Unheard Promises

I hear the whistle
A sweet, soft melody on the breeze
One that beckons me
Calls for me to come and see
To feel all I can possibly handle
And I’m but a slave to its soothing rhythm...
So I follow.

I hear the whisper
Of a thousand wants wanting to be realized
Waiting for an answer
One as filled with need as its own
And there’s no question
There’s no need for it to wait-
So I whisper affectionately in her ear.

I hear the sigh
The breathy understanding of love so deep
A soft, tender caress on my skin
Chilling me
Warming me
Leaving a mark of its affection
Till it hears my own sigh of surrender.

I hear the silence
Of a moment not in need of rhyme or reason
Only one in need of a stillness
A longing to just be
Wrapped up in the comfort of her arms
In the assurance of her devotion.
To be
Aware of no one but us
Safe and sound
In the excitement of our love.
