The ancestry of
John William Brown
My Brown ancestry has been flung wide open thanks to some well informed distant cousins. I haven't yet input the data they have so graciously given me, but I do have John's history back a few more generations.

John William Brown was the oldest son of Robert Brown and Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Brown. (Yes, her maiden name and first married name were BOTH Brown!) Robert Brown's parentage is unknown at this time. Mollie Brown's father was Alexander Brown, son of Bird Brown and Henrietta Brown. Alexander was born 1824 in Virginia. Mollie's mother was Elizabeth Orrender, born 1818 in Virginia.

John Brown's father died sometime after the birth of John's brother Thomas Brown. John's mother then remarried to Nathaniel Cincinnati "C.C." Gibson in 1875 in Kentucky. They moved to Christian County, Missouri around 1890 where C.C. passed away in 1896. Mollie then married Stephen F. Clayton and they moved to Montgomery County, Kansas in 1900 where she lived until her death in 1925. Mollie is buried next to C.C. Gibson in Sparta IOOF Cemetery, Christian County, Missouri.

John Brown and his children are pictured here a few years after the death of his beloved wife, Pulaski. John is sitting in the center, of course, with little Bessie on his lap. The boy on the right is Ora. The girls standing are (l to r)  Burcha, Elsie, Iva (my ggrandmother), Bertha, and Mellie. Photo is not dated, but would have been between June 1912 and Nov 1914.
