The Department of Computer Science known for its reputation of being among the best ones in karnataka, aims at producing an excellent engineer out of each student apart from being actively engaged in research programmes.

It is proud to have the finest of lecturers who are highly qualified. Each one is an expert in his field and has an excellent teaching skill. They are easily accessible and are always ready to attend to the students and help them in all the possible ways.

The Department offers the following courses:

  • B.E in computer science
  • Masters degree in computer application (MCA)
  • Post graduate diploma in Business Computing.

These courses are designed to help the students cope with the recent advancements of the computer industry. The lab facilities provided to the students equip them with not only the subjects within their curriculum but also with other latest software and development tools.

It has ties with India's best computer Institute SSI. SSI offers courses, which help the students to be equipped with the latest software. SSI also helps the students acquire certificates, which certifies them to be a Microsoft certified Software Professional.

It conducts number of paper presentations, software quizzes and other computer-related competition. Students from various part of the country take part in these. These help the students to be informed of the latest happenings in the IT industry.

It also helps the students to take campus interviews by conducting seminars on the same. These induce confidence in the student to face the interview and to be successful.

It stands first when compared with other departments with respect to the number companies coming for campus interview. Most of the students when complete their course are either well placed in a reputed company or are doing the Masters.


LAB FACILITIES:

The Laboratory facilities in the department help students learn the languages in the syllabus. It also provides research facilities for students and faculty, consultancy and R&D works conducted by the department.

The following facilities are available in the laboratories:

  • NT Server: Client server based on a 233 MHz PII processor with 64 MB RAM. The system runs on Windows NT 4.0 supporting 5 terminals. All the terminals are Pentium 166 MHz with 32MB RAM, 2.1 GB Hard disk and a SVGA Color monitor.
  • LINUX Server: The server is powered with a 166 MHz Pentium processor and has 32 MB of RAM and it runs on RedHat 6.0 Linux. It supports 15 terminals, which run at 100 MHz and are diskless nodes.
  • UNIX Server: It is based on a 166MHz Pentium processor running on the Unix Operating System SCO 4.0. It supports 15 nodes, which are all diskless nodes.
  • NOVELL Server: Based on a 166 MHz Pentium processor, it runs on the Novell NetWare 4.11 Intranetware. It supports 15 nodes and each of these is a stand-alone machine based on 166 MHz Pentium Processor.
  • MULTIMEDIA SYSTEM: The department has a separate Laboratory in which all the computers have Multimedia Kit in them. Each one of these is powered with a 233MHz Pentium Processor.
  • IMAGE PROCESSING: The department provides the students flat bed scanners, Digital video camera and other hardware required for any image processing project. It also provides software for the same.
  • MICROPROCESSOR LABORATORY: The department provides the students hardware required for the experiments in the syllabus and for any other project. It provides the students with 8085 Microprocessor Kits with Elevator Interface, Dual DAC Interface, Dual Slope Interface, AudioTape Interface, Floppy disc Interface, Assemblers and dissemblers.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:

The department conducts BRAINSTORM every year. BRAINSTORM is a state level competition and students from different states and universities take part in this. The competitions in BRAINSTORM include paper presentation, Quizzes related to computers, Software development contest and debugging contest. The judges for these competitions are invited from different colleges. They are experts in their field.

The department also takes up project form various companies.

Besides this, the department is actively invoked in campus placements. It along with few other departments works hard trying to get more and more companies to the college so that the students of this college are benefited and secured with a good job when they complete their graduation. It also analyses and finds way of keeping the standards expected by the companies.

The companies that have visited the college so far include SAS, TATA Infotech, IT Solutions, Kirloskar and others.

The department also encourages the students to take part in competitions conducted by the other colleges. It helps the students interested in all possible ways to help him be successful.
