Chapter 13
Lucy's Office
The next morning....
Lucy could not believe it. She and Kevin had declaired their love for each other and nothing bad or dangerous happened to them. They ended up on the couch and from there they got to the floor. But she did not care where she was as long as she was with Kevin...her Doc...her love.
She decided it was time for a wake-up call and she softly and gently kissed his neck and shoulders. Kevin opened his eyes and smiled down upon her.
''Good Morning, sweetheart.'' Kevin said, kissing her on the lips in a passionate kiss.
''Good Morning to you too Doc.'' Lucy said as she playfully nibbled his lower lip.
They both knew that they needed to spend the day the right way so they got dressed and made a bee-line for Lucy's apartment. Anxious to get a start on the day's ''activities''.
The Chamberlain's Apartment (R'Lynne bedroom)
When Ryan woke up and reached for Lynne and she was not there, he suddenly remembered that she was in the hospital.''Oh, Lynne, where or when did we go wrong? I want this to work out between us. We promised each other that it would be forever. I plan on making that happen. You have to believe in our true love. I know I do and always have.''
He was brought out of his thoughts by a crash coming from the living room. He sprang (yeah you read right!) from the bed and ran out just in time to see Krissy and Destiny picking up what was left of Lynne's wedding present to him.
''I told you to watch where you were going!'' Krissy hissed.''Now you are going to wake that terror in the other room up.''
Ryan's mouth went into a smirk.''Too late.''
Krissy spun around her French braid whipping around and smiled her best smile.''Oh, Did you hear everything I just said?'' She suddenly realized it was a stupid question and dropped what was left of the ceramic angel that Lynne had given Ryan on their wedding night.
''Well I heard you call me a terror but other than that no I was too much in thought to hear you.'' Ryan said honestly.
Lucy's Bedroom (early afternoon)
''Ahh! Doc, where was all that passion last night?'' Lucy teased snuggling even deeper into Kevin's chest.
''Are you complaining about last night?!?'' Kevin said with faux-alarm.''Well fine. I can complain too! I am complaining about your complaining.''
''My God! That was hard to follow, Doc. And everyone else thinks that my Lucy logic is hard to follow! Kevin Logic is even HARDER!'' Lucy said trying to keep a straight face. But her eyes were dancing and laughing for her.
''Hey! Kevin Logic is A LOT easier to follow than Lucy Logic.'' Kevin said laughter in his voice. 'This is what I needed. Now that Lucy and I have made love I feel like a totally different person' Kevin thought to himself.'and the scary part is...I like feeling this way.'
(I know Robin did not work as a Jr. Volunteer at GH. At least to my knowlage. But for this she is going to she is needed for this scene with Lynne and Ryan. Two words for the purists out there: POETIC LICENSE! :0))
14 year old Robin Amber Scorpio was sitting at the front desk of the admittance office of GENERAL HOSPITAL. She was flipping through a magazine and was reading an interesting article on how the FBC studios puts on a medical soap opera with almost pin-point (uh-huh, suuure!) accuracy.
''Excuse me..um..Robin. Could I take this up to Dr. Chamberlain's room?'' Kimberly said.''I was supposed to bring them yesterday but I left it in my cubicle at work. Ms. Coe will be steaming mad if I don't have them in Dr. Chamberlain's hands soon!''
''Uh..sure but Dr. Chamberlain is a DOCTOR here not a PATIENT. Besides he left hours ago.'' Robin said.
''Oh. I think these were for his wife..what was her name? Lynne? She had a miscarriage a few days ago.'' Kimberly said.
''OHHH!'' Robin said finally realizing WHICH Chamberlain Kimberly meant.''Yeah she is still here. Here I will walk up with you, I am on break right now anyway.''
''Great. I need someone to talk to anyway.'' Kimberly said.
Lynne's Room 3rd Floor Room 307
''So you can get the papers drawn up tonight?'' Lynne asked her lawyer Tonia Jones.''That is great because I am wanting out of this marriage as soon as can be.''
''Not a problem. But I have to ask. Is this a mutual agreement between you and Ryan?'' Tonia asked.
''Yup! His actions showed me that he wants out! There fore so do I!'' Lynne said starting to cry and caressing her stomach.''I am soo sorry I just lost my child and part of me cannot believe it.''
''I know it is hard, why don't you see a shrink?'' Tonia asked.
''I AM a shrink!'' Lynne yelled then recoiled.''I am sorry about that. I did not mean to snap at you.''
''Don't worry about it Lynne.'' Tonia said.''I have been there myself.''
Chapter 14
~~Elevator on 1st floor at GH~~
''Who did you say you worked for?'' Robin asked Kimberly.''Did you say you worked for Lucy?''
Kimberly did not know what to make of this young girl's spark for life or her peppiness. She answered the question with a question. ''How old are you Robin?''
''14.'' Robin said,''why?''
''You just look so much older than you are. I am just daydreaming. I get like that sometimes. You seeing anyone Robin?'' Kimberly asked.
Robin wondered why all the questions, but she answered,''Yeah his name is Michael ''Stone'' Cates. How bout you?''
''I was married for a while. No kids though. My sister is the only thing I have left.'' Kimberly said.
''Who is your sister?'' Robin asked, not expecting the shock that would be hitting her in a minute.''Do I know her?''
''YOU are her, Robin. You and I are sisters.'' Kimberly said.''Or to be more precise we are step-sisters.''
Lynne's Room Later that night
Kim and Robin had already been there and gone. Ryan was there now and trying to hold his marriage together..without a lot of success. Lynne was listening but she was waiting for the right time to spring the papers on him.
''...I know you don't believe me right now, let alone trust me, but you have to believe that I love you with every beat of my heart. I want to try again. I cannot loose you!'' Ryan said.
''Ryan! Tonia Jones was here earlier and she gave me these. I want to divorce you. Maybe someday we can get back together again but now is too soon after the death of our daughter.'' Lynne said.
She handed him the papers tears in her eyes. She REALLY did not want to do it, but to keep her sanity she had to!
The next day Lynne was released and went home. HER home. The apartment above the Outback. Ryan had to move out because in the papers for the divorce Lynne got to keep the apartment.
Lynne was sitting on the couch near the window and looking sad. She had lost all of the things she had tried so hard to gain...her daughter...gone and then Ryan.
She kept asking herself,'What did I do wrong? Was it my pregnancy that caused this mess? I know Ryan did not want a infant right now but sometimes God knows what we need when SOME PEOPLE don't realize it! God, please help Ryan through this tough time so we can attempt to get together again. I love him so. But it is because I love him that I cannot live with him.'
''Krissy where did you put the--'' Destiny was yelling when she walked in the room until she noticed her sister of 23 years sitting on the couch sad and depressed.''Lynne what is it? There is something you are holding back from me and Krissy huh?''
''Des. Remember when I told you that I was thinking of leaving Ryan? Well the divorce is official. We are no longer married.'' Lynne wailed. It hurt to even think about it. But she had to do it.
(KNOCK ON DOOR)
''Excuse me for a minute, let me get that.'' Lynne said. She wiped her eyes on the way to the door and was relieved when she saw her sweet understanding ex-brother-in-law standing there with his girlfriend who just happened to be Lucy Coe.
''Lynne!'' Kevin said giving her a hug.''What happened with you and Ryan?''
''Well, it all started on the 21st of last month. You see I was checking my email and happened to have come across one of Ryan's by mistake. It said that this Malone person at GH was meeting him for a party there that night. Well I knew there was no party scheduled for that day. So then I go to mine and I find out that I am 3 months pregnant with Ryan's child and that I am anemic. THEN when my sisters came over I discovered that Ryan had cheated and then I miscarried and here we are.'' Lynne said fighting to keep her voice steady.
''Ly, where is that poor excuse for a human being?'' Kevin asked.
''At GH.'' Lynne said.
''Lucy, stay with Lynne I won't be long..'' Kevin said and left.
Kevin's car en route to GH
Kevin could not remember when he was so angry at anyone. The person that he used to be good pals with had crossed the line...AGAIN!
'Ryan you had better have a darn good excuse for this situation with Ly.' Kevin thought.'Because right now I feel like ripping your pathetic little heart out. Oh but first you would have to have a heart to rip out!'
Lynne's apartment
''He did WHAT?!'' a very emotional Lucy squeaked.''Ryan slept with an intern? Are you sure?''
''I am not sure WHO he slept with but it WAS someone at the hospital. Miss Coe, I need your help! Can you help me find out who the person was at GH that Ryan had a horizontal dance with about 2 months ago?'' Lynne asked quietly and eyes looking at the floor. She had to admit she was a little intimidated by Lucy. She was a lot to take in. But Lynne felt a connection to Lucy right away.
''Call me Lucy or Luce. Lemme get this straight! You want ME to investigate YOUR ex-hubby?'' Lucy said with a twinkle in her eye.
''Yeah. I will pay you of course. With what little money I have left.'' Lynne said.
''I never accept payment from friends for my top-notch investigative services. Hey, do you want to work at Deception? I could use another assistant. Don had to go back to his parents house for a family crisis. What do you say? What days do you work at GH?''
''Monday and Wednesday's from 8:30 to 5:00 pm. I am free the rest of the week unless I am called into work. When can I start working for you.'' Lynne asked her mood brightening.
''Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!'Work for me?' No my dear you would be working WITH me.'' Lucy said with a giggle.
''Sold!'' Lynne said and hugged Lucy.''What do you want to know about Ryan and my relationship to start your investigation?''
First Floor Lobby (GH East Wing)
Ryan was just finishing up in surgery and could not wait for a break. But little did he know that his identical twin brother would be in the lobby waiting for him.
Before he could even think, Kevin grabbed him and dragged him to his office. Ryan could tell that this was NOT a social call.
Kevin's Office
Kevin slammed Ryan down into a chair and locked the door behind him. As soon as Ryan had stopped whimpering Kevin let loose!
''HOW DARE YOU! RYAN YOU MARRIED THE SWEETEST GIRL IN THE WORLD AND YOU CHEAT ON HER BECAUSE SHE IS OR SHOULD I SAY WAS PREGNANT WITH YOUR BABY. SOMETHING YOU AND SHE CREATED...OUT OF LOVE FOR EACH OTHER?!'' Kevin yelled.
''OH MY GOODNESS. You think that I cheated on Ly because she was carrying my baby? Get real Kevin! I admit that I did not want the baby right away after we got married but after I realized that she was already pregnant...well, I changed my mind. But it was NOT my affair with...well the name is not important..that caused her to loose our daughter. It was her fault.'' Ryan said.
''RYAN JOEL CHAMBERLAIN! WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU? YOU ARE NOT THE SAME PERSON THAT I USED TO TRICK MOTHER AND FATHER BY SWITCHING PLACES ALL THE TIME. BUT WHEN I FIRST CAME HERE AND FOUND YOU, I THOUGHT I WANTED TO HELP YOU CHANGE YOUR WAYS. BUT NOW YOU ARE NOT WORTH IT. GET THE HECK OUT OF MY SIGHT!''
Chapter
Lynne's Apartment (deck)
Lynne and Lucy were sitting in lounge chairs on Lynne's balcony when Lucy asked clear out of the blue...
''Why did he do it?''
''Why did who do what?'' Lynne asked.
''Why did Ryan do this to you? I mean you two were happy right?''
''Yeah.''
''Has he done this before? Cheat on you I mean?'' Lucy asked pointblank.
''N-not that I know of why? What are you getting at Lucy?'' Lynne asked suddenly curious as to what Lucy was up to.''Are you saying he might have done this before?''
''I am trying to figure out motive for him to do this! Did he get any emails or packages from women who work at GH or where he used to live?'' Lucy said calmly.
Lynne suddenly flashedback to the email she had read from Ryan's account. Should she tell Lucy what she did? Could she trust her to keep what she did quiet? For the love of her Fallen Angel Baby Daughter she had to risk it.
''Yes! There was an email about three months ago...'' Lynne's voice trailed off.''I suspected that something was up with Ryan and I was sending my sisters, Krissy and Destiny, a letter about how I was doing. I came across an email from a SweetDoc who worked at the hospital and I sensed something was off. I printed it then hid it so Ryan would not find out I read his mail. Then I ran into the note from GH Labs that said I was...''
''I know it is hard to relive all of that but if you want to expose Ryan you are going to have to relive it. I will be there with you the entire way.'' Lucy said thinking about the two children she lost.''I promise.''
''Thanks Lucy. Okay I will try but if I feel that I cannot handle it we drop it, agreed?''
''Agreed.''
Kevin's Office (GH)
Ryan looked at his brother -his older brother- and smirked. He knew something that would even the score between them. Ryan was the only living person who knew what really happened the night that Grace died at the lake. Ryan decided it was time to shed some light on the very dark subject...
''Hey bro. Remember when Grace died at Lindstrom Lake? Well I hate to tell you this but Grace was not carrying your child when she died. It was my baby. Analyze that Doc!''
And with that he unlocked the door and left the office and a very stunned Kevin.
''Would you like me to go get the copy of the message so you can look at it?'' Lynne offered.
''If you think it can help nail Ryan to the wall then sure. I would ''love'' to see it!'' Lucy said.''While you are doing that I am going to call Doc and ask how his meeting with R--um-- session went this afternoon.''
''You don't have to cover for him I know he went to confront Ryan and between you and me, I hope that he gives Ryan a piece of his mind.'' Lynne chirped. She was glad that someone had the guts to stand up to the man that she still loved madly, eventhough she couldn't.
After Lynne left the balcony, Lucy pulled out her cell phone from her purse and dialed Kevin's number.
''Doctor Collins.''
''Hello. Dr. Collins, this is Lucy Coe.'' Lucy smiled remembering how he reacted when she used that line with him the first time.
''Hey Lucy. I have told you over and over and over again that I cannot be your therapist and your boyfriend at the same time. I am going to have to recommend another therapist.'' Kevin said grinning.
''Why can't I have both? I am attracted to both of you! I am in love with Doctor Collins because of his brains, and I am in love with Kevin for his kind nature and displays of affection! But enough about me. What happened with Ryan? Anything productive?'' Lucy asked.
''I basically came thisclose to doing him bodily harm. But I basically just told him that he was an idiot to ruin the best thing that ever happened to him.''
''What did he say to that?''
''He smirked and said something to the affect that Grace was pregnant with his child when she died at the lake. It was almost as if he was trying to work his way out of the lecture. I am not sure I buy the story though. Are you free can I see you?''
''I am at Lynne's and cannot go anywhere because you have the car! Sweetie she could really use her brother-in-law right now.'' Lucy said.''So could I for that matter.''
''Be right over!''
''Whoa! Lynne calm down! What has you all worked up?'' Kristen said.
''Remember that email I showed you awhile ago? The one from SweetDoc to Ryan. I made a copy of the email and now I cannot find it have you seen it? Lucy wants to see it. She is helping me nail Ryan. Oh God! You don't think Ryan found it and destroyed it do you?'' Lynne asked in a panic.
''Kristen cleaned the desk last week and threw away a bunch of papers that were scrap paper and the email might have been slipped into the pile.'' Destiny said.
''Oh great!'' Lynne said.''And he probably deleated it from his email file on the computer. Now what do we do?''
''Do you remember the place where SweetDoc was from? Her domain name? Or her intials?'' Destiny said.''If you can remember that then I can type in the domain name and we can see if there is one listed and see who it is.''
''I think it was SweetDoc@genhos.com.'' Lynne said.''There were intitals. I think it was T.M. but I could be wrong. You have to remember that was the day I found out I was pregnant and that is hard for me to remember right now.''
''What is your password to get into your email file?'' Destiny asked.
''TruLuv.'' Lynne said.''I picked that because at the time I believed that is what me and Ryan had. I guess you were right. I should not have married him.''
''Don't be so hard on yourself. It is not your fault.'' Kristen said.''It is Ryan's fault for being unfaithful to you and your unborn baby.''
''Janelle.''
''Who?''
''I named our baby Janelle. I have always loved that name. My God Kristen I did not even get to feel her kick! Janelle why did you leave me! You are what I have always wanted.''
''Ly, I know it is hard but things happen for a reason--'' Destiny began as she typed in the information into the computer.
''DO NOT GIVE ME THAT! YOU TWO HAVE NEVER LOST A CHILD! THIS DOES NOT JUST HAPPEN FOR A REASON! RYAN CHEATING IS WHY THIS HAPPENED! I COULD NOT HANDLE IT AND IT WAS TOO MUCH FOR JANELLE AND I LOST HER!!!!'' Lynne cried at the top of her voice.''DARN YOU RYAN. HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME! CANT YOU LET ME BE HAPPY FOR ONCE!''
''What do you mean they know about us? I thought you covered our tracks!'' Tamera yelled.
''When Lynne miscarried our child. Kristen figured it out. Lynne and I are seeking a divorce.'' Ryan said.''But look on the bright side they do not know who I have made love to other than Lynne.''
''It's only a matter of time before they figure it out.'' Tamera said.''You have to figure out something and fast!''
''Hey, I found something!'' Destiny yelled.
When everyone was behind her at the computer she began to read.
''Lynne the person that Ryan had the affair with works for the hospital. Her name is Dr. Tamera Malone and she is a first year intern. Her specialty is Pediatrics.''
Chapter 16
General Hospital Coffee Shoppe
Robin was sitting with Kimberly in a corner booth of the shoppe. She was trying to sort out what Kimberly had told her earlier in the week. Could they be related? Her father Robert Scorpio was married before he married her mother, Anna.
But that way of thinking would make them halfsisters not stepsisters. Robin could not wait any longer she HAD to find out how they were related.
''Kimberly?'' Robin asked shyly.''How exactly are we related?''
''On your mother's side. Anna --your mom-- married my dad, Jordan Anderson. I was 5 when it happened. It was before Robert even met her. I assumed you knew about your parent's past.'' Kim said.''What happened to Anna and Robert anyway?''
''They were killed. Ceasar Faison arranged for them to be killed. I was too little to remember. But I went to live with relatives, then I was sent to live with Mac Scorpio and he adopted me.''Robin said.
''The police commissioner? That Mac Scorpio?'' Kim asked, with a slight grin on her face.
''Yeah.''
''Maybe finding Robin was not a bad idea after all maybe she could help me talk to Mac...''Kim wondered.
Lynne's Apartment
''I'll get it!'' Lucy said as she hightailed it to the door.''Hi Doc!''
''Hey love. Any luck finding out what my brother has been upto?'' Kevin asked.
''Yeah, Destiny just found out who SweetDoc is. Her name is Tamera Malone and she works at the hospital.'' Lucy said hugging him excitedly.''Come sit down. We were just discussing the next step in the plan to expose Ryan.''
Distracted, Kevin finally realized what Lucy was saying.''Oh, yeah right. Okay what do you have so far?''
Lucy could tell Kevin was distracted and asked what was wrong. He told her it was nothing serious and he would tell her later.
As they entered the living room Krissy and Lynne were busy talking about Janelle and what plans Lynne had for her. Destiny who was still on the computer was the only one to notice Kevin and Lucy's entrance into the room.
''Hey bro-in-law! Hey Luce! Come on in, your right on time to discuss the plan.''
Sniffling Lynne got up and hugged Kevin.''Glad you could make it Kev. I guess this is what you call brother against brother, huh?''
''Ly, what is it? What's wrong?'' Kevin asked.
''I was just thinking about Janelle...my Angel baby. I want to expose Ryan for her. She would have wanted that for her mommy, I think. I am just so confused.'' Lynne sniffed.''Hey Lucy.''
''Hey Lynne. Remember what I told you. You can pull out of this if it gets to be too much. If you want to talk about it, I am the woman for the job. I have had two miscarriages. I know what you are going through believe me.'' Lucy said.
''Shall we get started?''
''Absolutely! But first let me splash some water on my face. I will be right back.''
Nurses Station --6th floor-- General Hosptial
Sara Laninski was working on case files for Alan Quartermaine when she got interrupted by a mystery woman.
''Excuse me.'' the woman said.''Do you happen to know where Doc Collins is? I have an appointment with him and he is not in his office.''
''Ma'am. Dr. Collins had to leave for a family emergency, but if it is urgent I can call him for you.'' Sara said sweetly.''What is your name?''
''Ms. Charlene Simpson, and yes it is urgent. He is helping me find my neice.'' Charlene answered.
''It will take a minute to find the phone number. Why don't you sit over there and when I find it I will call you over, okay?'' Sara said.
''You are not going to call him are you? I am many things my dear but I'm no fool. I know when I am being tricked.'' Charlene said with her voice rising.
Now Sara was loosing her cool.''Mrs. Simpson! I am not tricking you. I have been on-call for the past 48.5 hours and am in no mood to be accused of lying! I have to finish the charts. THEN and only then will I call Dr. Collins and tell him you need to see him.''
''Fine. Can't a woman ask a question around here without being yelled at?'' Charlene said and walked away.
Lynne's Apartment
''The first thing we need to do is figure out what would have motivated Ryan to do this. Any ideas?'' Kristen said.
''Well this all started when I brought up the idea of starting a family.'' Lynne said.
''What was his response, Lynne?'' Kevin asked.''Did he change the subject or ignore you?''
''Well it was our three month anniversary and we had just moved in...'' Lynne said. She flashed back to that night.''I was looking around the apartment and was remembering the argument we had about buying it. I objected at first but then Ryan flashed those brown eyes at me and I caved.''
''Then what happened?''
''I looked at him and figured out how I wanted to celebrate our three month anniversary. I asked him about getting pregnant and he told me that since we had just moved in and gotten married and started at GH that we should wait. Little did he know it was too late. After that we made love but he was not acting like himself. There was no passion.'' Lynne said.
''I think I might know what threatened him. Ly, I am not sure if he told you but our mother molested him when we were four years old and then Victor left him behind to suffer. I think he was afraid that he would do the same thing to Janelle.''
A phone rings and Kevin realises it is his cell phone.
''Excuse me.'' Kevin said,''Dr. Collins.''
''Hey Kevin, it's Sara Laninski from GH. I have a Charlene Simpson here asking for you. Should I put her on?'' Sara asked.
''Go ahead put Ms. Simpson on.''
At Kevin's words Lucy's back stiffened. She ran out the room and on to the balcony. Her aunt could not have found her. Impossible!
After he was done with Charlene, Kevin went out and nuzzled Lucy's neck.
''What is wrong?''
''Was that Charlene Simpson on the phone with you?'' Lucy asked dreading the answer.
''Yeah why? You know her?''
''She's my aunt.'' Lucy said.
