Stay

"Stay," you whisper to me
"Stay," you softly plead
Oh how I long to answer you
And forget the promises I'm held to

Who cares if work misses me
Who cares if my parents aren't too happy
Who cares if I don't stick to the course
I could think of so much worse

"Stay" rings in my head
"Stay" as "hurry" and "run" are said
I pick up the pace but then I slow down
Would it really be that bad if I'm never found?

"Stay" as I go through the lines
"Stay" – I know I'm falling behind
Responsibility wishing the plane's still there
Love's urgency hoping I'll have a few more days to spare

"Stay" beckons me as I reach the gate
"Stay" pleads with the ladies that I'm too late
But on I go, as my heart is left on the floor
It lays there wishing and praying I could answer "stay" once more.
