The richest 1% of the U.S. population owns twice as much wealth as the poorest 80 percent. 5% hold 50% of the wealth; 20% control 80% of the wealth..........To visualize this, imagine one person having 2 bricks of gold, 19 people sharing 2 bricks, and 80 people sharing one brick to meet all their needs.

The material net worth of white households averages 3 to 90 times that of blacks (90-fold at the poor end).

20% in the U.S. are getting richer while 60% are getting poorer. The wealth of the richest 1% has increased 40% in the past 8 years while median family wealth has stayed the same.

Our economic life is driving us towards separation and isolation. Claiming to be "too busy" to make new connections across the human family will simply DEEPEN the divide. It's critical to personally commit to forming new links, and thereby reclaim our essential unity.
