Book Order Form
The students of LaSalle Academy are avid readers and they are constantly recommending books for the library to order. I get several request a week that are stored in folders on post-it notes, scrap papers, and amazon.com pages. I decided I could organize the information easier if I had a form that all the students could fill out. I wanted the form to be interactive so that the students could type their information on the web page (much easier then trying to read their handwriting), however I did not want them to submit the request to my school e-mail. I decided to provide instruction for the students to print the form off after typing in the information and to turn the form in at the library desk. The forms are then kept in a 3-ring binder. This form can be accessed through the Read page by clicking on the Book Order Form.
Library Blog
Our school web site can only be updated every two weeks as it must go through our very busy tech department. I wanted someway that I could update student and teacher information daily if need be. I wanted a place that I could let students know about new book arrivals, upcoming events, contests and new links. I decided a blog site would be my best option but because we are dealing with kids and since this is a school site I had to be able to censor the information that the school community could access. I set the blog up so that students could not respond on the blog itself. They will only be able to see my news updates. I titled the new feature Library News. The site can be accessed through the Library News navigation button on any of the screens. I set my blog up through www.blogger.com
Harris Burdick Mystery Writing
Our sixth grade English students have been working on mysteries for the last several weeks. They were asked to choose one of the photos from The Mysteries of Harris Burdick, by Chris Van Allsburg and write a story to go with the photo. Several of the students shared their stories with me because they were proud of their work. I decided to use a library web page to showcase the stories. The five students I chose to feature were thrilled that their work would be on the web site. I decided to include information about the project as well as showcasing all the illustrations featured in the book. I used a flip book slide show that I found on the Dynamic HTML web site to display the images. Each page of the slide show links to a larger image as well as the sentence that appears on that page in the book. For now, I have enlarged five illustrations and each illustration links to the students story. Eventually I would like to use the flip book slide show to hold the links to all the stories created by the students. I linked this page from the Imagine web page under class project: Mysteries of Harris Burdick
