Ogham of the Month - Gort

Ogham bar

Gort | Ivy (Hedra helix)

Month: September
Colour: Sky Blue
Animal: Boar
Bird: Swan
Class: Chieftan
Letter: G
Deities: Goibhniu (a Smith god of the Irish), Gwydion (the shoemaker, Welsh)
Occupations: Metal-work
Meaning: This is a determined plant. It will grow anywhere and in any direction and live for a very long time. These stubborn and tenacious energies are also present in this fidh (the proper term for a a letter of the Ogham, plural: fedha.) It can also be a sign of self-knowledge and transformation. In divination, it is a sign of change, perhaps in education or in business, and that it may be for the better, but you must decide wisely and think hard before choosing your next move(s).
Challenge: Do not be caught up in the process of transformation, as with any process it exists as a means to an end (and it’s the end you are seeking). Be wary of falling into patterns (the ivy grows in a spiral and as such, it offers regular chances to be sidetracked and lose focus—but also can stand for the spiral towards enlightenment) and ruts lest you lose sight of what you truly seek.
