Unlike so many sites out there, I'm not going to just copy somebody else's walkthrough and paste it in here; I've written my own. Of course it takes a while longer, but that's the price to pay for a walkthrough that you can actually understand what all the items are (and not just a translation). With that said, I do require my permission if anyone is to use this walkthrough on their site. E-mail me at kingbahamut0@yahoo.com for any questions or if you'd like to use this walkthrough. As for the walkthrough itself, I will avoid talking about most plot sequences as it will take away from the experience of the game if you read it here first.
1. Icicle Inn
6. Sweet Dreams
You'll begin the second disk back in the Forgotten Capital and you'll see Sephiroth leave through a path that you couldn't take earlier. In the next screen, start by walking around the spiral staircase of what appears to be a rib cage and you should find Cid's Viper Halberd. Now head up the bones and you should find a cave entrance towards the top. Once in the cave, go to the second crevasse and climb to the top. Jump off to the left and go to the next crevasse. Climb up and you'll find a Bolt Armlet. Go across to the right and climb down to which you should find a Hypno Crown. Climb back up again until you reach a Megalixir. Make your way to the left and climb up to the top of the screen. Go left and you should see a long ladder leading down. Head down to find a Magic Plus materia. Go back up and to the right to find a cave to pass through. Get the Power Source before exiting and returning to the world map. Make your way around the mountains to find a small village known as Icicle Inn.
Start off by going and talking to the person in the far end of town. A couple guards and Elena will come and you have to try to dodge her when she tries to hit you. It doesn't matter if you dodge her or not though. Anyway, after that, go to the house just to the right of the entrance and you should see a boy and a cat in the back room of the house. Talk to the boy and he'll lend you his snowboard. Now for a little exploration--go to the second floor of the inn and you'll find an X-Potion in a window sill. Go to the house on the far right and in the back room you can find a Hero Drink and a Vaccine. There's also a map on the wall that you can take which can be of some help in the upcoming section. Before you leave town, you can go into the house on the left and find a Turbo Ether in the basement. On the main floor you can also watch some videos to give you some background info on Aeris and her parents. If you haven't already, buy some upgraded weapons and materia and head past the man in back to leave the town. You now get to go on a snowboarding track. There are four possible paths you can end up taking, and since I have only taken one path for the two times completing the game, I'll describe as best as I can the path when taking two lefts on the snowboard part.
If you took the two lefts while snowboarding (wasn't that fun?), you should end up in a small forest. You can also use that map you took in Icicle Inn to try and figure out where you are by pressing square. Start off by heading to the right. You should eventually make your way to a small lake shore with a Potion on the ice. Head towards the center of the lake and you'll come to a puzzle of getting across. Each time you go in one direction, the blocks of ice around it get inverted. Once you get across, you should find a Safety Bit. Leave and continue along the shore going up. There's not too much else of note here; just keep referring to your map and you should make it to the red check mark without any difficulty (lake cave, mountain cave, mountain crossroads, steaming lakes). But before you leave the area, make a stop at the steaming lakes. Touch the water to get revitalized; that'll come back into play later on. Ok, now you can leave. If you pass out, don't worry, you can come back here. You'll be in a large snowfield and it is pretty easy to get lost. Head north to find the shack. If you happened to pass out, you should already be there. If you didn't pass out, talk to the man and spend the night there.
Now you can either choose to go up and continue on or backtrack for a summon materia. If you backtrack, head down and you'll be back in the snowfield. Head south to return to the first area and go back to the steaming lakes. Find the water again to revitalize yourself and exit the area from the steaming lakes. Go north and you should see a cave entrance. There's a tent and an All materia next to it. Head east through some more snow to find another cave entrance with a lady standing near. Defeat her to obtain the Alexander summon. She shouldn't be a problem; just use fire. Make your way back to the snowfield and head north to get back to the old man's hut unless you pass out before then. Now head north and to the cliffs. Here you have to keep your body temperature above 27º or you'll pass out. So make sure you keep tapping the square button to keep your temperature close to 38º. And you can only do that while standing still on a ledge, so keep that in mind.
Look for the red flags (shows where you can climb the walls) and make your way up to the first cave. Go through the arches and into the next area of the cave. Go up the stairs and take the bottom exit. Go as far to the right as you can to find the second (and last) Ribbon in the game. Go back to the main room and head up and left. Cross the bridge and look for the boulder at the top. Push the boulder down to clear the path below. Now head back to the room with the ribbon and you can find a Javelin. Go back now and take the path you just opened. Go through a couple screens and you'll be back out on the cliffs again. You'll be prompted twice on which direction to take while climbing, so go up, then right. You'll get to a ledge with two paths (one is unmarked). Take the marked path to continue and find the next cave. You can save here and grab an Elixir on the bottom of the screen. Go through the exit at the top right and go around the bend to re-enter the cave. Grab the Fire Armlet just inside. Now you have to fight four icicles to fill up the area below. They're really no problem but don't jump down after the last fight. Go to the left to find a Megalixir. Now you can jump down. Grab the Speed Source and head on out. Just outside you should also find an Enhance Sword. Follow the path and you should make it back to the cliffs again. This time, take the right, left, and up options to make it to the third cave entrance. Use the pool and the save point to gain some experience from the enemies if you'd like (and win some great items too). Continue up the hall to reach your first boss of disk 2.
=========================================
BOSS: Schizo - 18000 HP each head - weakness: see below
=========================================
As you should be accustomed to by now, begin by hasting yourself and also MBarrier yourself. Also make sure you have the bolt, fire, and aurora armlets equipped before battle. For basic magic spells, use ice on the fire head and fire on the ice head. Don't mix them up or you'll just heal them. Also use some bigger spells and summons, but don't use Poison (no damage) or Kjata (heals both). Keep healed as always and you'll win a Dragon Fang when you win.
=========================================
After the battle, make your way outside and climb up the icy wall. Now you get to begin your descent into the crater. If Tifa's not already in your party, you'll have to put her in now. On the screen with the save point, go down to find the Neo Bahamut summon. Now head back up to the save point to save if you'd like and continue to the left. After a cut scene with some ShinRa executives, you'll reach the first of three barriers in the whirlwind maze. First talk to the two men to get a Hi-Potion and Ether. To get across the barrier, get as close to it as you can and run across when the barrier is at its faintest. If you get hit, you'll be sent back and have to face a Wind Wing. Grab a Kaiser Knuckle in the next screen and make your way up to the second barrier, ignoring everybody attending the Reunion. This barrier is almost the same except there is a constant pulse of electricity moving around it, so now you'll have to run when both are clear. On the other side, Sephiroth will meet up with you and summon Jenova to fight again.
===================================
BOSS: Jenova*Death - 25000 HP - weakness: none
===================================
Jenova's attacks are mainly fire-based, so have a fire armlet on a character. You can stick away from magic, as Jenova will counter. But if you have the character with the fire armlet cast magic, she'll counter and end up healing that character. This shouldn't be a difficult fight as physical attacks should be more than enough. You'll get a Reflect Ring for your victory.
===================================
You'll also get the black materia back from Sephiroth when you defeat Jenova again. Cloud will give it to someone else and then you continue on into the crater. In the next screen you'll find an MP Turbo materia, but it's pretty much useless. There's also a save point and Poison Ring before reaching the final barrier. The barrier this time is the same as the second plus has some short bursts of lightning. So make sure all three are clear before proceeding. After the barrier, follow the path until you get into another flashback of Nibelheim. There's a bunch of storyline stuff here that gives you info on who Cloud really is (or should I say isn't?), but I'll leave that for you to see. After the rather long sequence, your party will escape on the Highwind.
You'll eventually find yourself controlling Tifa with Barret nearby. Talk to him and some ShinRa guys will come in and take you away to be executed. There's a whole bunch of plot stuff here, mainly involving the mako cannon firing on the the approaching weapon and you trying to rescue Tifa and escape. When the gas starts pouring into the room with Tifa, talk to Cait Sith and leave the room. Head right, outside, and down the road. Run to the airport and take the lift up to the platform with the Highwind on it. Now you're back to controlling Tifa in her attempt to break free. If you have troubles trying to get the key and using it, press X, X, T, X+T, T+O, O. You can now shut off the gas and head for the door. But before that, the Weapon will create your exit for you. Leave down the outside of Junon and you'll make your way to the edge of the cannon. You'll get into a slap fest with Scarlet before Barret comes to rescue you in the Highwind. Make your way to the cockpit to find Cid, and you can go to another room to assemble your party with Tifa now at the head. Return to the cockpit and talk to the pilot to take control of the Highwind. You now can complete the chocobo breeding quest (and find the tons of goodies as a result of it (see hints and materia for locations and more info) as well as buy better weapons from some shops around the world.
You're first point of business is to find out what happened to Cloud. Go to the town of Mideel on the southern continent (surrounded by a forest). Do your shopping and then go to the weapon shop and try to open the door in back. Now go to the right of the door that leads to where you can buy accessories and you should hear a creak in the floorboards. Pick up the key there and head back to the door in the weapon shop. Be honest in answering the shopkeeper and you'll receive the Curse Ring. You may have also noticed a kid and a white chocobo in every store. Feed the choco a Mimett Green and scratch behind its ear to get the Contain materia. Now go to the back end of town to discover that Cloud has become nothing but a vegetable. Tifa will now stay behind and Cid will become the new leader. You'll also find out that ShinRa is trying to get the four huge materia, and so your next quest is to get them all before they do.
There is a choice between the first two huge materia you can get, but we'll start off with the one near North Corel. Head there and take the train tracks in the back of town all the way to the Corel reactor. You'll fight a couple guards and a train will head out of the reactor. You'll get on another train and have to catch up to it. Now for the fun part... You'll have to alternate pressing up and triangle as fast as you can to catch up to the train. When you jump across to the other train, you'll have to jump across the cars to get to the front. And on each car is a progressively tougher battle. You have a ten minute time limit so make sure you hurry through the battles. When you reach the head of the train, you'll now have to slow it down before it crashes into North Corel. Once Cid gets control of the locomotive, you have a couple options of pressing buttons to stop it. Up + Triangle, down + X, down + X; down + X, down + X, down + X; and up + Triangle, down + X, down + Triangle should all work. If you manage to stop the train, you'll get the huge materia plus the Ultima materia. If the train crashes, you'll get neither, but you'll still be able to buy Ultima for 50,000 gil from a little kid. If for some reason you can't even make it to the ShinRa train, you won't even be able to buy the Ultima. You can also get Barret's level 4 limit break from the house just below the inn by talking to the lady in the hat.
Your next stop for the huge materia quest is Fort Condor. Talk to the monks there and agree to help them. Head to the top of the tower and talk to the man to learn about the battle you're about to take part in. The battle is pretty easy and fun for that matter. You should also make sure you have a decent amount of money before starting the battle. Basically all you have to do is watch which enemies come up the hill and set your allies that are strongest against that type to attack them (attacker vs. beast, etc.). There are two ways to win; either you clear off all the enemies on the mountainside or you wait for the commander to come up and gang up on him and defeat him. Once you do win, you'll receive the huge materia. After the battle, you'll also be able to go through the door that was locked before the battle. Go in there to get on top of the tower and you'll find the Phoenix materia. If you lose, which you really shouldn't, you'll never be able to return to Fort Condor or get the huge or Phoenix materia.
You can now take a break from the huge materia quest and head back to Mideel to check on how Cloud and Tifa are doing. Talk to Tifa and there will be an earthquake to cause a huge mass of confusion in the town. When you go outside, you'll get attacked by weapon no. 2.
=====================================
BOSS: Ultimate Weapon - 10000 HP - weakness: none
=====================================
It is entirely possible to have the Knights of the Round summon by now, so from now til the end, you can just use that for some quick boss battles. Otherwise, this boss isn't much of a threat. Haste and keep healed and throw your strongest attacks and you'll win easily. And the chicken runs away!!!
=====================================
There's now a quite long interactive scene inside Cloud's memory and should answer (and create more) questions you have. Now back to the huge materia!
With Cloud back in your party, head back to Junon. Head to the middle of town right underneath where the cannon is. There's a little passage leading down and to the left where a commander is drilling a group of soldiers. Follow this passage until you reach an elevator where a couple soldiers will attack you. The path is pretty straight forward and you really can't get lost. Make your way down to an underwater tunnel with the mako reactor in front of you. Press the red button and you'll enter a large submarine dock. Fight through the mess of soldiers and you'll eventually see the huge materia being loaded into one of the submarines. Reno then shows up with a little treat for you.
=====================================================
BOSS: Carry Armor - 24000 HP; Arms - 10000 HP each - weakness: lightning
=====================================================
Start off with haste and regen on everyone. This boss can imprison two characters with its arms, so make sure you take them out first. Use physical attacks with your stronger characters and lit3 and Ramuh with your weak ones. If you get caught, any damage you put on the boss will give a third of it to that trapped ally. You can also attach an elemental materia with lit on your weapon for an added attack. Make sure to re-haste and re-regen yourself when they run out as they will give you the advantage to win this battle. You'll receive God's Hand when you do.
=====================================================
Now head left to find a Battle Trumpet. Go back around to the gray sub and open the chest near the stairs to find a Scimitar. To the left of that is the Leviathan Scales, which you can use on the fire pits in the mountain behind Wutai. Anyway, make your way through the soldiers and into the bridge of the submarine. Once there, you can choose to fight the group of three or let them live. If you fight, you can steal a Shinra Alpha armor off the commander. After that encounter, go to the captain's seat and learn about controlling the sub before you shoot off. Controlling the sub takes a little getting used to, but you'll have ten minutes to hunt down and destroy the red sub. There are also ten yellow subs floating around which can be a nuisance, so shoot them down as well. Beware of the warning messages so you can avoid getting blown out of the water yourself. Destroy the red sub to end the game. You should now take the time to do a little underwater exploring before getting the last huge materia. First go underwater in your sub and find the sunken red sub to get the huge materia. If you lost the sub game, you'll have to go back to the submarine dock in Junon to get another sub. Anyway, avoid the Emerald Weapon at all costs! This is really not the time to try and fight him. While you're underwater, head west and there should be a little bay in the Gold Saucer area. In the bay is a sunken airplane, the "Gelnika", in which you should explore.
The enemies in the plane are pretty tough so you may want to run if you are at low levels. But this is a good place to level up as the enemies give a lot of experience and money. Begin by heading down the ladder and to the left. There's a save point right there along with the chest containing the Heaven's Cloud. Go in the door on top and go right along the walkway to the green chest containing an Escort Guard. Head to the lower level of the floor and the Conformer is hidden in another chest on the upper-left hand side of the room. In the top right corner is a Double Cut materia. This is a very nice materia and you'll want to upgrade it to level 2 asap so make sure you equip it right away. Trust me it comes in handy later on. Return to the top floor and go up and right to find a Megalixir. Return to the main room and this time head to the left. You'll find some Turks there so get ready for a fight.
=========================================
BOSS: Reno - 15000 HP; Rude - 20000 HP - weakness: none
=========================================
Attack Reno first because once he is defeated, Rude will just stand around doing nothing until you defeat him. Start off with hasting and regenerating everyone as usual and try to set it up so that someone with a mime materia follows the character with the double cut in turn. Also make these two characters your strongest. So do the double cut and then mime it so two characters will get two hits each. Then use the third character for strong magic or physical attacks. Win and you'll get an Elixir.
=========================================
Now you can head through the northern door and grab a Megalixir and Spirit Lance along the walkway. Head down to the lower floor of the room and you'll find two more chests: the Outsider and Highwind (Cid's level 4 limit break manual). There's also a red materia lying near the helicopter so make sure you grab that too. It's the Hades materia which is an essential part in facing the Ruby Weapon. Now you can leave the plane. But before you head off to the next part of the game, you might as well get an item you'll need later. While in the sub, head to the northern continent. Just off the southeastern tip are three islands. Around that area is a tunnel underwater leading to a spiked object at the end. This is the Key of the Ancients, which Bugenhagen will ask for in a little while. You can also head to the Dachao statue behind Wutai and use the Leviathan Scales to get the Oritsuru and Steal as Well materia. Now for the final huge materia!
Part 8: One small step for man...
Return to Rocket Town and go back to the actual rocket. Make your way through some more guards up the stairs of the rocket. Cid will stop by and insert himself into your party if he already isn't there. Then you'll get to face Rude and a couple of his cronies which can be considered a boss battle, but I'm not going to waste time on it. If you've made it this far, you shouldn't have the slightest problem. Head on into the rocket and face a couple more soldiers before going into the room at the top of the screen. There'll be a short scene and the rocket will take off for the meteor. Go right and climb the ladder to get into the room with the huge materia. Use the code Circle, Square, X, X to get the materia within the three minute time limit. Climb back down the ladder and walk by the tanks that will explode. Shera will stop by to save Cid and lead you to the escape pod. After a pretty cool FMV you'll be back in the Highwind.
Your next order of business is to take the huge materia you have to Bugenhagen in Cosmo Canyon. He'll keep the huge materia in the observatory so you don't have to carry them around anymore. He'll also ask you to take him to the City of the Ancients. You can fly the Highwind and land it just outside of the city so you won't have to go through all the snowfield stuff again. Take a left in the city and enter the large crystal room in the back of the city. There's a pedestal in the center of the room with the crystal on it and that's your destination. Bugenhagen will now ask for the Key of the Ancients, so if you got it before, you can simply give it to him. If not, refer to the end of Part 7 on where to find it. A waterfall will appear when Bugenhagen uses the key; step closer to see some images of Aeris. When he's done talking, leave the Forgotten Capital and you'll find out the cannon in Junon has been moved to Midgar and the Diamond Weapon is trying to make an attack on Midgar. Fly the highwind to the shore outside Midgar and wait for the weapon to reach land. Touch him to enter battle to prevent him from reaching Midgar.
========================================
BOSS: Diamond Weapon - 50000 HP - weakness: Lightning
========================================
Haste and Regen everyone, and also cast Barrier (or Wall if you have it) on everyone. Physical attacks will do almost nothing on it, so pound it with everything you have, especially lit3, ultima, tornado, and break. Its attacks are pretty weak and won't seem to do anything with regen on your characters, but watch out when it starts to countdown for its Diamond Flash attack. This attack can also silence your characters, so make sure you have ribbons equipped and a means to "un-silence" your other character. Once in a while the weapon will lose some physical defense when it uses its Diamond Flash so use your double (or 4x) cut and limit breaks to inflict lots of damage. You can also steal a Rising Sun from him.
========================================
The new Midgar cannon will now obliterate the Diamond Weapon along with the barrier on the Northern Crater. Before you head into Midgar, go to the lake near Junon and you should find the Ultimate Weapon hovering over it. Fly into it to start a battle. He's not very difficult but runs away a lot. When he does you have to chase him around and keep ramming into him to fight again. After maybe 4 or 5 battles, he should settle in a spot near Cosmo Canyon. Defeat him there and you'll receive Cloud's Ultimate Weapon. This weapon can attack for 9999 damage when Cloud's HP are near its max; give him the 4x cut command and he can hit for about 40000 HP damage every turn! Defeating the weapon also opens up the path to the Frog Forest (see the hints page for more info). Also, if you use Knights of the Round on the weapon the first time you face him, he should fly straight to Cosmo Canyon. So if you don't want to chase him around all day, you can do that to save some time. Ok, now go back to Midgar to stop that madman Hojo.
Take the Highwind just above Midgar and parachute into the city. Talk to your ally by the wooden panel to reveal a ladder leading down. Follow the path until you see two treasure chests, one with an Elixir and the other with a Megalixir. Go back to the ladder and take the stairs down to another ladder. Take that ladder down, and go left and up to get to yet another ladder. Climb it and you'll find an Aegis Bracelet. Head back right and you'll fall down to a walkway below you. Now go left and make your way up two ladders. Make your way to a slide and fall in it to a path below. Grab a Starlight Horn on the left and an Elixir on the right. Go down and hold right to get into the slide there (No. 42). Go left and up the ladder to find a Max Ray. Head back to the other room and go left to jump off the slide and onto the platform. Climb the ladder and go up the stairs on the left. Save if you'd like and crawl through the tunnel on the right side. Climb down and keep heading south to eventually find Power, Guard, Mind, and Magic Sources. Continue going down and you should get to the W-Item materia. Now backtrack all the way to the first room and head north to run into those pesky Turks again. If you did the Yuffie sidequest and saved Elena before, you can skip the battle, otherwise you're stuck fighting.
=====================================================
BOSS: Reno - 25000 HP; Rude - 28000 HP; Elena - 30000 HP - weakness: none
=====================================================
Haste, Wall, and Regen, and don't use lit on Elena, ice on Rude, or fire on Reno as those will heal them. Their attacks alone aren't very powerful, but with three of them there, it can be a real pain. So aim your attacks on one enemy until he/she is defeated and move to the next. It doesn't really matter who you start with, but Rude seems to be the strongest. You can also use the 4x cut/mime trick where you could now get 4 hits from all of your characters and with two mimes, all three can perform it (you'll have to have mastered one mime). Cloud's Ultimate Weapon is also a big help here. For magic, stick to big spells like ultima, tornado, etc. You'll get an Elixir if you win.
=====================================================
After the battle, head up and take a right at the fork in the road. Cid will show up if he's not in your party. Continue and take another right and a left to get to a dead end. There is a ladder on the left wall though that will lead to the ShinRa HQ. Head up the stairs and look for an accessories room towards the back of the hall. Inside are two chests containing a Master Fist and Pile Banger. You can also head up to the 64th floor to get the HP Shout, Cait Sith's ultimate weapon. You can also find a Grow Lance on the floor with the coupons and a Behemoth Horn on the long staircase between the first and 59th floors. Return to the underground and go south two rooms and take a left to get outside. Climb up the red bar and go north to reach the next battle.
===================================================
BOSS: Proud Clod - 60000 HP; Jamar Armor - 20000 HP - weakness: none
===================================================
Do the obvious, and begin attacking the Jamar Armor, which has the ability to jam your materia. After that take out the Proud Clod with heavy attacks and magic. Its attacks are pretty weak, it's biggest attack doing barely over 1000 HP to all allies. Regen will be more than enough for that. The 4x cut with Cloud's ultimate weapon could take care of this boss in two rounds. You'll get the Ragnarok for winning.
===================================================
Head up and you'll come across two chests containing an Elixir and a Mystile. Save if need be, and climb the ladders. It's probably a good idea to have Barret in your party at this point as a treasure chest will appear with his ultimate weapon, the Missing Score, inside. Keep climbing until you reach Hojo at the top of the tower. And what else is he going to do but attack you?
===================================================================
BOSS: Hojo - 13000 HP; Helletic Hojo - 26000 HP; Lifeform Hojo-Na - ????? HP - weakness: none
===================================================================
Before this battle, make sure your two ribbons are equipped and a poison ring or star pendant on the third. Haste, Regen, and Wall everyone and use them again when needed. In his first form, don't worry about the two monsters with Hojo; they can be regenerated, so concentrate on Hojo. Physical attacks are more than enough for the entirety of this battle. For his second form, he has two arms with him. Again, don't worry about them since they can be regenerated. Barrier or Wall will especially be helpful against the right arm. As for his final form, he's all by himself and is pretty easy as long as you keep everybody with regen on. You'll get a Power Source when he's dead.
===================================================================
After a short scene with Cloud and Tifa, you're off to disk 3!
