March... Aquamarine - The stone of courage, hope and victory.
I (Sarah) am a graduate of the University of Kentucky and teach
Home Economics at
Russell County High School and I am looking forward to retirement
in the next few
years. I enjoy working with my students, especially the Juniors
and Seniors. I have a
few hobbies; our shelties, cooking when in the mood, eating out,
crafts, playing games on
the computer, and outdoor activities. I hope, by the time I
retire, to have a well known
kennel, because I am looking forward to showing and raising
Shelties as my #1 hobby
and work.
Phillip also works at Russell County High School, he is a member
of the Support Staff,
he is the library assistant and lunchroom cashier. He is the
computer person in our
house, he prepared the web site after I got him started. His
hobbies are computer,
computer, computer, and did I mention computer. He does most of
the grooming on the
dogs. He likes to read, watch TV, take pictures and play with
the babies. We both enjoy
talking about and showing off our Shelties and seeing other Shelties.
As I said we got our first puppy in January 1979 and got his
female litter mate in
February, because the owners were going to have her done away
with if they didn't find
her a home. These babies named Andrea and Fifi lived to be
almost 17 years old. Both
had to be put to rest by our veterinarian. After Fifi was put to
rest I told my veterinarian
that I would never have to go through that kind of torture again
over a dog, because I
would never ever have another dog.
Four months later after much discussion, many phone calls, and
several miles, we got our
first sheltie baby. The big event took place on June 18, 1995 in
Winchester, KY. The
minute I saw her I fell in love with her, therefore she became
Sassy Sacha Mom's Girl,
"Sacha". On Monday Sacha made her first visit to our vet, the
vet looked at me with a
sheepish grin and said, " Sarah, do I detect crow feathers coming
out of your mouth?"
Well this is not the only time I have had to eat those words.
We have two other sheltie
babies also.
Sacha has had one litter of puppies, born Sept 29, 1996,
consisting of 2 males and one
female. We are looking forward to more grandpups in the near future.
Sacha was such an active little girl we felt she needed a
playmate and some day a
breeding partner, so off we go again. By now we had purchased
the book Sheltie Talk.
We read and learned more about the breed, so we could find that
"perfect" male to go
with Sacha. Great now we have found him, so we thought, white
factored, little shy,
natural tipped ears, laid back and he even enjoyed the ride home,
what more could we
ask for! Mr. Perfect, as we first referred to him that day on
our way home from Boston,
KY, was named Oby -Wan- Kenobi "Oby". That "perfect" little puppy
began to grow, he
grew and grew and grew and he finally stopped growing at
18 inches tall. Due to his
height and a genetic problem he had to be neutered ,oh well,
he
is a wonderful playmate
for Sacha and a perfect pet that now sleeps at the foot of our bed.
Midnight Tuxedo at Kloud-Nine "Tuker" became a part of our lives
in April 1997 in a
very special and unique way. Tuker came to us from a special
friend of ours in
Pleasureville, KY and he is a pleasure to have in our kennel and
our home. He is a very
special baby to us. After having two sable and white shelties
and seeing pictures and
seeing bi-blacks at the Dog Shows, Phillip had a great desire for
a bi-black sheltie. He
was looking for a male with a solid black face and other
desirable characteristics of a
good sheltie, yes that describes our Tuker. Now he may be
Phillip's dog on paper but he
likes his mama the best. He hates for me (Sarah) to sit at the
computer and work, he
would rather I be playing with him.. He will bark at me or pull
at my clothes until I play
fetch with him. I (Sarah) have shown Tuker a few times or maybe
Tuker has shown me
a few times, which ever way, Tuker has won a few ribbons.
Now we have AngelDust Dreamcatcher N Blu (Blu) That came into
our family Janurary 24, 1999 from some internet friends that
we meet from Indiana Just getting started in the breed also
and we do have high hopes for him too.
We have one fur baby that is not a sheltie. Our one and only and
last house cat is ,
Merlyn, who has resided at our household since July 25, 1992.
He is 3/4 Siamese and 1/4
Prussian, he looks like a flame point Siamese. He never fusses
or fights with the dogs,
just us. We have a pet door for our babies to use, Merlyn
graciously brings us things like
birds, mice, and rabbits, sometimes these creatures are still
alive. No more house cats
because of my allergy to cats.
As sheltie breeders we never want to damage the breed in any way.
That is why Oby is a
neutered pet instead of a stud dog. We try to the best of our
ability to keep in mind the
AKC breed regulations and standards. Our goal is to have a small
kennel having from
two to four litters of puppies a year. We want this to be an
enjoyable hobby that will
some day be the best Shetland Sheepdog Kennel in South Central
Kentucky. My dream
is some day to be the lady at Westminister with the winning dog
in the herding group and
take best in show.
