The Reckoning

by the Night Breed

"Eyajo, what's the matter with Midir?" Vincent asked and then added "And this threat from the personals; is it for real?" "Well, it could be." Eyajo answered. What do you mean 'It could be', there are no such groups as vampire killers, are there?" Vincent asked, glancing once again over at Midir's room. "Vincent! Are there vampires?" Eyajo asked, watching Daniel carving aggressively in the table with his knife. "Well?" "Okay, then, there's no reason why there wouldn't be one or many groups of vampire killers." Eyajo said, then added, "We should take this to heart and watch our backs or, should I say, our hearts against these crazed fools." I stared, watching Daniel carving in the table, nothing would have taken my attention away as I could think of nothing but the answering machine, a haunting message, and Midir's blank fear as he went into his room. I stared aimlessly watching the whole room. My attention was drawn to Daniel carving; creating a battle zone of witch symbols in the tabletop. I had a constant fix on his movements. There was nothing to steal away my attention from what he was doing. My journalistic skills seemed sparce at best, this trying to prove the existance of vampires was getting to be more than I could imagine. I took this on because of the romantic feeling it gave me. But for the first time in my life, from learning of these people, I was completely afraid to be in this room. It was like something out of a horror movie. I stepped back and walked over toward the answering machine, while Eyajo and Daniel talked amongst themselves. Midir was alone in his room. But I stood motionless at the window, looking out into the street and over at the answering machine. I paused in thought. What is the voice behind the message and what truths surround this life threatening personal ad, printed about the Astro Vamps. I couldn't really compose my thoughts anymore. I was confused. I didn't know what was happening. I stood there thinking as it kept running through my mind, I knew I would have to find out more about these so-called vampire killers, but Midir, was up to something. This seemed to frighten him more than the rest of the gang. I knew I couldn't ask Daniel or Eyajo about the answering machine. They might have known, but something told me that this response I had to retrieve from Midir himself. Now was not the time for this, but I would not forget what I must ask Midir. I turn to Eyajo to ask him: "What's Midir up to in his room?" "He's preparing a magical ritual for all of us, to protect us from*well, things that might harm vampires", Eyajo said with a twisted grin." "What do you mean protect us? What kind of ritual?" I said, not finding what Eyajo said too amusing. Halted by dismay, his didn't seem too amusing anymore, although I don't think anybody was anything but serious. I walked over to Midir's room and proceeded to open his door. When with unexpected speed, Daniel slammed his fist against the door. He looked at me with cold eyes and said "We must not disturb the Reckoning." To be continued...
