We didn't fish for long at camp Rock. The swell was really big so there weren't many bites. Our plan had been to go to Garth's Rock but it was too dangerous to cross. So the only pictures I have at Camp Rock are of the Korean Star.
On the 20th of May 1988The Korean Star was in anchorage waiting to be loaded at the Dampier Salt mine port when Cyclone Herbie hit causing it to run aground. The ship broke into two and 600 tonnes of fuel were lost into the sea. Today all that is left it a pile of rusted, twisted metal on the rocks and another section, closer to Garth's, where the bow sticks out of the water. It felt really eerie walking past the wreck. I guess because it's just so out of place there. The worst part is that it's rusting and the water runs orange off of the rocks into the sea. |
