Homesick

I can’t help but long for her hand
The simple entwining with mine
The gentle kiss as she raises it to her lips
The way my heart sighs

I can’t control the desire to rest my head
The comfort of her arms is unmatched
The security of her hold – a wave of warmth
All I want is that shoulder within reach

She may be unaware of how my heart stirs
It’s restless and knows that it’s purely hers
And when the night falls and I’m counting sheep
My heart is homesick until I fall asleep

It’s the simple things that I’ve come to miss
The way her eyes twinkle after she’s been kissed
The excitement of a new toy in her hands
The way I babble about nothing and she understands

I can’t begin to describe just what she does to me
She’s been away for so long and yet my soul guarantees
That she’s the one who will convince my heart to skip a beat
Don’t you know loving her is so sweet

She may be so unaware of how my heart stirs
It’s content in simply knowing that it’s purely hers
And when the night falls and I’m counting sheep
She may not know this is her moment to keep
As I slide into slumber and make my first leap
It’s into her arms that I fall asleep.
