Location Olen-Kolodez, Don river, Voronezh region Culture Golden Horde noble Dating Late 13th-early 14th centuries Construction notes An iron conical helm (see illustration). The conical top and bottom cylinder are welded together; there is a small brim in the front. The top has a hole 4 mm in diameter for attaching a feather plume (feather imprints were found on the back of the helmet). An aventail no more then 20 cm long was attached to the sides and back of the helmet by hanging it on an iron rod 2 mm in diameter, which was attached to the base of the helmet by 8 rivets with round heads. Efimov posits that the aventail was buckled in front with an iron buckle that did not survive. Height: 25.5 cm Diameter: 20.8 cm Archaeological details Dig conducted in 1996 (by Efimov??). Mound # 7.
