finials, and belt decorations.
I am by no means an expert in the field of Heraldry (identifiers). I am putting forward the following information as a scratch pad of materials I have found in my cursory and fragmented research on the subject.
I urge all who can contribute to write with their own information.
