travel and pleasure

Leo has developed an expensive taste for island adventures. His favorite places are the blue waters of Cozumel, Mexico where he snorkels a lot with friends. The local people are so humble and warm to the tourists, probably because of the dollar smell, he says.

Recently, he was assigned to a vessel that visited the Canadian provinces, St. John and Halifax, Nova Scotia sailing out of New York. It was paradise for Leo having to change to a 100 degrees climate in the Caribbean to a cold temperature in the North.

St. John brought him a lot of magic with the old, Elizabethan edifice made from bricks dominating the scene. The place is very serene filled with simplicity.  Halifax, Nova Scotia is bombarded with commercial structures but the stunning boardwalk along the shore can capture a moment of bliss. Interestingly enough, a lot of the buildings in both places are connected together. You don't have to leave one building to go to the next one. It's probably the changing seasons that this mechanism serves the purpose.

Leo's past travels include the World Cruise bringing him to key places like Rome, Greece, Zanzibar, Singapore and Australia. In Rome, 4 rolls of film had to be consumed when he strolled around places like St. Peter's Basilica, and the Coliseum.  He mentions, "visiting the Pope's land was like a rebirth of my soul. To have seen these places in books and movies is something but to actually feel the stone and step on the soil they stand on is just pure magic."

His travel in Athens marked a historical awareness after his visit to the ruins of the Parthenon, Acropolis, where the first Western Greek civilization began. These structures are barricaded because they are so old, he couldn't touch any of them.

In Zanzibar, Africa, Leo was captivated by the people sitting around bushes.  'They looked perfectly contented and relaxed', Leo remembers.

Aside from his endless travels all over the world, Leo has a passion for reading John Grisham and Crichton books.  His favorites are 'The Chamber' and 'Disclosure', respectively. Yet, he also dwells on Harry Potter's world of wizardry, books and movies alike. But don't be disappointed because he has time for Descartes and Sartre as well.

Because Leo is a musician, his indulgence in music is impeccable. He has a library of sheet music and CD's from different genres that take turns in playing depending on his mood.
