Editorial: Fact & Fiction
Monty crosses the Keep's grounds and approaches Lady Tatanka and the new Lady Knight Lance. Tatanka briefly describes the duties Lance had eagerly accepted and swiftly completed but days before. The Lady of the Land then takes her leave to attend to other matters.
Lance ::salutes::
Monty: Allo! From what Lady Tatanka has told me you are up for a promotion this week...thanks for the help!
Lance: Well, thanks for the opportunity! I love to get involved!
Monty: The Knights are very inactive now. Sir Tigg has been away over a week but I know he is busy. There are opportunities abounding for leadership at this time.
Lance: I'm definitly interested... just not very experienced or knowledgable.
Format look familiar? The above was taken from an IM and really only needed a little editing for the IC conversation to come out. If you are involved in the NoU FF/BBRPG or just wish to see the complete conversation there, link from our calendar below!
I've awaited this IRL/IC transformation's coming and, as such, will now call this part of my editorial 'realm' over 'website' developments. Its only a matter of course as we move more and more toward our Union becoming a 'home away from home', an arcane fantasy world where we might briefly escape the mundane real one!
This is clearly exemplified in our swiftly increasing involvement in live action role play, thanks largely to the LARPA. With an article to follow, it is sufficient to say here there will soon be some very real fantasy going on in our Union!
Our 'universe' has seen some long awaited but well worth the wait additions this week with Doppleganger's GURPS Realm of Adaro now located in Union West and the 'galaxy' of Illean in GF Quadrant I. See below for a more detailed story!
Also I have completed the first phase of adding all our past newsletters since our return to the net to the Library. While all the original 'portal runes' have yet to be added it definitely increases the 'real feel' of it...please remember to talk quietly while there!
With portals in mind I proudly complete my basic collection and the first cycle of game reviews for Blizzard Entertainment. So they have only three gaming 'worlds'...when they are as good, in overall quality and sales quantity, as these who needs more?
Yes, Diablo!!! Whatever inhibitions I had for the game (and that was largely its name...I thought the PC was the bad guy!) are gone and I gladly present it to our Union as a VERY easily transferrable mythos to our own!
Consider this outright fate but I was browsing our local Best Buy (again!) and came across the original Diablo for $10!!! Considering the recent interest shown in the game by many at the new Tavern I decided to give it a try...thanks everyone!!!
So you are not the devil, a demon, demoniac or whatever but a person sworn to destroy the same! Still it is recommended for mature players, made abundantly clear in the opening scene where a crow picks the eyeball from a corpse! ::shudder::
The gameplay is much the same and the graphics are both great and gruesome! Blood gushers, amputations and decapations are rampant as you fight fiercly to acertain these are happening to your foes, not you! While the story line is engrossing, well planned and easy to follow let's face it...here's another 'hack and slay holiday'!
So who's complaining? Character development is fast and very much up to the player...add more strength for fighting skills at level ups or more intelligence for the fantastic array of spells, which have the most awesome visual effects!
In a departure from Blizzard's WarCraft and StarCraft series you are responsible for a single PC in Diablo. The strategic becomes tactical. Multiplay of this one is clearly best suited for SWAT and Delta Force protocols and I am seriously interested in trying it out! Any takers???
Back to mythos, did someone say portals??? They are cast from scrolls or by more masterful mages here...sound familiar? Yes, these are used in the game to get back and forth between the dungeons and the town but remember you now may teleport directly there from Union!
Already a Monty fave, I hope many of you will seek out this game then join me on some nice friendly (and FREE!) 'search and destroy' missions! Just be careful around the corners, standard two by two formation, move out!

Lance: One thing... i'm not sure i understand that saluting thing... what exactly is expected of me there?
Monty: OOC just type ::salutes:: IC it will be as it is written in the Knights' HB
Lance: Ah! and i do that all the time?
Monty: No, just on meeting and leaving...and I don't mind if you don't in IM's but it is considered common military courtesy in 'public'. In LARP events it is really a bonding experience to hear a loud 'thump' as everyone salutes!

LARPA Update
CoUH is a Member of LARPA !!!!!
I never thought a free membership to an RPG organization, of which we have many, could have so profound an effect on us!
The LARPA has done just that! With their TON of free resources, including complete games, the CoUH will soon begin 'dinner theatre' RPG's, and it seems Goth/Vamp will forgo the larger scale 'Swords and Sorcery' scenarios we have become so adept in, which are still slated for Spring 2002...a mere 8 months away!
We have had much of the LARPA concepts in our non-combat scenarios but just perusing their site I have discovered many more 'theatrical devices' that will surely improve Union live games!
And so the adventure begins...we have five interested local folks who I'm playing phone tag with but it is clear all are interested in many aspects of LARPG's! With the three of us already at CoUH we hope that makes eight (but new folks can be fickle!) More news as it becomes available!

Our first CoUH flyer was distributed to our three local RPG stores, two costume shops and paintball arena. While no partridge in a pear tree was found all these businesses eagerly accepted our adds and several have called expressing their interest!

Doppleganger's Adaro & Illean
Illean Realms is the brainchild of our own Doppleganger, who has been with us since our return to the net! He said it was coming and frankly I'd nearly
forgotten about it but here she be! In brief, it is a 'galaxy' all
its own, rich with dragons and gods, and uses the AD&D 3rd ed rules.
For our beginners and/or GURPS players he has also brought us The
Fantasy World of Adaro To quote him, it is a "dark and gloomy place filled with sentient spiders, amphibian humanoids, snake men, vampires, and lycanthropes."
I've visited both sites but am more than impressed!!! They are already on our maps for the perusal of all...if you are interested in playing get them...space will be limited!

Everyone has noticed the strange Mage who refers to himself as Mayhem lurking
about Union's gate. Who is this man? Why is he here? Herein lies a mystery
for all who wish to search for clues to who this man truly is and what omens
his appearance brings Union. Your only hint: The answers are in Union,
somewhere! Meet in the Tavern (OOC) and Keep (IC) to discuss your findings. An IRL prize will be awarded the member(s) who might solve this enigma!

This position currently requires less than three hours work per week and
entails:
High Priest/Priestess: This Post requires assisting Monty in the rebuilding
of the Palace Temple and overseeing the recruitment and training of incoming
priests. Some ceremonial duties may include conducting marriages and
christenings. Applicant should be of sound moral character and tolerant of
the beliefs of others.
Union Knights: Always 'hiring'! please read the handbook at the Library and
now in the Knights' Keep ('runes' above). If ye have the metal and courage
to join us, please do! No duties required but rank may be gained swiftly
for: Tavern Hosts, FFRPG Proctors, Game Masters and Recruiters,to name a
