Kendriya
Vidyalaya, Ernakulam is one of the premier institutions of its
kind in Kerala State, under Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan(KVS),
NewDelhi. The Vidyalaya imparts education upto "All India Senior
School Certificates Examination"(Class XII) as per the CBSE
syllabus. The school has a strength of 1684 students and a staff
of 76, catering to the requirements of Central Govt. and
State Govt. employees stationed in & around Kochi. Kendriya Vidyalaya,
Ernakulam in the civil sector was opened in May 1965. The school,
which was located initially at Perumanoor in the Shipyard
Campus, admitted students to standards VI to IX. With the
introduction of standards I to V & X in 1966 is memorable, as
the Vidyalaya became full fledged centre of learning. The
year 1970 is memorable as the Vidyalaya moved into the present
new campus at Kadavanthra, set up in 3.2 hectare plot. The new
10+2 pattern of education was introduced in IX standard
from May 1975 and in the XI standard from 1977. Construction
of the compound wall, the water tank and the staff quarters by
the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan in 1988 was the next step
of growth in the Vidyalaya. It is a matter of great pride
that the Vidyalaya has been declared "A Model School by the Kendriya
Vidyalaya Sangathan with special privileges like a Junior
Science lab", Computer Education from class VI improved
infrastructural facilities for sports and games. A new building
with facilities to accommodate three laboratories, Junior
Science Laboratory, One Computer room, a library room with
reading facilities and a workshop has become operational recently.
The
Vidyalaya has been all along striving to achieve academic excellence
and development of the total personality of the students.
The performance of the school in sports & games, Co-Curricular
activities, Drawing & painting, Scouting & Guiding has been very
encouraging. Concerted efforts are being made to improve
our performance at all levels. Our Chairman, Mr.Gyanesh
Kumar, I.A.S., Collector, Ernakulam District has been showing
keen interest in the school activities. With him as our
patron, the Vidyalaya is bound to scale to greater heights
of excellence in all spheres of activity.
