The Test of Yesterday

It's a familiar feeling
It's all around me, ever encompassing
That tickling underneath my tongue
No matter if the words may be wrong

It's the irking that wanders my mind
Traveling through doors stuck on rewind
Flicker, flicker goes by every single picture
The emotions from then and now all a mixture

But yesterday can't match up to today
My heart will not be a game for fear to play
Your heart will not be a testing ground for last year's doubt
For our love has already won out

It may be second nature to fall into this
But every heartache could never compare to your kiss
I won't let fright unlock the places God put away
The only key out of my reach is right where it's always stayed

I lived a life of hope and faith, waiting for you
I may have lost my way, gone just a bit askew
But that faith is in my every breath – you're my air
And I would suffocate if not for this life we share

Yesterday can't match up to our today
My heart is steadfast and beating for you in every way
Your heart is matching my rhythm, devoid of any kind of doubt
It's this song that's our salvation
It's our love that will continue to win out.
