When Roses Grow Black Chapter 6 I awoke with a jerk and looked around in a state of panic and confusion. I was sweating and breathing heavily. That dream was too real to be something out of my imagination. My enemy's eyes. Those eyes...I had seen them somewhere before. Where? I then really looked around me. I was In the pick-up truck on the side of the rode. The woman was no where to be seen and I was completely clueless as to where I was. 'I wonder what happened? How long was I asleep? Where are we? Where's that lady?' I thought to myself as I watched the cars on the freeway zoom by. Dawns early light was just touching the sky in the east. The midnight blue blanket fled along with the stars and the moon from the purple and pinks that started out every day. It was now light out but the cars kept their headlights on for safety until the sun was actually in the sky. The truck as covered in dew from the day beginning to become warmer. Having just woken up, my mind felt like a mix of jello and pudding. I couldn't for the life of me think straight after having that dream. The man's blue eyes still haunted my mind and the name I had called out repeated itself over and over. Not having any better idea, I crawled out of the truck with my bag in hand. What was I to do now? There I was, a 15 year old girl running away from home by hitch-hiking. Then, while I'm asleep, the driver disappears and I'm abandoned on the side of a freeway in who knows where, but probably not my original state. I let out a long frustrated sigh. I no longer knew I was safe because I was sure I wasn't. I had this creepy feeling the driver didn't just disappear for no reason. Call it intuition, but I thought something was wrong. Far in the distance, I heard a lone gunshot go off. My heart jumped in to my throat, and that was all I needed to confirm my feeling to run. I threw my bag over my shoulders and ran as fast as I could along side the freeway. Half of me prayed to God I wouldn't be run over, and the other half prayed not to be shot.Next: Chapter 7 |
