Login Watch 1.6 |
Description |
This system captures login information of Unix users.
|
Features |
-
Multi-threaded. It can receive more than one connection at a time,
so large networks can be monitored.
-
Autodetects and recovers from conection errors.
-
user-defined reports.
-
Log File. Up to one month of login details, user programmable.
-
Easy to read and understand Log File format.
-
No configuration necessary, own socket port.
-
Graphic display for easy reading.
Reports to Login Watch are made through Reporter, a small C program
that can be compiled in most Unixes (so far tested on Solaris, HP/UX and
Linux). Reporter connects to a designated port on the server or monitoring
station running Login Watch and sends the desired information. A line on
the general profile creates the report and sends it before the user gets
notice of this.

To Do |
The
system is very stable so far, as no modification has been made since September
1999 (apart from minimal bug fixes). A new version, named ServerLogger
that will include all features of Login Watch is being developed right
now, so I dont expect to create a new version of this. The only addition
that has to be made is a Spanish module, as all messages are displayed
in english. Besides, Login Watch has no security features so far.
No documentation is provided. If you like to document software and of
course, like this project, a good documentation should be a good cooperation.

Watch is entirely coded in TCL. Communication
is made possible by Unix sockets. If you want to know more about Unix sockets
or how to program using them, look for my
socket programming links. The system is tested in Linux,
but should work in any Unix flavor. Please let
me know if you have tested it on other platform. You may find more
in my links page.

Download |
Login Watch is FREE software. Only thing I ask for is to let
me know that you are using it.
WARNING: Geocities does not allow me to upload .tar files, so rename
the next file to watch_server.tar and then untar it. Make sure you shift-right
mouse click to download it instead of displaying.
