Clinton-Sherman Fire Department

hires the best and most qualified people from the area. Upon a vacancy occurring

within the fire department, the Southwestern Oklahoma Development Authority

(our parent administrative entity) places ads within all area newspapers to

alert possible candidates that applications are being sought. Candidates are

directed to submit applications/resumes to the Oklahoma State Employment

Service, whose local offices are located in Clinton and Altus, Oklahoma.

When the prescribed time for applications has elapsed, individual applications

are screened for the interview process. After personnel interviews are completed,

prospective applicants are sent through a physical agility test, and medical workup,

to determine if their physical abilities meet N.F.P.A. guidelines.

Upon acceptance, individuals are placed in a probationary status for a period of

six months, after which they are upgraded to permanent status.

During the first two years of service with the department, individuals are then

Put through a very rigorous training schedule, during which they will achieve

Firefighter II status, attain First Responder certification, and participate in

ARFF training.

Individuals reaching these goals, may look forward to a long and rewarding

association with the Clinton-Sherman Fire Department, serving the

needs of the U.S. Airforce, western Oklahoma, and their fellow man.
