This is the lower ledge in the quarry on Moody Hill. This was my first attempt
at this gorge as well as the first time out with the new suspension and
drivetrain.
This rather tame looking shot was taken at the top ledge of the Moody Hill
quarry. The actual vertical rise on this section from where you start the climb
is about 5 feet. Notice that the front tire is off the ground. The people with
me said the front tire came up about another foot before the truck came down
again. Inexperience almost did me in on this, I almost took it over backwards.
As I started the climb, everything disappeared but the clouds, and it took an
eternity for anything resembling ground to show up again. As a result, I
panicked and jammed the gas to the floor which caused the big bounce.
Afterwards, I couldn't stop shaking for about 10 minutes. I can't wait to try it
again. I'll have a strap on the next time, though, so I can get a feel for how
the obstacle should be taken on, namely, very slowly.
Here is the top ledge in the Moody Hill quarry. No, the apparent height is NOT
an exaggeration. This one scared the hell out of me. I really learned the value
of a front locker here.
Here is a fun little ledge on Crystal Mountain. Slow and easy, didn't even slip
a tire.
Big air shot. The front tire is about two feet off the rock directly under it. I
am actually pretty disappointed with this, the suspension isn't flexing much at
all here.
This shot was taken in the middle of the most heavily damaged area of the
devastating Bobcat Fire that raged through central Larimer County, Colorado in
the summer of 2000. This picture was taken in November of 2000.
Another shot taken on the first big obstacle on Crystal Mountain.
Traveling through Jenny Creek near Rollins Pass.
