More About Criminal Negligence

Criminal negligence implies reckless performance of the job to inflict injury or damage on others or on the person of the employee himself, or causing huge material loss to the organization. It is the breaking point, that takes performance beyond employing normal prudence and commonsense. One who pilots an aircraft carries the safety of the lives of the passengers on board. Negligence in performance of the job resulting in loss to human life or property is not merely a misconduct and bad performance of duty, but also a heinous crime. It is described as "criminal negligence" and attracts punishment at the hands of the law, in addition to departmental punishment by the employer.

Causes Contributing Low Quality Work

Employee ratings solely on quantum of work and a payment system based on piece rate linked on the criteria of quantity of output is wrong. This ignores quality and safety norms observed in work and results in increasing rashness, i.e. a practice towards adopting a tendency to rush blindly to perform more and more output to earn higher wages, without concern for quality or safety. An employee should be encouraged to moderate his desire to outperform others in respect of quantum of output, with the emphasis given for observing quality standards and safety norms. Employers must enforce the objectives "Safety first and Safety to the Last" and "Quality Promotes business growth" as clear goals of the organization.

Total Quality Management, Loss Prevention and Damage control

Emphasis is now stressed on total quality management (TQM) to ensure perfection in service & industry. Progressive organizations also conduct research in Loss Prevention and Damage Control Measures to avert operational accidents.
