I'm Taking It Back

Today was the last day
That you’ll make me feel small
Today was my last beating

And I can’t give up all the good I’ve done from the very start

So I’m taking back
The power I gave to you
I tell you I don’t lack
A single thing that you do
And I hope you know I won’t subject
Myself to anymore of this mess
It’s time you give a little respect to me
It’s this I confess.

Tomorrow you’ll look at me
And you’ll see a woman beneath my words
Tomorrow you’ll understand my truth
And my reasons won’t seem so absurd
‘Cause my esteem can be easily chipped away
I hear what you say, I take it in, and it carries into the next day

That’s why I’m taking back
The power I gave to you
I tell you I don’t lack
All the things that you do
And ’m not trying to reject
Or make you feel any less
But it’s time that you reflect on why
This I can’t suppress

I’m standing up for myself right here, right now
