Chapter 21
Kevin's office
Lucy was standing by the window and looking out with a sad look on her face. She did not know what to think. The one thing she DID know was that she owed Kevin an explaination.
She trusted him and his love enough to tell what REALLY happened on that horrible night when Bethany-Lynne Coe was conceived.
She turned around and found him staring at her with a comforting grin on his face. She opened her mouth to speak but instead of words she began to cry again.
The tears flowed without end.
When she finally regained control she went over to Kevin and sat down and looked at him.
''I owe you the truth.'' was all she said.
''Only if you are ready.'' was all Kevin said.
''I should have been honest from the start. But the reason I did not tell you about Lynne was because I was afraid of how you would react. When I told Alan and Tony they did not respond well to the news. I was afraid you would react in the same way. I did not mean to violate your trust Kevin.'' Lucy said.
''I know you didn't mean to. You would have told me when you were ready. Does her 'father' know about her?'' Kevin asked.
''No. Danny does not know about her. I was only 4 months pregnant with her when we graduated and I was not showing yet. I don't know what I would have done if he found out.'' Lucy sniffed.
''How did your aunt react when you told her that you suspected you were pregnant?''
''She was mad. But she also was sympathetic. She wanted me to get rid of the baby but I couldn't do it. That was something I had created or help create. I know she was not created in love but I loved her anyway. I told Charlene that and she allowed me to carry to term but then after birth, well you know the rest.''
''How did you feel when she told you that the baby had 'died'?''
''My heart was cut into two pieces. I mourned the loss of a child that I carried for nine months and the pain has not gone away I still think about her. Doc we have to tell Lynne. We have to tell her I am her mother!''
''We will Lucy. But first could you tell me about the rape? I don't mean to bring back memories of that night but if we are going to tell Lynne then we need to get the facts straight. It will be painful but it could also be theraputic to discuss it and get it out in the open.'' Kevin said.
''Okay where do you want me to begin?''
''Why not start with how you two met.'' Kevin suggested.
''Okay. I was working in the library of Prarie Canyon High School in Jennings and he walked in the room and I was attracted to him. We were complete opposites. I was poor and he was rich. He was popular I was mousey and insecure.''
Lucy paused a minute deciding if she REALLY wanted to continue. Then it hit her she COULD tell Kevin and he would not judge her like Tony and Alan had.
''He was nice at first. We went out a couple of times and then one day he got mean. I mean physically violent. He wanted to take the relationship further but I didn't. He took me to one of Jenning's most famous make out spots and started to seduce me. I let him until...'' she trailed off. Getting up from the couch she faced the window again and continued.''Until he made me take off my shirt and pull up my skirt. I knew he wanted to have sex with me but I was not ready and I told him 'No' but he did not listen before I knew it he had already done the damage. He scarred me Kevin! He took my innocense and scarred me! God why didn't I leave that car when I had the chance. Why, Doc, WHY!''
''Because you had a thing for him. What he did was wrong. Did you report him?''
''I couldn't do that! Do you honestly believe that they would have listened to a mousey, insecure, trailer park girl like me and actually BELIEVED me?'' Lucy said between sobs.''No they would have BLAMED me for it! I did not have money. Money talks in Jennings.''
Kevin just held her and told her that it was over. Little did they both know their troubles were just beginning...
Waiting area at the PCPD
Robin wished that she could help Kim more than she could. But what could a 14 year old girl do? Not much in cases like this.
''Kim are you absolutely sure that someone is after you?'' a young officer named Angelique said.''We get stuff like this often. Do you have proof of this?''
Now Angelique did not like being a skeptic but in her job she had to be. She also could sense that the young girl named Kim was telling the truth. But for policy reasons she had to be sure.
''Yes. I am deadly sure that someone is after me. I was walking into my house and then noticed a spraypainted warning from a dangerous man. I have never even heard of this man before and he was after me for some reason.'' Kim said.''His name is Damian Smith
Chapter 22
Lucy's stomach was doing flip flops. She was about to tell Lynne that she was her mother.
She wondered what Lynne's reaction might be. Would she accept her as her mother? Would she believe Lucy? Would she withdraw from her?
But on top of that was the wonderful feeling that she was Lynne's mother.
Kevin looked at Lucy and smiled.
He could tell she was nervous. He understood that. He was so lost in thought that he almost missed the turn into Lynne's apartment parking lot.
He parked the car and looked at Lucy and said.''No matter what happens. She will always be yours.''
Then he kissed her and she returned the kiss. She was a lot calmer now. Kevin's kisses had that affect on her. She loved it.
''Thank you.''
'What'd I do?'' Kevin asked innocently.
''You have been there for me through it all. From dealing with Serena and Scotty moving to Canada and leaving me behind. To finding out that Lynne is really my daughter. Thank you.'' Lucy smiled.
''I don't mean to be selfish but I'm glad that he didn't take you with him.''
''Why do you say that, Doc?'' Lucy asked. She knew full well what the reason was but it would help her deal with Lynne's reaction to the news.
''Because I would never have been able to fall in love you my dearest Lucy.'' Kevin said with a wickedly suggestive grin on his face.''Do you regret it Lucy?''
''Nah. I love you Doc. Later I will show you how much I love you.'' Lucy said leaning in to give Kevin a passionate kiss which he returned.''Now let's do this thing!''
''Right behind you, Lucy.''
Angelique could not believe that she had heard right. Kim didn't say 'Damian Smith.' She asked Kim again...
''Did you just say Damian Smith?''
''Afraid so. I don't know what I have done to make him hunt me down. I barely know the guy.'' Kim said.
''How did you meet him Kimberly?'' Angelique asked.
''Believe it or not we met in the lobby of the Port Charles Hotel. I was just leaving for the night and we literally ran into each other. He said that it was his fault. But I said no, it was my fault because I was preoccupied with my divorce and deciding on how to proceed, when we ran into each other. We exchanged words and he said that he would like to see me again but I told him to forget it. Then he said that no one says no to him. Then I said well until now.'' Kim said.
Angelique could not swallow the fact that what Kim told her was all that happened. There was something missing. Kimberly was holding something back. But what and why was she holding it back?
''Kimberly, what is it that you are not telling me about that night. We both know that you are leaving something out.'' Angelique said.
Kim just stared at her.
When Lynne opened the door she was happy to see Lucy and Kevin. She noticed that Lucy was acting strange even for Lucy, which was saying something! Lynne looked at Kevin as if to say..''Is she okay?''
''Lynne. Please sit down we have something to tell you. Are your sisters around they need to hear this too.'' Kevin said. Lucy tried to speak but could not.
''Yeah, they are in the kitchen. DESTINY! KRISSY!! Lucy and Kevin want to tell us something.'' Lynne yelled.
After her sisters were in the room Lynne turned to Lucy and asked.''What's up?''
''Lynne, You are going to find this hard to believe but Jannette and Daniel are not your parents.'' Lucy said.
''I know. I know I am adopted. But how did you know that unless--'' Lynne said.
''Lynne, I am your birth mother. You were adopted without my consent. My aunt arranged the whole thing.'' Lucy said.''I want to be your mother full time. I am proud that you are my daughter Bethany-Lynne. I love you.''
''I love you too Mom.'' Lynne said.''I was thinking about looking for you for along time but I thought you would reject me. I am grateful I am wrong.''
Chapter 23
The next day Lynne after a night of tossing and turning, decided to call Lucy and ask to meet her for a talk.
So many questions were running through her mind. Who was her father? Why did Lucy's Aunt give her up without asking Lucy first? She had to find out. The curiosity was killing her.
Lynne knew that Lucy loved her.
She loved Lucy too. She was not angry at Lucy for giving her up. Lynne figured that Lucy was young when she was born and could not afford to keep her.
Dialing Lucy's number she hoped that Lucy would be up to seeing her today. Then she remembered what Lucy told her right before she left,''Feel free to call me anytime.''
''Hello?'' Kevin answered.
''Kevin? Hey it's Ly. Is Lucy there?''
''Yeah hold on a minute Ly.'' Kevin said.''Lucy it's Lynne.''
Taking the phone from Kevin she spoke into it.''Hey you. What's up?''
''Not much. Can we meet for lunch at Kelley's at around 12:30? I have so many questions for you.'' Lynne asked.
''Sure that would be great.'' Lucy said.''Could I bring Doc with me?''
''Sure. One question though?''
''Yeah?''
''Would you mind if I called you mom?'' Lynne said with a tear escaping from her eye and rolling down her cheek before she could catch it.
Lucy with tears on her cheeks said,''Bethany-Lynne I would be honored if you called me mom. I love you so much.''
''I love you too, mom.'' Lynne said.''See you soon.''
''Bye-Bye'' Lucy said and hung up. She looked at Kevin through tear filled eyes and said.''She called me mom. My little girl called me mom.''
PCPD
Angelique was getting frustrated. Kim was not cooperating with her. Just then Comm. Mac Scorpio walked in and Kim smiled.
''Are you Robin's uncle Mac?'' Kim asked.
''Yes and you are?''
''I am her step sister, Kimberly Anderson. She has gone on and on about you.''
''Nice try but you are still going to tell Angelique what she wants to know.''
Kelly's
Lynne was already there and waiting for her mom and Kevin to show up. Just then the funniest thought crossed her mind. If her mom and Kevin got married, Kevin would be her step-father. She smiled at the thought.
Just then Lucy and Kevin walked in. Lynne stood up so they could see where she was and hugged her mom and Kevin. She could tell Lucy had been crying, truth is so had she. But these were happy tears.
After lunch had been ordered and served, Lynne decided to casually ask the hardest question in the world.
''Mom? Do you know who my father is?''
Lucy's back went rigid. She was not prepaired for THAT to be the first question her daughter asked her. But she remained calm.
''Sweet girl, your father was my boyfriend, in high school. His name is Danny. And I have not a clue as to where he is.''
''Does he know about me? Did he know I was given up for adoption?'' Lynne asked.
''No. I was four months pregnant with you when we graduated high school and I was not showing enough for him to notice. He left me after he got me to...'' Lucy said.
''What? After he what?''
''Lynne there is no easy way to tell you this but, Danny raped me. About four weeks before I found out I was pregnant with you.'' Lucy said.''Your father forced himself on me. Then he diched me the next day.''
''I am the result of a rape?'' Lynne asked putting the pieces of the puzzle together.
''Yes. But I did not care. I loved you from the moment I found out you were inside me.'' Lucy said thinking back to the day she had found out.
Just then the most personal question popped into Lynne's head.
''How could you feel good about something so bad that happened to you?''
But Lucy's reaction to the question was not at all what Lynne expected. Lucy remained calm. She was upset but she remained perfectly calm.
''It was a horrible way to get pregnant. But once it happened I couldn't change it. My aunt --your great aunt-- Charlene wanted me to have an abortion. But I did not believe in that. Even though it was a scary time in my life it was also the most wonderful experience. I knew you were created for a reason.'' Lucy said. ''Eventhough I was only 18 when I became pregnant I wanted to keep you even though I KNEW that I could not support myself and a baby.''
''Mom I am so sorry. I am surprised you even want to have anything to do with me after what I did to your life.'' Lynne sniffed.
''Wait a minute, Lynne. YOU did not do anything wrong. Your FATHER is the one responsible for ruining your mother's life.'' Kevin said.
''Besides, I thought it was the most interesting experiences I have ever been through. I read you a poem every night. One that I liked and you seemed to have liked it too because when ever I finished it you would kick me as if to tell me to read it again. The poem was in a book I read once and I loved it and wanted to teach it to you as soon as you were old enough.''
''But your aunt gave me up without your knowing it?'' Lynne said.
''I wrote you letters. I read to you. I sang and talked to you. By the way you did not like my singing.'' Lucy grinned.''Whenever I would start you would kick me. You were very picky.''
''Still am!'' Lynne said.''Do you still have the letters? I would love to read them.''
''I have them at home. I almost brought them with me. What do you say after lunch you and I go read those letters together?'' Lucy asked.
''Would love to!'' Lynne said.
Kelly's
Tamera was sitting alone in a booth in the farthest corner of the resteraunt. She was in a bad mood.
''Tamera?'' Sara asked.''What are you doing here? I thought you were on duty at the hospital?''
''It's my break. Sit down please. I need to talk to someone. My lover just broke up with me.''
''You mean Lynne's husband broke up with you and her? I always knew you were sneaky but this is low even for you Tammy.'' Sara said.
''Thanks now you made my bad day even worse.''
Later that afternoon...(Lucy's house)
Lynne looked around her mother's house. She was at peace with herself. She wanted to read those letters and hopefully learn more about her mom and what her pregnancy had been like.
Lucy returned to the room and was carrying a box of stuff. The box was marked BABY BETHANY'S THINGS.
Ly took one look at the box and tried her hardest not to cry.
Lucy had saved all of the things from her pregnancy and beyond that had to do with her.
She found a small white sweater in the box and held it to her. Lynne did not have to ask she knew that Lucy had made it. She smiled at her mother.
The next thing she found were the letters. She opened the first one and began to read...
May 12, 1981
Dearest Baby,
It's mommy. I love you. You started to kick today. The feel of you kicking is like nothing I have ever felt before. It is a wonderful feeling. I graduate from high school in two weeks. Nobody knows about you at school. I cannot wait to see you.

It is early morning of the Fourth of July. I am now six months pregnant with you. I got to hear your heart beat yesterday. I have heard it before but it affected me more this time because I was not worried about running into your father. I was beyond excited when I heard your heart. You are the biggest blessing in my life. Your uncle Colton gave me a box to put the letters that I write to you in. Decker, your other uncle has been my only ally in during this.

Baby,
I am now 8 1/2 months pregnant with you. Merry Christmas my sweet baby. You have been kicking like crazy lately. Mostly at night when I am trying to go to sleep. This morning I asked Decker if he wanted to be your God-Father. His face lit up and he said yes. Uncle Decker is a good man. You would like him.

Bethany-Lynne Coe,
This morning at 5:30 I went into labor. Then about five hours later my water broke and then two hours later I gave birth to you via a c-section. When I woke up they told me you had died. My heart broke into two parts. I named you Bethany-Lynne Coe and you were born at 12:30 pm at Jennings Memorial Hospital. I never got to hold you. I love you my baby.

Chapter 24
Angelique was getting frustrated. Kim was not cooperating with her. Just then Comm. Mac Scorpio walked in and Kim smiled.
''Are you Robin's Uncle Mac?'' Kim asked.
''Yes and you are?'' Mac said.
''I am her step-sister, Kimberly Jean Anderson. She has gone on and on about you.''
''Nice try, but you are still going to tell Angelique what she wants to know.'' Mac grinned.
''I was not trying to get out of telling her something that I have already told her a million times. I do not know anything about this Damian Smith character. You have to believe me Comm. Scorpio.'' Kim said.
''How long have you lived here in Port Charles, Ms. Anderson?'' Angelique asked.
''Three months why?'' Kim answered not seeing how that was relivant to the situation at hand.
''Then you must be telling the truth. Damian has been here longer and has had strict orders not to leave the state or make state-to-state calls. You are free to go. Sorry for the trouble Ms. Anderson.'' Angelique said.
''That is alright. I understand. You were just doing your job. And very well I might add. Good day Angelique. Nice to meet you Comm. Scorpio.''
''Likewise.'' Mac said.
As soon as Kim was out of earshot Angelique asked.''You don't really think that she was telling the truth do you?''
''Hard to tell. Are you trying to tell me you don't believe her?'' Mac asked.
''Skeptical. There is a piece of this puzzle that doesn't fit. I would like to be assigned to this case, Mac. Can I?'' Angelique asked.
''Sure. Who would you like to have as your partner?'' Mac asked.
Almost before he could get the sentance out Angelique replied, ''Detective Garcia.''
Kelley's

''Tamera?'' Sara asked.''What are you doing here? I thought you were on duty at the hospital.''
''I am allowed breaks you know.'' Tamera snapped.''I'm sorry I am in a bad mood. My lover just dumped me to go back to his wife.''
''Ryan went back to Lynne?'' Sara asked, with a smile.''I always knew that Ryan was too good for you. I could have told you that Ryan was not in love with you. In fact I tried, but you would not listen.''
''I know. But I was smitten and you know how I get when I am smitten with someone. My id takes over. But I really screwed up this time didn't I? I just hope Lynne does not find out that it was me with Ryan.'' Tamera said.
Just as she said that Kristen walked in. Her mouth dropped when she realized what Tamera had just said.''I hope that Lynne does not find out it was me with Ryan.''
''Oh she'll find out alright.'' Kristen thought to herself with a grin.''And with Lucy Coe as her mother, you will never live this down.''
Did you just say that you wanted to be paired up with Garcia?'' Mac asked.
''Yup. If you want to find out what Damian wants and to possibly catch him. You need someone who knows how he operates. That would be me. Then you would need a highly skilled and experienced detective. That would be Garcia.'' replied Angelique.''You do want to catch Damian don'tcha?''
''Yes you know I do, but are you sure you are ready for this big of an assignment? Angelique you have been here a little over two months and I am not sure you're ready for this.'' Mac said honestly.
''Didn't you hear a word I just said? I know how this guy works. I know all his modus operendi and how to get the lead on his plans. Come on Mac, if I was a guy you would give me this assignment in a minute. But just because I am a female I can't cut it right?'' Angelique said getting more and more frustrated by the minute.
''That is not true and you know it. I am just not sure you're trained enough to handle this big of a case.'' Mac said.''But if you really want it...it's yours.''
''Thanks Mac.''
''Your welcome. I will call Garcia and have him meet you in the interigation room in about 45 minutes.''
''Okay. I am going to Kelley's for lunch. I will be back in time.'' Angelique said and left.
Lucy's house
While Lynne was reading the letters that her mom had written to her, Lucy found a book of poetry that she forgot she had. She opened the book and found that poem that comforted her during the time she was in mourning for her daughter.
Snowflakes
Once a pretty snowflake
Fell on our window pane
But when I tried to catch it
It flew away again.
Today the sky was cloudy
And down the snowflake came
This time I didn't touch it
But it vanished just the same
''This is a poem I found on a card given to me after I gave birth to you and found out you had died.'' Lucy said.
Lucy proceeds to read it to Lynne and Lynne starts to cry and smiles through the tears...
''Mother, You don't have to wait anymore. Your snowflake is here and I am not going anywhere.''
''I am so glad, Lynne I am so glad.'' Lucy said hugging Lynne.
