Course Syllabus
This is a full year class. Sign-ups will be open up until Sept 2. They may re-open temporarily at the beginning of the second term. The purpose of this class is to teach you about different magical animals that may be encountered during your stay at HOL or later on in life.
Each lesson will have a section for you to read and then an assignment. Assignments will consist of approximately 10-15 questions, some of which will be multiple choice, true and false and some short answer questions. Most questions will have the answers right in the reading, others will require a little creativity and imagination for the answers.
Points and Quill Details
Here is a breakdown of how the points will be given in this class. There is a maximum of 300 points per term (this is for all HOL classes).
- Lessons- 5 lessons, each assignment is worth 30 points.
- Extra Credit Assignment 1- 20 points
- Extra Credit Assignment 2- 40 points
- If all work and exam is completed (not including Extra credit)Bonus points will be awarded- 30 points
- Exam- 60 points
To earn a quill each term, you must complete (just make an attempt at) 3 of the 5 possible assignments, and then pass the exam that term. A pass on the exam is 60%.

Course Requirements
You don't have to have taken any previous COMC classes to join this course. You must sign up through your HOL-office. If you believe you will be unable to complete the homework assignments and mid-terms, please do not sign-up. I wish to only take students that are serious about the class. You do not need to buy any textbooks, or other course materials. Anything you may need to finish the homework assignments will be provided in the lessons. HOL rules apply in this class- make sure you have read the handbook. After being accepted into the class, please go to AutoAssign and make a student file for yourself there. Please be sure to read the section about AutoAssign carefully.
AutoAssign
We will be using AutoAssign for all of our assignments. I've seen that Professor Ebba Brighton uses it- and after exploring the different uses its a wonderful site. Thanks to Prof Brighton for finding it!! It helps me to grade you faster, and it doesn't take up precious space on my e-mail account. To get to AutoAssign simply click on the Assignments link and it will take you there. After being accepted into the class you will need to first create a new student account on AutoAssign. Click on the 'Create New Student Account". Don't worry it is completely free!! There are a few quick questions to answer.1. Enter the name 'lara pandette'.
2. Enter the class 'COMC'.
3. Make a name to login with.
4. Choose your own password.
5. Type in your HOL name. Last name, First name.
6. Type in your HOL ID. (eg. la123)
7. Please use the e-mail address that you use in HOL.
Once you have created your account I will have to accept you again in the AutoAssign. After all registrations are completed you will be able to see the assignments that are currently available for you to do. To complete the assignments click on the question number and give the best possible answer. Questions can be multiple choice, true/false, or short answer.

I will refer constantly to Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander. Some lessons will also refer to additional websites. All additional credits will be listed at the end of each lesson.
