My Heart's Score

You know it beats
Behind soul’s breast
You know it races
When I try to rest

If there’s one thing that cannot lie
In the midst of pretending to be tough
If there’s one thing I cannot control
In the quiet comfort of your arms
It’s the pounding your ear can’t ignore
It’s the urgency that my heart scores
It’s the music
The rhythm
That cries for more

You know it sighs
When it surrenders to you
You know it whispers
In a language only taught to you

If there’s one thing that reveals truth
Inbetween the distance and the closeness
If there’s one thing that takes a life of its own
When you pull me in without apology
It’s the steady pulse that lingers here
It’s the way it calms once it knows you’re near
It’s the symphony
The lone voice
That sings so clear, so sincere

It’s right here, right here
I couldn’t speak any words more true
I don’t need to speak
When it’s right here, right here
Wishing you’d simply hear
When I’m right here, right here
Just wanting to be.
