Marilyn (Burns) Potler
Class of 1956
Lincoln Community High School
Lincoln, Illinois
I appreciated your remarks about the Presbyterian
Church in Lincoln and
my folks. I
checked your webpage and found Janet Kerpan Southerlan's
comments about my
folks. My mother died in 1993 after a very long illness
with Alzheimer's
and Multi Infarct Dimentia -- her last seven years were
spent in nursing
homes. As Janet mentioned, my father remarried in 1994
(to Catharine
Corbin) and they moved from San Diego to Tempe, Arizona
in about 1996. Now
both my father (J.T. or John) Burns and Cathy are
in Friendship Village in
Tempe, Arizona. He has congestive heart failure
and has some mental
confusion at times as well as substantial hearing loss,
but still is
somewhat active and remembers Lincoln and the people there
quite well.
(Cathy, his second wife, has Parkinson's and substantial mental
confusion
as well as physical limitations.) Originally they had a lovely two
bedroom
apartment in Friendship Village but now they both reside in the
Health
Center (a nursing home) at Friendship Village, 2645 E. Southern
Avenue,
Tempe, AZ. 85282.
My brother, Tom (Thomas) Burns and his wife,
Carol, who also was from
Lincoln, reside in Yorba Linda, California. Their daughter Kristin married
the son (Douglas) of Steve and Kathy Allison around 1993. I think both
sets of parents were delighted that their children found a spouse with a
Lincoln background although each had been born and raised in Southern
California. Tom also has a son, Bryan, who is in Southern California and
still single.
I am married, to Seymour Potler, and we have a son,
Jonathan, who attends
Washington University in St. Louis. He is a sophomore
there and has had to adjust
to midwestern winters after spending all of his life
in southern Arizona.
You are welcome to add our e-mail address to your list of Lincoln High School
