News Letter for the Leonberger Club of the NorthWest |
February 1, 2002 Hello Leo Lovers, The new year is now here and our winter specialty is just around the corner. This year we have decided to extend the fun and have a two-day show. We have also decided to have another raffle. The summer raffle was a big success and we hope that this next one will be even better. Actually we are having two raffles, each day we will raffle off half of the items. With the addition of a two-day show we thought it would be nice to have a headquarters hotel. There are few hotels around the show site so we selected one just a little up the highway in Lynnwood .We have arranged a block of rooms for the show at the Residence Inn by Marriott (425) 774-1100x305 Danielle, ask for the Leonberger show rate. The rooms includes two dogs ($5 per pet a night after 2), full kitchen, extra large rooms (starting 580sq. ft.), a complimentary breakfast buffet with Belgium waffle bar and evening snacks, shuttle service to local attractions including our show if you would like to have them do the driving. Everyone is invited to go dinner on Saturday night after the show, but the location has not been finalized as of yet, so look for details to come soon or at the show. If you are arriving in on Friday night to stay the weekend we will be gathering at the Keg across the parking lot from the hotel, please join us. Two local judges, Mr. Dick Beckwith and Mr. Warren Hudson, have been selected for the upcoming show. Mr. Beckwith has been a judge for 30 years, a top breeder of Golden Retrievers, and has judged Leonbergers at ARBA and International shows. Mr. Hudson is approved to judge all AKC working breeds and has judged Leonbergers at ARBA shows in the past. I am excited to announce that we will have a few more showing opportunities in the coming year. A few of the local clubs that offer UKC shows have agreed to host our breed. The first show is Feb. 16 & 17 plus we are confirmed in a larger UKC show the weekend after the 4th of July. Water rescue practices will be starting in the spring. I have not confirmed a date yet with the Newfoundland Club for a demo but we are talking about May, once the weather warms up a bit, since we do have to get in the water. After that we will have practices around the region so everyone can get ready for the tests at the summers end. I have updated the calendar recently with all the NWLC, CKC, ARBA, IABCA, & UKC conformation shows. It also contains the Leo walk schedule for the year. Next I will find dog-sporting events Leo’s can participate in for the upcoming year. Watch for water rescue, canine seminars, Leo parties, fairs/festivals, and other events that can include your dog or is about dogs. You can access the calendar at www.calendar.yahoo.com/nwleo2001. Please send me information about events that you would like to see listed on the calendar. I can’t wait until we are all together again, enjoying another Winter Specialty! This should be a lot of fun. Good luck finding that just right raffle donation! See you soon, Jennifer Kemmish Northwest Leonberger Club President |
