Larry's Picture Poker
Download a copy of my freeware game Larry's Picture
Poker (400kb).
Play 5-card draw using your own GIF/BMP/PCX/TIF files as the card backgrounds.
You must acquire your own images. Sorry, no JPG support yet, but you can
easily convert JPG to GIF files using Paint
Shop Pro.
To install Larry's Picture Poker:
-
Create a subdirectory, say C:\LPOKER, and download the zip file into this
directory.
-
Winzip (or pkunzip)
the zip file into this subdirectory
-
Identify where the image files you want to view are, and change the file
LPOKER.INI to include these paths, separated by semicolons, as an entry
under the [PATHS] section.
For example, if you want to view GIF files in C:\LPOKER\GOODPICS, and TIFF
files in D:\MYPICS, create a line under the PATHS section that says:
My Favorites=C:\LPOKER\GOODPICS\*.GIF;D:\MYPICS\*.TIF
Put something short and descriptive to the left of the equals sign. It
is up to you to acquire and install the images you wish to view. You may
enter as many image sets as you wish.
-
From either Program Manager or Windows Desktop, create an icon pointing
to LPOKER.EXE.
-
Run LPOKER, then click on the Menu button ("M"), then select OPTIONS /
SELECT IMAGE SET. The description parts of your LPOKER.INI [PATHS] will
be listed. Double-click on the one you want.
-
Hit F2 to start playing 5-card draw!
You may also specify rectangular portions of images to display (useful
for removing borders). An on-line help manual is coming. In the mean time,
just play with the menu items.
Download Remote Control
You may download or print the Word 6.0 Remote Control
TV Quiz Game I made up (70kb).
All you need to play this wild party game is a printout of this document,
something to keep score on, some old TV remote controllers (or any similar
props), and any musical instrument you can play (e.g. an accordion). The
document contains 4 sections of questions relating to TV, plus the answers
and point values.
Make up your own rules, or follow these:
-
Play this quiz game like a combination of Jeopardy, Family Feud
& MTV's Remote Control. Play each of the 4 sections in order
to total about 1½ hours: say 30 to 45 mins each for sections I &
II, 10 mins for section 3, and do section 4 (10 mins) while people are
getting ready to go.
-
Split players into 2 to 4 groups (1 to 5 or more persons per group).
-
Each team takes turns picking the channel. Each player in each group takes
turns as the couch potato, holding the clicker (a
TV remote controller prop you can provide).
-
The couch potato for the team taking a turn selects a channel. The
host (you) reveals the category for that channel, then reads the question.
The couch potato discusses freely with his team, then gives you
the answer.
-
If the team gets it right, they get the points. If the first team gets
it wrong, each of the remaning teams (in turn) gets 1 chance to answer;
if they get it right, the team that answers correctly gets the points.
-
Whichever team gets the correct answer (if any), that team alone may answer
any bonus questions (if any) for additional points.
-
One of the channels in part II is entitled Sing Along with Lardog. For
this section, the host (you) must perform the tune and sing the lyrics
indicated. Use any musical instrument you know how to play, i.e. piano,
guitar, accordion, tambourine, or sing a cappella. The couch potato
must sing the last verse (shown as the answer) to win.
-
You do not have to read all the questions in sections I and II. When it
looks like the party is ready to break up (usually before 2 hours), go
to Lightning Round III. The first team gets to answer the first question
for 20 points; if they miss it, nobody gets the points. The next team gets
the next question, etc. until all questions have been asked.
-
Finally, each team plays Final Jeopardy with the last 3 questions. Tell
them the category, then have each team write down its wager. After secretly
writing down their wagers, tell them the question, then have each time
write down their answers. If you suspect your group is too dumb, just ask
the first question alone. Starting with the team with the lowest score,
dramatically read their answers followed by their wagers, for a big finish.
Download Mensa Quiz
You may also download or print the Word 6.0 Mensa Quiz
I made up (24kb).
This doesn't offically have anything to do with the Mensa organization,
it's just a sheet of 30 riddles and their answers. If you're having some
kind of game playing party (e.g. playing my Remote Control game), you can
put these questions out for your guests to peruse at their leisure. Either
put the answers out too, or read the answers aloud near the end of the
party.
