The FilCyBers Connection

To my friends, coleagues, guests, and other visitors from around the world, the FCBC came into being through the internet provided by the world wide web. The FCBC is a group of young and the young once (lol) Filipinos from different parts of the globe who became friends through the cyberspace. How it really started, is not any more very clear in my foggy mind, nevertheless, here is how it started from the deepest resource of my memories lighted by the hope of this dawning

I got hooked up with the internet when my project of having a BBS for the Paranaque Police and the Municipality of Paranaque came to naught. The BBS project envisioned to connect all our units and offices in the field thereby speeding up transfer of information and benefiting from all the amenities resulting thereto.

In spite of the complaint of my wife, a subscription with one of the mushrooming ISPs in the Philippines was very necessary. I thought, "if they don't want to get connected," I do. The subscription was and still is very expensive, but I have to go for it.

While enjoying the unlimited resources provided by the cyberspace, I was learning, learning HTML fast, fast to the point of cramming. But on the way to learning, I found friends from guestbooks of different WebPages, but most especially from the The NYz Company. First to come by was Engr. Ronnie V Catral who is based in Hongkong, we exchanged e-mails. Then came Constable Ireneo G Peregil, (The Ranger) a Peel Regional Police in the City of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, who happened to have already exchanged mails with Ronnie. Then came our great poet, (ala-Balagtasan), Valentino Angeles of Traders' Connection Web BBS*, Indianapolis, USA Successively came the beautiful ladies, Teresa Baltazar Christian, a Canadian Filipina, Mari Dino and Violet Reodica all of Calgary, Alberta Canada. Halfway came in Engr. Archie P. Fusilero a Senior Field Service/System Support Engineer of Intergraph, Middle East (Abu Dhabi) United Arab Emirates. Somehow, somewhere, Archie just suddenly got lost from the crowd. A month before the 6th APEC Summit in Manila, came in the handsome Philip Landicho, the "El Caviteno" from Silang, who is based in Vienna, Austria.

It was in the early part of July 1996, I think, that the name was conceived. Each and everyone of us was to submit a proposed name for the group and the FilcyBers Connection cropped up for the Filipino Cyber Netters. That is now the FCBC.

The FCBC is not really intended to be compared with such large and/or well known organizations. It is only meant for this small group of Filipinos. It is not recruiting members, neither has it any plans to expand. However, the FCBC is not also closed to anybody who wants to become friend or join our e-mailings, or what we call at times mailtok
To all FCBC please contribute your share so that this will be updated. If there are any correction please send it in immediately..
