Protective measures
I told you I didn't think I'd let you back in
You don't even let yourself feel our love
I let that fear go
I'd let you back in with a single breath

Surrounded keepsake treasures
Residual hurt
Made doubts unearth
Careless words fell out of my lips
Now that's what you hear when your heart dips
It keeps you at bay
It forces you to stay away
That if you left me, my heart may not win
Words I'd long forgotten, you now recall
Memories form an invisible wall
"What's the point when she said the above?"
Please don't hold me to words said long ago
When people change, when their hearts grow
Let me show you that what I said was an unknown lie
What you're holding onto died
The day you proposed
I made an eternal choice
To follow my heart's voice
Never again would those words be true
Even if you left, I said "yes"
And I knew my heart would always come back to you
No one but us and God knows our love's depths
So please don't hide from me because of echoes in your ears
I replaced them along the way with commitment, hope and a love that refuses to disappear.
