Woman awarded for terrorism studies
A Darwin woman has won a $150,000 scholarship from the University of London to
study in the UK over the next three years.
Jacqueline Baker says the John Monash Award will allow her to study a masters in
violence, conflict and development.
She expects to head off to London at the beginning of next year.
Ms Baker says she became interested in human rights while working in East Timor
and the Asia Foundation in Indonesia.
"I'd actually done a thesis on a very a militant Islamic terrorist group who waged a
Jihad in Ambon, which I'm sure many people in Darwin may know about, and I
became interested in Islam through that," she said.
