This is for Jack below. I've always heard that Kelly showed up for the second half at Wheelwright one night. Some say he'd been drinking and still made over 30 pts. Who knows the truth. Kelly himself, i notice, sometimes gives different answers to differe t interviewers. By-The-Way thanks for the kind words, and tell everyone about the site.

I've only read about Kelly but he must have been the best. Is it true that they had to get him out of jail to play an occational second half? Just wondering! Send any information about Kelly so I can tell my players at Allen Grade School. Thanks.....JG

I hate to say this, but the powers who be in the town of wayland have really let it go down the toilet. You listen to all the old timers and all they speak about is what a great town Wayland used to be, the operative word is USED to be. Back then there wa all sorts of activities to partake in: We had the best baseball field in the state, a movie theatre, and the big Fountain where everyone hung out at. All we have now is an old, decrepit field that is covered in weeds and the clinic, where all our youth g to smoke dope and drink beer because there isn't anything better to do. Don't live in denial, you all know it's true. Instead of wasting so much money on the historical building the town should have contributed some towards building a basketball park. Bu no, all the older population wanted the building to relive their past. Well when I'm old and gray what am I gonna remember about Wayland? Playing baseball in the sewer! Paying 36 dollars to play ball in the run down gym for 2 hours because the only goal n town is 11 feet high and on a gravel road? There has been a rumor that there was suppost to be a park in the works, but I'll probably be too old to play there by the time it's built (if ever). What Wayland needs is something to attract young people to m ve here, not something to cater to the old. That's all I have to say about that. Quothe the Raven...nevermore!

I never had the opportunity to see Coleman plat but have heard a lot of him from my brothers and dad. He was playing while I was still pretty young. I have been wondering thought in reading this web as to what ever happened to him after high school. I hav not seen much to see really where he went or what happened to him. Very good web page and an honor from what I have heard in the past very well deserved.

King Kelly is my Uncle, so I am of course very proud, but so too are most people from Kentucky. I travel the world and meet people everywhere who remember him well. A few years ago I was in Russia on a trip arranged by the U.S. Government. One of the 30 or so people in the group was from Kentucky, so naturally we talked about Kelly. One evening he called his wife, to his surprise he said "I was trying to tell her all about meeting the U.S. Ambassador, the Russian Prime Minister, touring the Kremlin and ll the things we did ... all she wanted to do was hear more about King Kelly!" Legends are great, especially when they are true!

I remember him very well and some of the games I wathed him play in. If you ever get up with him, hav him give me a call at the Times. Hey, you might want to change the yellow type or go to a black background. Have a great day! Thanks for visiting my church site. Ed Taylor
