American Robin

The American Robin is probably the most familiar bird in Canada.  Although some of them migrate from the southern USA to northern Canada, many are local migrants, hopping between mountain or forest and residential areas.  They can be seen in our region throughout the year.  They feed on berries and insects, and are often seen on lawns feeding on earthworms.  They start singing their simple, rhythmic songs in the pre-dawn hours during the mating season in the spring and early summer, and sometimes the song can be heard continuously all day long.  Two different calls are heard at the end of this track – an alarm call (vite! vite! vite!) and a scolding call.
