31. July, 2001 : Slash On Late Show With Craig Kilborn |
Last night Slash made an appearance on "The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn." The two chatted about GN’R, Michael Jackson, and how Slash got his first guitar. Slash was asked a couple of questions as a part of "Yambo" and got them correct. The first was about "melted snow" with the answer being "Slush" and the second was "the shaft that connects two wheels" with the answer being "Axle". For his win, Slash recieved a bouquet of roses which he handed to the other guest. The show featured a part from the video, "Shine", and the band played "Serial Killer".
28. July, 2001 : 21 Questions With Keri Kelli |
Metal-Sludge has a series of 21 Questions with Snakepit's Keri Kelli. Some interesting topics there including the noteable fact that Slash has quit drinking and turned into a health nut.

18. July, 2001 : Duff Show Review |
This is a short but very cool review from Casey Q of the waxlrose@yahoogroups list:
From: Casey Q
Just got back from seeing Duff's band Loaded play at
the Planet Hot Rod near Seattle. WOW! What a great
fuckin' show! Duff looks really, really good. He Looks
Heatly. They started out w/ Attitude. Which is from
"The Spaghetti Incident?". I guess they're going to
Japan next week. Something about an album coming out
there. Duff remembered me from the last show I went to
7 months ago. I guess it was my GnR tattoo's. I asked
him if he's seen anyone besides Axl w/ his(Duff's)
face on their arm. Since I do have the Appetite cross
on my arm. He liked my GnR tattoo's. He signed the set
list I got from the other guitarist. And when he did
he wrote Duff, then below, GnR then below, Loaded. I
thought that was cool. He played guitar, and sang. Not
bass. But here's the set list....
Attitude
=====
I was told by Duff's bassist that he has no problem w/
GnR. He said that Duff doesn't mind talking about it
or anything. He did write GnR below his autograph on
Saturday.

7. July, 2001 : Snakepit NJ Show/Interview |
Knac reviewed and put up a short interview with Snakepit after their Old Bridge, NJ show at the Birch Hill Nite Club. A very cool one as always.
Check out the Knac article at knac.com or the articles section.

6. July, 2001 : Beta Interview |
As you know from the previous interview she gave, Beta is a pleasant subject to read. Here she gives another one in which she discusses her family, career, and life as well as Axl and the band. From what foods they like to what movies they watch, but there's also possible mention of an estimated ready date of CD (assuming the plans go through well) before Christmas. Check out the English translation in the articles section.

5. July, 2001 : MTV Poll... GN'R and Michael Jackson |
For the interested, there's a poll at MTV.com asking which of the oft-delayed and much-anticipated albums will come out first. It's "Chinese Democracy" and "Invincible".
News Poll: Michael Jackson Vs. Guns N' Roses ... Which Album Will Hit Stores First? From the "I'll Believe It When I Hear It" Department, Michael Jackson's label has announced that his first new studio effort in a decade, Invincible, will hit stores September 25 (see "Michael Jackson Previews 15 Invincible Tracks). The only album to miss more release dates than Jackson's is another top-secret recording, the long-awaited new Guns N' Roses opus, Chinese Democracy. With Guns recently bumped from June to sometime later this year, you have to wonder who is going to win this clash of the reclusive titans? Whose record do you think will actually make it into stores first?
3. July, 2001 : Very Short RIVER Review |
"The Guitar Magazine" (June 2001) has a very short piece on Izzy's album RIVER. I typed it up below:
"If it sounds good, don't screw with it!" declares a speech bubble from The Iz on the CD's cover. And indeed the guitars do: scraggly, juicy, hot and toothsome - exhibiting a far more classic-rock, vintage-toned edge than his former Guns N' Roses colleagues ever allowed him. Yes, his vocals are weak in patches (that doubled-tracks trick pulls him out a few times) but it's a fired-up riff-fest no mistaking, and plenty of fun along with it.
30. June, 2001 : Gilby Clarke News |
Gilby's official site has been upgraded recently. You can now get a direct link at gilbyclarke.com. There's a lot of images now, including an in-depth discography going all the way back. It's heavy in flash though so if you aren't flash-enabled, see about getting the program free at macromedia.com.
In news, the site reports Gilby's new solo record is complete but without a title as of yet. It's to come out on JVC records in Japan and Spitfire Records in the US and Europe. Guests includde: Clem Burke (Blondie), Eric Singer (Kiss), Brian Tichy (Ozzy), Brent Fitz (Union) on drums. Johnny Blackout (Snakepit) and Stefan Adika (Starfuckers) on bass.
30. June, 2001 : Spears' Agents Still Gunning For Slash |
Looks like they just don't give up! Works are continuing in trying to get Slash to perform in a Michael Jackson tribute with... get this... Brittney Spears. Reportedly, Slash is doing his best to keep away from the deal with Spears while paying tribute to an artist he has worked with and respects very much.
26 Jun 2001
Guns 'n' Roses guitarist Slash has signed up to play at the Michael Jackson tribute concerts in September. He's always admired Jacko and featured on his single Black and White.
Slash was thrilled when he received a call asking him to play, but he's trying to steer clear of a certain teen pop queen: "I guess I'm up there with a couple of other people like Whitney Houston but somehow they keep trying to get me to pair up with Britney Spears and I've been trying to avoid it! 'N Sync are going to be there so it'll be interesting company. But Michael's there and he asked me to do my thing so that's cool."
Michael's long-awaited new album is due out just before the concerts but Slash doesn't think it's that important for Jacko to reclaim his title of King of Pop: "He's the genuine article. Whether it's going to blow everybody else off the charts is not really of concern to me because I know whatever he puts on there at least will be heartfelt and real and whether everybody picks up on it or not is down to them. Nobody can
ever predetermine that."

25. June, 2001 : Snakepit's Clifton Park Show! |
As most of you know, Snakepit is out on tour... back with a veagence after Slash's sudden illness. Mymichelle, NovemberRain, and several others were at the special opening show in Clifton Park, New York. Mymichelles put together a very special and kick-ass page where you can relive the experience from the eyes of several fans. It includes stories of encounters with the band, other fans, as well as plenty of awesome images. A great page you don't want to miss out on!
22. June, 2001 : Live Era Goes Platinum |
This excellent news also comes from Jeff of the DNB list:
Live Era has been certified Platinum by the RIAA. It's not showing in
their database yet, but I got to see the award this past weekend.
It looks really cool. It has the Live Era cover in the middle, with
platinum albums to the right and left. There is one Live Era CD in each
bottom corner. The Live Era title is screened on the glass over top of
the album cover and has the standard plate describing what the award is
and who it's presented to. Very cool looking RIAA award. I wonder if any "additional musicians" or "backing musicians" will be getting an award :)
22. June, 2001 : Duff Dates |
It seems the previous news about Duff's album can't be totally confirmed yet, however Jeff Boerio of the Dust N' Bones List does have some data on Duff's tour he got from none other than Duff himself:Hi all, Duff just gave me the dates and locations of his shows in Japan. Here they are: Firewire Tour (I can't remember the other bands on the bill, but I've not heard of them):
7/27 Tokyo
He will also appear live at a couple Tower Records shops:
7/30 Tokyo (Shibuya)
He'll also be playing a couple gigs around Seattle, and he'll get me those
dates/locations when he gets them.

14. June, 2001 : Axl Makes Appearance At NBA Finals/Fan Coverage/Images |
Axl Rose was in attendance at Game 4 in the series between the Lakers and the 76ers. After the show, the KNBC4 sportscaster Fred Roggins took a few moments to chat with Axl on TV. Everyone who's seen it describes Axl as in good spirits, excited by the game, and leaner than before. This came thanks to Paula of the gnrunlimited board:
OK, finally got to watch it - just a few minutes long, and they only talk about the game. Interview was done in Philadelphia, outside the Lakers locker room, after they had beaten the Sixers (Lakers up 3 games to 1 now in a best of 7 series). From what I understand, it was only on KNBC channel 4 in L.A. Fred Roggin is the local sports guy (he's a hammy comic sort - Axl smiling a lot throughout this ;) ). Axl mentions Allen Iverson - he's on the Sixers, great player, but he's done some controversial things in the past (namely hardcore rap lyrics, and pot - oh, and he's got some tattoos ;) ), and of course the media won't let it die so he feels misunderstood about now. Anyway, here's a rough transcript of the brief interview (my comments in [ ]):
Fred Roggin: Do you know who this is? The lead singer of Guns N' Roses, Axl Rose. Wow. What did you think?
[Axl sorta laughing at Fred's dramatic introduction ;]
Axl: I thought it was amazing, it's a lot of fun. This was my first basketball game ever, in person.
FR: This is your first game ever in person?
Axl: Yeah - to go see it live, yes.
FR: Coming in, were you rooting for the Lakers or the Sixers?
Axl: The Lakers are my favorite team, but I'm a huge Allen Iverson fan, so I'm rooting for the underdog, 'cos the Lakers are like, a given. So it's like - I win either way with this one.
FR: Now Axl, you sat out there, you experienced the fans....
Axl: But I want the season to go longer - they should extend the series - make it like a 10 game series.
[I think he really wants the Sixers to win ;]
FR: Now I gotta tell you something very seriously - I know it's your first basketball game ever, and I know it's all very exciting, but when all is said and done the season will have been long enough - it's a very long season. Now let me ask you, what did you think of these fans? People say it's a tough crowd, it's a rough crowd - what did you think?
Axl: I thought it was alright, I thought it was pretty mellow... I thought it was nice.
FR: Well we think you're very nice for coming over.
Axl: I'm rooting for both teams - when it's exciting, it's exciting, you know. I mean you can't take anything away from Shaq or Kobe, you just can't.
FR: Axl, thank you for stopping by, I really appreciate your time, glad you enjoyed your first game.
Axl: Thank you very much.
And that was it. He seemed really sweet, and down to earth - more so than I remember.
Fashion report (with apologies to those who don't care about such things ;) ): Axl was wearing a long white t-shirt (Nike), didn't really get to see much of the pants, but from what I did see my guess is they were trainers. Hoop earring in the left ear, two big diamond studs in the right, with a couple tiny hoops up top, big sport watch, could see some sort of necklace under the shirt. As for his figure, I didn't see anything close to an obvious paunch, a double chin, or anything like that. ;) He was clean shaven, hair still the dark reddish brown color, parted down the middle. He's got amazing skin. Great cheekbones. I thought he looked really young, with the exception of his eyebrows - still his natural color, so they look way too light with the darker hair color he has now (personally, I would like to see him go back to something closer to his natural red color 'cos I think it goes much better with his pale skin, but I suppose it's none of my business ;) ).
Can't think of anything else to say (hopefully I'll be laughing about this months from now, when there's tons of new interviews ;) ), but if there's any way to put the video on the site, just let me know and I'll send on a copy asap. :)
Anacs of the gnrbar message board also gave a review, sending out the initial report on the news of Axl's televised appearance:
oh my god!!!!!!!!!!!!Axl was at the game. He spoke in the after game show. Only about the game. He looks great. I'M FREAKING OUT!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS HIS FIRST GAME HE SAID
Yes, he said he is a huge Iverson fan although he likes the Lakers so he was cheering for both but little bit more for the 76ers because they are "the underdogs" He was shave and wearing a white t-shirt, he looks relax and he was smiling. His hair looks like in Rio and I think he has been losing some weight. Did anyone else see him?

4. June, 2001 : Tour Update From MTV Europe |
This is from MTV Europe
New Guns N´ Roses Tour Dates
There´s good news for Guns´n´Roses fans! Reports are suggesting the band have rescheduled some of the dates on their postponed European tour. The band were due to tour Europe in June but there was a delay because because guitarist Buckethead was suffering from "internal haemorrhaging".
Buckethead is expected to take part in the rescheduled dates and Guns n´ Roses will now play:
Arnhem Gelredome (December 2), Oslo Spektrum (5), Stockholm The Globe (7), Helsinki Hartwall Arena (9), London Docklands Arena (13-14), Glasgow SECC (16), Manchester Evening News Arena (18), Birmingham NEC (19).
2001-06-01
Thanks to Cady for this info.
31. May, 2001 : More On Reschedule/Buckethead |
Guns N' Roses has begun rescheduling the summer European tour canceled due to health concerns relating to guitarist Buckethead. Merck Mercuriadis of Sanctuary Music Management tells Billboard.com that Buckethead has been diagnosed as having a gastric ailment by one doctor and tuberculosis by another, and that the shows will not resume until the winter to allow Buckethead adequate time to recover.
Source: Billboard.com thanks to QUNate of the gnrbar.com.
The trek was set to begin June 1 at the Rock Im Park festival in Nuremberg, Germany. As for Guns N' Roses' eternally delayed new Interscope/Geffen/A&M album, Mercuriadis said there was no update as to when the set may see the light of day.
31. May, 2001 : GNR Reschedules European Tour/Slash Tour Update |
Guns N' Roses Reschedule European Dates For December; Slash Tour Update
May 30, 2001, 12:15 pm PT
After canceling its European tour because Buckethead was allegedly ill (allstar, May 10), Guns N' Roses have rescheduled the dates.
While the exact details have not been confirmed by the GNR camp, various European ticketing sites are listing the following dates: Arnhem, The Netherlands, Dec. 2; Oslo, Norway Dec. 5; Stockholm, Sweden Dec. 7; London, England, Dec. 13 and 14; Glasgow, Scotland, Dec. 16; Manchester, England, Dec. 18; and Birmingham, England, Dec. 19. More are expected to be added with the final tally being close to the 14 shows originally scheduled for June.
Most speculate that the reason the tour was initially canceled was because the vocals are still not done for the band's highly anticipated next album, Chinese Democracy, which is supposed to come out this summer.
Meanwhile, former GNR guitarist Slash is also rescheduling his canceled Snakepit tour dates. The guitarist blew off his opening slot with AC/DC when he came down with pneumonia in March (and we believe him).
The hatted one will now be doing a one-off show at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles June 1, and will hit the road on the first leg of a headlining tour beginning June 15 in Clifton Park, NY. Eleven dates are confirmed through June 29 in Pittsburgh.

30. May, 2001 : Izzy Interview From Hard Rock (France) |
FROM HARD ROCK MAGAZINE JUNE 2001 (FRANCE)
Q: Does GNR success made loose contact with reality?
Izzy: Yes a little bit. I didn't know what to expect, I just wanted to play in a rock band... None of us even thought that one day we will be playing out of LA. And I can assure you that as we were really simple people, there were no way to prepare us to success. The only rock side that we used to have was to be stoned. Our kind of life so strange, and when we started having some success, it only became worst. When we came back from tour, we all bought a house, and we got stoned even more... But one day when I wasn't stoned I thought :" Izzy, something is wrong, we are fucking around." That was in 88 or 89. I took the decision to go back to Indiana and see my friends... Before the tour we didn't have money, when we came back, our bank account were full, everybody wanted to sell us drugs, weapons, crazy stuff.
Q: Before the recording of UYI 1 & 2 , did you ever think of leaving the band?
Izzy: Yes, from time to time, but not every day. It's true that sometimes the situation was so "grotesque"; Axl was leaving the stage after 2 songs and I used to think:" Hey we look like stupid assholes". But I wasn't convinced yet to leave. Music was still uniting us. Slash, Steven, Duff and I were living very close to each others and we were playing a lot. So I wanted to do another album, and that what we did. It was a double... or a triple I don't even know.
Q: What was the last straw that made you leave GNR?
Izzy: After the first leg of the UYI tour, Axl wanted to make me sign a contract which meant that I was less involved and less paid. I couldn't believe it. This contract was coming from someone I grew up with for fuck's sake. We always considered GNR as a best friend band, and now Axl was telling me:" now we are doing business." Why should I carry on? Where was the fun? That was the last drop. But other things happen before like in Donnington where to kids died during the show. What the fuck is that? Is that rock n' roll? To read in an airport newspaper that kid died during one of your gig? What the fun to play in stadium every night and to start a riot in Saint-Louis because your singer is fucked up? You come to a point when none of all this is funny anymore. Axl wasn't doing his front man job anymore. As for the others, there were all stoned and wasted, I wasn't even able to make them learn covers: We could have play covers while Axl was away waiting for him to come back, entertaining the kids. No. We came up with drum solo. What's more boring than a drum solo???
Q: You were his best friend. Was he listening to you?
Izzy: When he started earning big money and getting laid, he was out of reach. Everybody was so stone. I was able to control myself, but I was looking at Steve, Slash and Duff killing themselves in front of me. I don't even remember if Steven was still in the band by the way. What was this bullshit anyway? A musician is sack from GNR because is doing to much drugs when you that drug was the main occupation of this band? Me I stopped all that one year before I quit. So during that years I was a witness of them trying to kill themselves. I didn't wanted to be an accomplice to that; I didn't wanted to wake near Slash's dead body. Thinking that I was indirectly responsible for that, so I quit GNR.
Q: But you came back later on to replace Gilby?
Izzy: Simple. I was back in Indiana, living quietly when Axl rang me.
Q: Do you still see Steven, Slash and Duff?
Izzy: Yes, I spoke to them on the phone three days ago, I even have lunch with Steven last week. He is clean now but physically and mentally... Slash is well, so is Duff: he just did the Hawaiian marathon! A fucking marathon. Not bad for a guy whose pancreas exploded because he was drinking 3 1/2 liters of vodka every day? He is my band by the way, that is very cool. The only who doesn't speak to anybody is Axl. He doesn't call the people back on the phone. I like to ride my bike and I know where he lives. Once in 1995, I went there and ring the door bell, he opened the door, we took each other in our arms, he made me visit his house and we had a chat. Cool. We called back each other after that, but one day the old Axl was back; He was taking notes on the phone of what I was telling him, and then, no news. Since then I go to his place, that makes me laugh: I ring the door bell and there is always a bouncer telling me he is not there! I am happy anyway that he did two gigs in Vegas and Rio in the beginning of the year. I am especially happy that his microphone did work properly. Who knows, He might have left the stage (he laughs).
He asked me if I could help them out for a few shows. I asked where were those shows and he said Istanbul, London, Paris, Athens... You think I would have hesitated. I like to travel and see new country. Meanwhile, Alan Niven, my manager, who was GNR manager at a time, told me that the band was still owing me money. I told me to accept if they were give me my money. It is only after that I realise that Alan will have 20% of the money ( he laugh). I did those shows and didn't have a lot of fun because Slash and Duff were still stoned. I don't want to call myself a saint, I did it all myself, but when you are not stone there is nothing funny in seeing your friends like that.

17. May, 2001 : Slash Attends Black Crowes RockWalk Induction |
Oasis' Noel Gallagher, Slash, Bruce Kulick of Kiss fame, guitarist Jennifer Batten, actor-musician Jared Leto, producer Don Was, and KLOS DJ Jim Ladd came out to the Guitar Center's Sunset Boulevard sidewalk for the induction of the Black Crowes into the famous RockWalk on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles Monday (May 14).
On tour in support of their latest release Lions, the Crowes made use of their time during a two-date stint in Los Angeles to immortalize their handprints on the famous walkway. Showing his Brotherly Love Tour support was Gallagher, who coyly came out and posed for photos with the band while gazing at the freshly imprinted block of cement.
17. May, 2001 : New Book Features Guns n' Roses |
Fargo Rock City is a book by the Akron Beacon music critic. It is a detailed account of the heavy metal/glam rock bands he adored as a teenager growing up in the eighties in North Dakota. He writes as passionately & eloquently about his fondess for GNR & AFD imparticular as any writer ever has. It is the most accurate & thorough anaylisis of Guns, & especially Axl's, place in rock history. While he provides a detailed account of many bands from that era, it is clear he has a special fondness for GNR. In rating the best albums of that era based on a point sytem he refers to as Jacks (money), he gives his 2nd pick, Ozzy's Blizzard of Ozz, 900 jacks. AFD is given 5,001. All fans should read this book. I stumbled upon it at Walden's, so i am sure it is fairly easy to find.

2. May, 2001 : Ozzfest Trying To Recruit Guns N' Roses |
The following article is from NME.com thanks to "Shakermaker69." In the article, there's mention of how Ozzy Osbourne's wife has been trying to recruit GN'R for Ozzfest, who are reportedly reluctant to play under an event named after another musician. I've included the entire article as it's also interesting how they're pushing to recapture Donnington as the home of metal once again.
KELLY'S ZEROES
OZZY OSBOURNE's wife and manager SHARON has launched a withering broadside at STEREOPHONICS, accusing them of preventing OZZFEST and BLACK SABBATH from reclaiming CASTLE DONINGTON as "the home of metal".
Speaking last night at the London premiere for 'We Sold Our Souls To Rock And Roll', a documentary detailing last year's Ozzfest tour of the US, Osbourne explained what led to the decision to hold the British Ozzfest this year at the Milton Keynes Bowl.
"We had tried to to take it to Donington, to make it the home of metal again, but Stereo-whatever-the fuck-they're-called have booked it," she said. "And they have a clause in their fucking contract preventing anyone else from playing there this summer."
Osbourne added that Ozzfest was likely to return to Donington in August 2002. She also said she had been in talks with Guns N'Roses to include them on Ozzfest, but they, like many big acts, were reluctant to play under someone's else's banner.

14. April, 2001 : Rumors Of CD Release Date |
It should be emphasized that it's just a rumor but according to a French site, "Musik", Guns N' Roses' album "Chinese Democracy" is due out May 28. One Gn'R fan says it's a respectable site but we all remember the other controversies of the past when music sites tried estimating a release date. But if you would like to check it out, you can find it at the following link:

11. April, 2001 : Gilby's Latest Album Complete |
Amidst completion and release of the album with Shameless, it seems that this weeks Brave Radio ezine has proclaimed Gilby's new album is complete as well. This following information came passed on from Glitter on the waxlrose@yahoogroups list.
GILBY CLARKE Completes Solo #4!
They also wish Izzy Stradlin a birthday wish for April 8th
Former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Gilby Clarke has just completed his
fourth, as yet untitled solo album. Clarke also produced the brand new L.A.
GUNS album, Man In The Moon. During an exclusive interview, L.A. Guns
guitarist Tracii Guns gave BW&BK the scoop: "We just finished the new Gilby
Clarke album. Spitfire accepted it, they're going to buy it off Gilby. It's
cool, it's his heaviest record. It's a pretty tough little album. Eric
Singer (KISS) played on it. Brian Tichy (ex-PRIDE & GLORY) played on it. I
played on a couple of things. I played on a
really great song called 'Alien'. I think I only played on two. Gilby made
a good record. I would imagine a late summer release."

10. April, 2001 : GNR Madagascar Single? |
Apparently 97.7 HTZFM of Southern Ontario is playing Madagascar on their station. As of now it's unclear whether this is the Rio Soundboard Version (hmmm... wonder where they got it ;) or an actual single release by Guns N' Roses. The rumor machine is apparently running full gear but it does appear the station is playing the track. Question is whether it's the first new GN'R single or just a bootleg. It's been known that some listeners such as Jonathan Lee have been submitting recordings to their radio stations to get GNR on the air. But we're just gonna have to keep our ears and eyes opened for now.

9. April, 2001 : Slash Among 100 Greatest All-Time. |
In the special collectors edition of Guitar World, called "Guitar Legends," Slash is listed as among the "100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time." They don't really give a ranking but Slash is listed in the category of "Lords Of Hard Rock." Here's the article: Slash
"I've never been one of those guys who wants to solo for longer than he should. My solos complement the song, which is the most important part." -SLASH
In the late Eighties, Slash almost single-handedly slew the shred phenomenon, reminding guitarists that hard rock was invented by Page and Beck, not Paganini and Bach. With his rebellious, street-tough image and down-and-dirty playing style, Slash became a hard rock guitar icon, playing raunchy riffs and aggressive, blues-inspired leads that flattened legions of shred virtuosos like a permed poodle haircut in a rainstorm. "All the advanced rock guitar players made things really complicated," says Slash. "I wasn't intimidated by any of that shit, ever. My basic roots come from a certain hard rock background. You can do a million things with that base."
EQUIPMENT: '85 Gibson Les Paul Standard; Marshall 100-watt Jubilee heads; Crybaby wah-wah
Slash's playing showed a new generation of guitarists that emotion is as important as chops, paving the way for the emergence of grunge and the Nineties punk rock revival. In the midst of Strat mania in the Eighties, he revived interest in the Les Paul. Although Slash is often pigeonholed as a hard rocker, he has made guest appearances on records by a diverse range of artists, including Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Paul Rodgers, Carole King and Michael Jackson.

7. April, 2001 : Izzy Promoting New Album, Mentions On TotalRock. |
This piece came from Nazareth of the gnrbar and features a dj talking about meeting Izzy and how Izzy talked about how his songs have always been simple but usually got processed back in Guns N' Roses.
I was just listening to totalrock (a digital radio station) they had pretty tied up playing , and after the song the dj,mick wall , said that was the real guns n roses , with izzy stradlin on rhythm guitar and lead vocals , a song he wrote all by himself when he was still an important member of the band, he then went on to say that izzys new album "river" is the totalrock album of the week. He said he met izzy last week and while they were talking izzy was playing the guitar and showing him various things one of which being pretty tied up , he said his solo stuff was far simpler that gnr's stuff , and all his gnr songs started simple untill he handed them over to the rest of the band.
He also said he will be playing in the uk at some point in the future , and mick wall hopes to get an interview , so does this mean izzy will tour for this album?
mick wall finished off by saying ,will gnr get back together again ?, we'll just have to wait and see.

5. April, 2001 : Slash Is Better |
This Came From Linda's Snakepit list:

From: LScott@Snakepit.Org
Subject: Slash's (almost) Back
Last night I had a chance to talk to Slash, and he is really
anxious to get the tour going again. He said he was working
on the next leg of the tour. No matter what, he wouldn't
even give me a hint as to where they are going. Maybe he
will announce it himself soon. He did say he would be doing
some interviews in awhile. And he also said that the band
will do rehearsals before they go out again. When I saw
him here when our show was cancelled, I thought he might
not be back for a long time, but I guess getting to a doctor
and following what he says has really helped. He sounds just
like he did before all this. And he was very busy with that
fan mail. They had found about 100 pieces of mail at the old
address, so he is doing all that first. Then they will start
on what is around from the new address. And he thanked everyone
for all those cards and notes while he was so sick.
3. April, 2001 : Izzy's Album Ride Out In May |
This is fresh from the news at Sanctuary Records only today:
NEW RELEASE FROM IZZY STRADLIN - FORMER GUITARIST FOR GUNS N ROSES
RIVER
RELEASE DATE: 21st May 2001
CATALOGUE NUMBER: SANCD076
Izzy Stradlin needs no introduction. As the main songwriter and musical force in one of the biggest selling (as well as probably the most controversial) rock n' roll bands of all time, Guns & Roses, his classic songs of that era and immense musical talent speaks for itself.
In 1991 Izzy left to pursue solo projects and the first self-titled Izzy Stradlin & The Ju Ju Hounds album appeared the following year. In between times there have been other records (notably a Japanese only release), but now he is back with his strongest solo set ever.
River contains 10 all original songs, featuring guest musicians Ian McLagan and long time collaborator Rick Richards of the Georgia Satellites. Recorded over the past 12 months in studios around the United States, it reflects Izzy's talent for absorbing new musical styles and meshing them with the best three chord rockers!

3. April, 2001 : Slash On The Mend |
From Linda Scott's Snakepit List:
I talked to Slash last night, and he just sounds so great! He was peppy and
spoke clearly without coughing. He says he feels very good, but he is
still recuperating. The tiredness comes and goes, but he is definitely on the
mend. It sounded as though he was going to be off all of April, too. He
said he cut back a little on the cigarettes and hasn't been drinking. He is
trying hard to do what the doctor says so that he will bounce back quickly.
It was so good to hear him sound like he used to. He said his days seem
long to him. He was about to watch a movie on tv. He says he plays his
guitar almost constantly. He is supposed to rest, rest, rest and he can
play guitar and watch tv. He wanted me to thank everyone for the cards
and notes. I just mailed a card yesterday, and I said...it sounds like you
don't need it! He said...NO! Send more. I get the feeling Slash is getting
bored. But he promises to stay home except for trips to the doctor. And
he wanted to be sure to let you know they are coming back! I told him
we could hold on and everyone is basically just looking forward to his
being well and getting to see a show.
I also wanted to mention that we are having the second contest on the
Slash page. I have 15 big posters and stickers from Koch to give away.
I'm doing them in groups of 5. This contest is a crossword puzzle. You
can find it on the Slash page...under Monday's news.

1. April, 2001 : Snakepit's Next Single Will Be "Shine" |
From Linda Scott on the Dust N' Bones mailing list. Here she mentions the order of the Snakepit single releases including that the next one will be "Shine" from the European tour:
Actually, it is the second video off the new album. Been There Lately was first - it was the first single. Next will be Shine which was made on the European tour, and of course it will be the third single.

Slash's Snakepit live is one of those experiences that is hard to describe in words. As usual, Slash has put together an excellent group of musicians who know how to showcase his guitar finesse with the greatest of raw talent. Rod Jackson really knows how to rock the crows with his amazing vocals and onstage antics. The crowd just roared when he sang sweetly into the security guard's ear, then moved the guard's hat to a more appropriate backwards position. He also wore these extremely sexy drawstring brown suede pants...I found my mind thinking of John Mellencamp's line about dribbling off those Bobbie Brooks, and letting me do what I please.... Well, Rod must have read my mind because right as Slash came to the mike to speak before the encore, Rod knelt in front of Slash and mooned the crowd!

Setlist
Life's Sweet Drug
Snakepit is an interesting mix of musicians, not to mention hairstyles (I have never seen dreadlocks, long curly hair and a mohawk on the same stage before), that is for sure, but surprisingly a good mix. Slash's guitar riffs are legendary and the show definitely showcased his talent. Rod has strong vocals and natural stage presence that stirred excitement and enthusiasm from the crowd.
Rod loved to snap off water bottle caps and fling them into the crowd. The crowd would go wild to get these souvenirs. Attesting to Slash's musical talents is the fact that when one of these caps hit his guitar during a killer riff and bounced off into the crowd, Slash didn't miss a note! I couldn't say the same of the air band section in the front row jamming along.
Let's not forget to mention Kerri Kelley and Johnny Blackout, adding a punk element with that fabulous trademark Mohawk, and Matt Laug!
Slash, we discovered a couple of days later, performed this show while being very ill. I must say that my respect for him increased tremendously when I realized that he gave this great of a performance for the fans while feeling so bad!
Try to catch Slash's Snakepit if they are ever touring your area. I guarantee it will be well worth it!
28. March, 2001 : Axl And Alanis To Do Duet? |
According to the French news site actustar.com, there is a possiblility that Axl Rose and Alanis Morissette will do a duo for the film "Lord Of The Rings". Thanks to gnrlive.com for bringing the article up. Following is a crude translation I did.
Axl Rose in duet with Alanis Morissette
Axl Rose, leader of Guns N' Roses would not be on the point to make a duet with the singer Alanis Morissette. A duet between the two singers would be indeed on the agenda to be reproduced on the tape announces to film the Lord Of The Rings who will leave to France at the end of the year. The recording of the piece would be done during the European round of the group. Before that, it is with new a bright burning coal group that Axl will have to reconquer the heart of its public. Exit Slash, Duff McKagan, Gilby Clarke and Matt Sorum, only the clavierist Dizzy Reed present in the formation since 1990, is always at the singers side. Axl had envisaged the output of a first extract (one speaks about Catcher in the Rye) of the future album Chinese Democracy set for spring, but Interscope, the house of disc of Guns N' Roses, did not still make any official mention in this direction. Chinese Democracy will be the first studio effort of the group since Use your illusion I and II and it has been announced for several years already. The group will begin its European round on May 26 with Milton Keynes, in England. In addition to England, it will pass by Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Holland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. An north-American round should follow as well as a round to South America, with the autumn. And contrary to what was announced on various occasions, Guns will not ensure the first part of the concert of AC/DC at the stage of France, June 22, they will be in Switzerland that day. Is no date (still?) envisaged in France (go, still a small effort, Mr. Rose...)

27. March, 2001 : New Event Added To GNR Tour |
This came from Jasper of the Dust N' Bones mailing list:
I'm proud to announce that there has been another gig added to the European tour of GNR. GNR will be headlining the Belgian festival 'Rock Werchter' at the 30th of June. Rock Werchter is one of Europe's biggest festivals, and formally know as 'Torhout/Werchter'. Other performers are (a.o.) Sting, Roxy Music, and Beck. Werchter is the name of the city where the festival takes place. Unfortunatly, Rock Werchter hasn't got a website. The ticketpresale has started, if you want any info, email me privatly (unless there is someone from Belgium on this list, since I'm Dutch). I'll be there, since I saw GNR for the first time at Werchter, back in 1993. cheers, Jasper

26. March, 2001 : Slash Contracts Pneumonia, Cancels Tour |
Latest news has it that Slash's illness has advanced to pneumonia. Luckily he took that much needed break though there aren't a lot of happy (or obviously "understanding" in the sense they're upset about losing money from their tickets they've purchased) fans out there who don't seem to realize just how serious this condition is! To put it simply, if one doesn't get the required treatment and rest, this can wind up becoming a fatal condition. Hopefully the fans out there can take the time and wish Slash the fullest recovery. The words of the fans can mean so much to an artist and no more so than in struggling times like these. Let's give the man a show of our own and send him some get well wishes and cards thanking him for the music and wishing him a speedy recovery:

23. March, 2001 : GNR, Beck, and Tool Set for Roskilde |
This is courtesy billboard:
Source: gnrbar.com posted by Dman.
Guns 'N Roses, Beck, Tool For Roskilde 2001
Guns 'N Roses, Beck, Tool, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Robbie Williams are among the acts confirmed to appear at this year's Roskilde Festival, to be held June 28-July 1 about 30 miles west of Copenhagen. Other performers include Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Filur, Hammerfall, Hakan Hellstrom, JJ72, Mayhem, and Ski Oakenfull.
Roskilde, first staged in 1970, is the world's longest-running outdoor music event. Last year's edition was tragically marred when nine people died as the result of a crowd crush during Pearl Jam's performance. Organizers claim that all possible measures have been taken to prevent a repeat of last summer's events.
An investigation ordered by the Danish Justice Ministry late last year concluded that despite poor communications among volunteer security people and uncertainty about the chain of command, the festival could not be held responsible for the deaths. The report concluded that the deaths were caused by "a combination of unfortunate circumstances and violent audience behavior."
In the past few years, Roskilde has trimmed the number of tickets on sale to the public from around 90,000 to 75,000.

23. March, 2001 : Rumors Of A GNR/STP Summer Tour |
Although it should be emphasized that it's only a rumor as of now, reports point to an increasingly possible tour between Guns n' Roses and the Stone Temple Pilots this summer.
"i was just listening to my radio station here in New York (92.3 K-Rock) and the Dj Will Pandarvis started playing a Stone Temple Pilots song and in his talk up said "This rumor about a Guns N' Roses/STP Summer Stadium Tour keeps getting stronger and stronger..." then he took a pause and before the vocals kicked in he whispered "we'll have your tickets" and the song kicked in. I rarerly take what a DJ says seriously, even on big radio stations cause I know a lot of djs who make up rumors on their own just for the sake of having something to talk about during their shift, or just to stir the pot...so I don't know how to take this little statement by Pandarvis....but here was something else to add wood to the fire -after the STP song was over they played "Mr. Brownstone" -coincidence or not?
Source: gnrbar.com posted by AxlDemocracy.
I think we should be hearing an announcement soon anyway on Guns N' Roses U.S. Tour plans very soon, so hopefully we will find out if this rumor will become truth or not."
20. March, 2001 : Slash Continues To Recover From Illness |
According to Linda Scott of the Snakepit List, Slash is recovering from an illness that has sidenlined him from his tour with AC/DC. Hopefully he'll be well enough to return to the stage sometime in April.
"Due to Slash's illness, Snakepit will not open for AC/DC for the shows
in March. Although he is feeling somewhat better, he is still not well.
He said he doesn't want to give a "half ass show", so he needs to stay
home and get better. Apologies to everyone...fans, AC/DC...for this. Slash says AC/DC is one of the best rock bands in the world, so go see them anyway. He hopes to be up on stage rocking in April if at all possible."

1. February, 2001 : Guns n' Roses Interview from Argentina |
Following is an article and interview that came out of Argentina. The article was translated with the help of an alta vista translator so it may be less than perfect. Note that I've changed a couple of obvious words as well such as "buildings" instead of the translated "constructions" so there are differences.
Axl Rose spent three days in Buenos Aires Were secret vacations "it had wanted to touch in Buenos Aires and in Chile but this time it could not be. And, as it were in Rio de Janeiro, I wanted to come to return to feel a little Buenos Aires." Thus Axl was expressed yesterday in the evening Rose, in an unexpected dialogue with Juan I gave to Natale emitted by Pop Rock and. The leader of Guns n' Roses arrived at the city Friday at night. Agreed with the reserved life absolutely that has been taking for years, he maintained his stay secret until in the evening he declared yesterday that he wanted to give a single note, to one local radio. In the meantime, and without being discovered nor being photographed, took a walk by the city, ate roasted and sushi, went to San Telmo and the Bullrich Patio. By the nights, it was in the Divine one and Buenos Aires News. Soon from the radial news article, the singer left for Chile. But before, he assured that he will come with the band before year end, possibly in November. "I want to touch here - insisted -, but the band still needs about five months test. Shows of Fertile valleys and Rock in Rio was and served very well to recover the energy and the enthusiasm, but we are going to arm a greater show for a world-wide tour", added. Also it commented the effect that produced to touch the old subjects to him. "He is very hard for me, as much emotional as mentally, because those were difficult times that we happened then with the old band", it said respect to the original formation, of which the tecladista Dizzy Reed only stays today. It added that the present musicians also resisted, at first, to make that repertoire. "They had the same attitude punk of the Guns of before, to touch own subjects and not of others. Finally, they were excited and we took it like something amused". With respect to its new disc, "Chinese democracy", that would be published in June, explained the extensive delay: "We composed and we recorded during several years and, during that time, there were changes in the band and the personnel of the record company. Whenever we believed to have good songs, somebody said that still they could be better. Then, we returned to write and to record. But now I feel that, when leaves to touch, proud and I will be trusted. Of step, I have some extra songs ". Finally, I gave Natale proposed to him that fans sent a message to him to its many Argentine. "the only thing that I mean is very many thanks for all the love and the support that I have received. I want them and I cannot hold the desire to touch here. It is going to be good."

Q:Good afeternoon Axl, it's a pleasure to have you back in Buenos Aires. How are you?
A:I'm doing very well, thank you.
Q: What brought you to Buenos Aires?, this is a surprise visit, nobody was expecting you at this time.
A: I wanted to come to play en Argentina and Chile also, well... that
didn't work out for us and I was in Brazil, in Rio, I said well it's been a long time since the last time in Argentina, why not to go to Argentina? I wanted to be here, that's why I came.
Q: How are you feeling in relation with the last time you were here?
A:the areas that I visited last time I see there are more buildings, more things. I've been having a great time since I arrived and the people have treated me in a wonderful way, I want to come to play here with the band maybe around fall, around November or so.
Q:We saw that you talked to the audience a lot at the show, how did you feel when it was over, when you left the stage?
A:It was something absolutely special, I received too much love from the audience in Brazil, they are very receptive,I tell you about the sound and the music, the show was really bad, but for me it was something very special because everything was very new for us and in such a huge show!!! It was good in that sense.
Q: You came back in a big show like Rock in Rio why did you decide it to do it that way?
A:Well, South America occupies a very, very special place in my heart,
everything that is South American and the people there is very emotional, well the management proposed to us to go and play there and we went. It seems great to me that the people were there to see me when they didn't know the new songs, the band is new, it has nothing to do to what I used to do before and that for me was something really special... and this show united us as a band.
Q:Talking about the band have you ever thought in all these years to come back as a solo artist instead of with GN'R?
A:Well... at one point yes, I thought about it but it seems to me that I need to be back as GN'R because the band has a very special place, has earned a very special place in a lot of people's hearts, and for me to be back under that name I want to revive that memory in every single one of the people that always followed the band and what makes me really happy is that I have people around me that help me and support this idea.
Q: How it was to teach the new member to play the old songs?
A: Well in the begining they didn't want to (laughs) in the beginning they
didn't like the idea very much, in that way they are similar to the old
members with that attittude of saying " I play my music not other people's
music" but later it became something funny for them to play and they began
to appreciate it a little bit more. That is what it's about and especially
Tommy, the bass player, he supports me a lot leading the band in the
rehearsals we did for Vegas and Rio.
Q: The question that everybody is asking is why is it taking so long, the
relesse of the new album?
A: What happened was first it took us several years to write and record
the songs - there were changes in the band, changes in the record
companies involved, changes in the people from the record companies...So
when we were ready to release something, everybody, especially at the
record company, wanted to help us to make the best possible album so when
we kinda had a concrete idea someone in the record company would say " no,
this could be better" so that makes for delays and we were writing again
and recording it again... Changes in the people that was what happended.
At this point I find myself, when the album come out, I'm gonna be very
proud, with a lot of confidence in what I'm doing and also I'm gonna have
some extra songs to play. It's important to me to make sure and clarify
that before Rock in Rio we only had six weeks of experience as a band, to
play all together and I'd like everybody to know that.
Q: What about the album, going to be more like industrial rock?
A: It could be that you have that idea of an industrial sound in the band
because of some of the songs that are not there any more, that are not
going to be realesed, no, it has nothing to do with industrial rock,
there is a song OMG that has an industrial side but the album is not like
that, it is a mixture of different styles, there are things mixed with
some blues sound. It's true that they don't have the inspiration of
Aerosmith or AC/DC like Appetite, this is not the case. Although Buckethed
became a guitar player because he is a fan of Angus[Young] and despite the
fact that he likes that music this kind of music is not very much like
that. The former GN'R members solo projects go in that direction and I
think they sound kinda old. Let me tell you, I didn't compose those kinds
of songs because I think that today to make that kind of music would sound
a little bit old. I'd like to have a new influential sound that sounds
good - that is something alive not something old.
Q: Talking about Buckethead, there were fans in Rock in Rio that thought
that it was Slash wearing a mask. What can you say about that?
A: Yeah, I heard that rumor and I know on the INTERNET they made polls
about it...It makes me laugh because when this occurred I hadn't met
Buckethead yet, it was crazy but I guess because of the hair and his look maybe people were confused.
Q: The last quetion - we know you're on vacation so we wanna leave you to
enjoy it. How do you see yourself as a musician and performer now that is
different from 10 years ago?
A:Well... after the experience in Vegas and Rio I think that if we really
want to be a tour band we'd need about 5 more months to go on tour for
the summer. I would have loved to play in Argentina... these two shows
helped me a lot to recover energy and enthusiasm. It was what I needed,
it was hard emotionally and mentally to go back and sing the old songs
because it brought to mind the difficult moments that I had with the old
band but the new members made everything very exciting, so I'd like to
see this band solidified and they can show what they are really capable
of doing. Although these shows were good, I think we need more time.
Q: Well Axl, thanks a lot for your time. Do you have something to say to
your fans in Argentina?
A:I want to tell them that I thank them very much, thanks for the love
they give me and the support. I want to tell them that I feel, I feel
what they want to transmit and I'm totally thankful and I really can't
wait to come here and play here again and see them again.

15. January, 2001 : Guns n Roses Rio Coverage |
Following are some articles collected from various sources on the net. The Guns n' Roses gig at Rio was an obvious smashing success. Even the fans could not hold back their chants of "Guns n Roses!" during the performances of Papa Roach and Oasis, obviously disturbing Noel Gallagher who only the other day had made a snide remark at the band. The following are the news but the MTV report from Kurt Loder I put in the articles section.

Guns N' Roses Use Classics, Commentary To Impress At Rock In Rio
Jan 15, 2001, 9:50 am PT
The amassed crowd of 200,000 at the Rock in Rio on Sunday (Jan. 14), which waited until the late hour of 2 a.m. for confirmation that reclusive Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose is indeed among the living, got more than it bargained for.
Not only did Rose appear, but throughout the two-hour and fifteen-minute, 22-song set, he quite possibly reclaimed the rock and roll crown he abandoned eight years ago as well as used the time to make several speeches. "Welcome to the Jungle" commenced the band's triumphant return to Rock in Rio, a festival they also played in 1991, sparking a crowd eruption rarely rivaled in rock and roll today. Clad in trainer pants and an open shirt, Rose didn't skip a beat from his control-freak Use Your Illusion days.
Midway through the song, Rose demanded of security, "Get that guy out of here. Are you listening to me Mr. Security guard? That guy. Out." It wasn't clear what sparked the outburst, but clearly one man's Guns N' Roses dream ended after a mere two minutes. For the rest of us, it went on until nearly sunrise. Rose's revolving-door band -- currently consisting of Buckethead, Robin Finck, Tommy Stinson, Paul Tobias, Dizzy Reed, Chris Pittman, and Brain -- was spot-on musically, proving that the band's triumphant Las Vegas show was not a fluke (allstar, Jan. 2).
After "Mr. Brownstone," Rose enlisted the use of a translator for first of many speeches on the evening in which he addressed his former bandmates, the Internet, his new band, and his life in general for most of the '90s. "I know that many of you are disappointed that some of the people that you came to know and love could not be here with us here today," said Rose.
"Regardless of what you have heard or read," he continued, "people worked very hard -- meaning my former friends -- to do everything they could so I could not be here today. I say fuck that. I am as hurt and disappointed as you that unlike Oasis, we could not find a way to all just get along... so much for the past. This is "Live and Let Die."
Guns played five new tracks on the night, one of which was not included in their New Year's Eve warm-up show in Vegas ("Madagascar"). The first, "Oh My God," appeared five songs into the set. The live version scaled back the industrial feel of the recorded version and featured a heavy, crunching guitar line courtesy of Buckethead. After "Think About You" and "You Could Be Mine," Finck took center stage, addressing the crowd in Portuguese, and grinding through a take on Brazilian funk-soul legend Tim Maia's "Sossego." As Finck wreaked funky havoc on the guitar, his vocals on the song were overshadowed by the crowd's own singing. It was a gesture much appreciated by the band's Brazilian fans.
The highlight of the set came next, as "Sweet Child O' Mine" sounded as fantastic as it did the day it was recorded. "Madagascar" followed, the best of the new tracks. A subtle electronic backbeat and keyboard-produced horn section propelled the mid-tempo ballad, which featured Rose lamenting, "I can't find my way back anymore..." before succumbing to a flood of movie and speech samples. If the new tracks maintain this level of aptitude, he won't need to go back anywhere.
Before another new track, "Chinese Democracy," Rose explained the band's stance on the old material. "We've done one show before this and already we have been criticized for playing old songs," he said. "But I have no intention and I never did of denying you all something you enjoyed. And I thought it was only fair for you to see that this new band can play the fuck out of these songs. It's very hard to ask a musician to learn to play the part or parts played by other musicians before that. These guys here have worked very hard."
As the set winded down, "The Blues," another new track (the closest of the new efforts to the Use Your Illusion era), saw Rose hop on top of the piano where he sang the respectable rock ballad. Before "Nightrain," Rose lashed out at the Internet. "I used to go on the Internet but the Internet seems to be the big garbage can so I don't read the things that they say on the Internet anymore," he said. Rose's vocals faded in and out of the mix during the song, which ended the main set.
The band returned for "My Michelle" and another new track, "Silkworms." An unworthy electro-funk jam featuring a near-rap by Rose, the song fell flat and is probably a good example of the kind of electronic rock Rose has been working on for the past eight years. Altered from the version played in Vegas on New Year's, the song did not work in the context of an encore for a show of this magnitude.
As the band departed once more, fans were oddly treated with a Brazilian dance interlude courtesy of several traditionally dressed rump shakers. Now pushing past the 4 a.m. mark, Rose and Co. appeared for one last song, "Paradise City," which began with onstage pyrotechnic explosions and fireworks and followed suit sonically.
When it was over, Rose introduced his Brazilian assistant, who he credited with holding down the Axl Rose fort for the last seven years. In tears as his assistant translated the speech into Portuguese, the moment was a truly genuine streak of humbleness for the singer, as the weight on his shoulders throughout the '90s had surely, after his reception in Rio, been lifted.
"Peace," said Rose in closing. "I love you. I will be back here next summer with a whole bunch of new songs. Be good to each other and we'll see you later."

From Yahoo! news:
Frenzied Fans Make Waves at 'Rock in Rio' Festival
By Katherine Baldwin
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Reuters) - More than 200,000 frenzied fans rocked into the early hours of Monday as heavy metal favorite Guns N' Roses fired up the third night of a mega-music festival gripping Rio de Janeiro.
But earlier acts Oasis of Britain and Brazilian pop star Carlinhos Brown received a cooler welcome as restless onlookers launched plastic bottles and cups at bands that failed to live up to their heavy metal expectations.
A paunchy Axl Rose exploded onto the stage amid fireballs and big-screen images of naked women for a mammoth show that closed the first night of hard rock of this seven-day extravaganza, called ``Rock in Rio for a Better World.''
Rose's shrieking rendition of old favorites ``Welcome to the Jungle'' and ``Sweet Child o' Mine'' stirred the exhausted crowd to life after Oasis left some unexcited onlookers dozing to all but the most popular songs, like ``Champagne Super Nova.''
Guns N' Roses thrilled fans with a new lineup and new releases in its first big stage concert in seven years. The group played at a smaller gig in Las Vegas.
But local act Brown suffered a similar fate to Oasis as his Afro-Brazilian percussion and reggae mix failed to stir up the adolescent crowd and his calls for ``Peace in the world and vibrations for a better world!'' fell on deaf ears.
``This doesn't even seem like a rock festival,'' one disgruntled fan shouted. ``Everybody is playing here, they've even got some Indian up there dancing,'' he said, referring to Brown, who wore a straw headdress.

Guns N' Roses Rock Rio; New Pictures; Live Bootlegs Surface!!!
Guns N' Roses Play Rock In Rio To Ecstatic Reception; Audio Bootlegs Of Live Shows Surface On The Net
As live bootlegs of the Guns N' Roses' new line-up surface on the net, GN'R singer (and the only original member) Axl Rose took his new outfit to Rio De Janeiro for the Rock In Rio Festival last night and rocked the elated crowd of 200,000.
On Sunday, January 14th at 2am, the retooled GN'R blazed through a two-hour and fifteen-minute, 22-song set that leaned heavily on vintage Guns material but, like the Las Vegas set on January 1st, featured some choice selection from the upcoming Chinese Democracy album. Opening with "Welcome to the Jungle" Axl screamed, "Do you know where you are? You're in the jungle baby! You're gonna die!!!" as his band tore into the classic cut with precision and aplomb.
Dressed in trainer pants and an open shirt, Rose stormed the stage, the same one he stalked when GN'R played the festival in 1991, with an abundance of energy and bravado. Like the days of old, he controlled the show with iron fist, at one point toward the beginning of the set, yelling at a security guard, "Get that guy out of here. Are you listening to me Mr. Security guard? That guy. Out." Rose also used a translator for his between song speeches, of which there were many. At one point, Axl even mentioned his former bandmates, saying, "I know that many of you are disappointed that some of the people that you came to know and love could not be here with us here today. Regardless of what you have heard or read, people worked very hard -- meaning my former friends -- to do everything they could so I could not be here today. I say fuck that. I am as hurt and disappointed as you that unlike Oasis, we could not find a way to all just get along...so much for the past. This is 'Live and Let Die.'" The band then tore into the Paul McCartney classic madefamous by the old line-up.
The new line-up - currently featuring of Buckethead, Robin Finck, Tommy Stinson, Paul Tobias, Dizzy Reed, Chris Pittman, and Brain - ripped through the classics like they'd been playin' 'em since '87, but it was the new songs that many were curious to hear. Rose debuted two songs that were not in the Vegas set, "Madagascar," in addition to the five others that he debuted during the New Years Eve performance, "Oh My God" (the only one to have been released, on the End Of Days soundtrack), "The Blues," "Silkworms," "Chinese Democracy," and "Rhiad & The Bedouins." In addition to the obvious hits, the band played several GN'R tunes that had not been played since the very early days, including "Think About You" and "My Michele." Rose also addressed the old school Guns heavy set, saying, "We've done one show before this and already we have been criticized for playing old songs. But I have no intention and I never did of denying you all something you enjoyed. And I thought it was only fair for you to see that this new band can play the fuck out of these songs. It's very hard to ask a musician to learn to play the part or parts played by other musicians before that. These guys here have worked very hard."
He closed the set with, "I love you. I will be back here next summer with a whole bunch of new songs. Be good to each other and we'll see you later." For the hardcore Guns fans who can't wait that long, many of the songs from the New Years Eve show at House Of Blues and even songs from last night's show are already surfacing on the internet. Audio Galaxy and gnrlive.net are among the sites that feature both new and old songs from the two concerts. All the versions appear to be bootlegs made by audience members and are rough quality (though the Rio ones could possibly be from the soundboard, but a rough mix for sure). A run through of the tunes reveals that "The Blues" is a "November Rain"-style piano ballad, "Silkworms" is an electronica influenced opus, "Rhiad & The Bedouins" is an upbeat rocker with cool Zepplin-esque verses but a so-so "Oh Oh Oh" chorus. The best tune is the title track from the new album, a balls out rocker in the tradition of Use Your Illusion. "Madagascar" has yet to surface. In general, the live versions are definitely much more rockin' than one might suspect, and less industrial sounding than many feared. We'll just have to wait and see what the studio efforts sound like.

THE GAME OF THE ROSE GUNS N' ROSES are among the first acts to arrive in BRAZIL for their ROCK IN RIO III headline show on Sunday (January 14), and already AXL ROSE is back on top rock star strop form! NME.COM is out in Rio, and the band, who are expected to arrive at Galeao Airport soon, have already been creating waves, we can report. Having decided that the accommodation already booked for him wasn't up to scratch, Rose has rented an entire floor of the five-star Intercontinental Hotel for his entourage, and is paying for it out of his own pocket. Axl himself will be staying in the #1,000-a-night Presidential Suite, which measures 185 square metres, faces the sea and has a huge Jacuzzi. He has requested it to be filled with roses, and champagne and Godiva chocolates have also been requested. At the festival site, the band have demanded 24 white roses, plus 24 red roses in the dressing room, Cristal champagne in a silver bucket with crystal glasses, silver cutlery, and linen sheets and two boxes of Godiva chocolate in their dressing room
ROSES GUNNING FOR THE UK
GUNS N'ROSES are believed to be lining up two UK shows this summer, in addition to their previously announced European festival dates.
According to Kerrang! magazine, they will play Britain in June, and the gigs are likely to be at football stadiums.
The band - whose line-up comprises Axl Rose from the original Guns N'Roses line-up and keyboardist Dizzy Reed from their last incarnation, plus Buckethead, Robin Finck and Paul Tobias on guitars, Tommy Stinson on bass, Brian 'Brain' Mantia on drums, and additional keyboard/percussionist Chris Pittman - made their live "comeback" at Las Vegas House Of Blues on New Year's Eve.
As revealed on NME.COM previously, they have confirmed their first European gigs for eight years. They are to play at the Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park festivals between June 1 and 3. There is also believed to be an additional show at Arnhemse's Gelredome in Holland, although the date could not be confirmed.
Before that, they appear at the Rock In Rio festival on Sunday (January 14).

GUNS N' ROSES have confirmed their first EUROPEAN show in almost eight years at the German ROCK AM RING festival.
They will be joined by Limp Bizkit, while Neil Young, Tool have been approached to play the event, which takes place between June 1-3 at the Nurburgring Race Track. The show will be the rockers first German show since 1993. Guns N' Roses made their return to the live arena following a seven-year live exile at the Las Vegas House Of Blues on New Year's Eve. They will also play the Rock In Rio festival in Brazil this month, and it is widely predicted that they will undertake a tour of the world to promote their forthcoming album 'Chinese Democracy', released in summer.

Thanks to the efforts of some out there, the Las Vegas song Chinese Democracy was at least partially transcribed. The best and most complete transcription to date comes from Jonathan Lee and thanks to him, you can find the lyrics in the new Chinese Democracy section.
According to Metaledge Online and Yahoo Daily news, Axl's stalker, Karen McNeil will continue to serve time, only in a mental hospital. The convicted stalker faced trouble when she had continued to harass Axl Rose by sending him mail while in Jail.
Axl Rose's stalker doesn't give up easily. While in jail for violating probation after being convicted for stalking Rose, Karen McNeil violated a court order by sending letters to Rose. McNeil will be sent back to her native Ohio--far away from Rose's Malibu digs--to serve three years in a psychiatric hospital.

I collected a couple of wonderful reviews from the gnrbar and here they are:
-----------------------------------------------
1. From ClockworkOrange at the gnrbar messageboard:
All I can say is holy shit. This band is better then any other GNR lineup.
First you might want a update on how everybody is looking and all.
Axl- ok I take it back. Remember when I posted that "Axl got fat" thread? Well he is not. And it looks like he didn't age at all. He came out with these cool red shades, black pants (i don't know what they are called but they are those shinny addias work out pants), and a black button up silk shirt that had a dragon on it.
Tobias- this guy looks like Kurt Cobain
Buckethead- he was dressed like always. Mask and KFC bucket with yellow jacket.
Finck- He was in makeup. Looked awesome
Tommy- looks like a punk rocker cause thats what he is.
Brain- This guy is the most awesome drummer. Ten times better then Sorum and Adler. I also caught a drum stick that he threw.
Dizzy- Dizzy lost like 100 fuckin pounds. He looks awesome. He's got long hair and a goatie.
There was some other band member. He was all gothic. He also played keyboards. I didn't get his name though.
The set list: The pretty much played every song on Appetite with the exception of Anything Goes. They even played Think About You. They played Patience from Lies. Nothing much from UYI1. They played Live And Let Die and November rain. From UYI2, Knockin' On Heaven's Door and You Could Be Mine. From Chinese Democracy, Oh My God (this song is so badass live), TWAT, Chinese Democracy, The Blues, and another song but I could not hear the title of it. The lyrics were something like "ooooooooo my frustration."
You guys don't have to worry about shit. The new stuff fuckin rules. It is industrial but it sounds fuckin great. Don't listen to any of that shit "oh its still not GNR. I hate this new sound." Thats bullshit. This new shit is way harder then anything on Appetite.
Before the show they had a huge screen in the backround. It first showed a cartoon version of Axl being treated like a king. People wiping his ass. Then it starts showing all this gruesome shit like people getting shot and during it they had a quote from the Exorcist 3. Axl was in a great mood. Him and Stenson kept smiling at each other and laughing. Axl joked around about how Tobais "was my friend since I was 12 and now you guys know what he looks like so you can go home and type it out that he sucks and all." Axl also explained the meaning of Chinese Democracy but I could barely hear him. The guy next too me was screaming too loud. He was saying something about the end of Cocoon where everybody is dead and somehow it tied in but I could not hear it. There was a chant while Axl was waiting for somebody to fix Dizzy's piano and we were all yelling "WELCOME BACK!WELCOME BACK!" and Axl just started blusing.
As for me, I wait 6 hours in line (even though I had a 250 ticket which means I didnt have to wait), 3 hours standing and waiting for Axl to play and 3 hours for the show. I was the 4th person in line. I talked with some fellow GNRers and one of them visits this site (hey man). As soon as I got in I ran my ass to the floor seats and...I GOT FRONT ROW CENTER! Like 10 feets away from Axl. Damn that was awesome. Lots of psuhing and shoving. Like I said I got a drum stick from Brain. I also got a badass T-shrt after the show that has a chinese dude with his hands behind his back and on the bottom it says "new years eve, las vegas 01-01-01" on the back it says "Chinese Democracy Starts Now!"
Well thats all I can say now cause I have a bunch of people who want to know about. I'll post more later. Ask me anything about it. i missed my fuckin plain flight for Axl but my uncle got me home. Anyways later. GNR 4 LIFE!!!
-----------------------------------------------
2. This one also published from "ClockworkOrange" at the gnrbar:
Ok I really review these songs because I only heard them once, could not really make out the lyrics, and there were fans screaming and yelling. But I did like them all so they all get a thumbs up from me.
Oh My God- This isn;t really a new song. You've all heard it. The live version is better. Had more effects and it was harder.
The Blues- This song started with Dizzy(anorexic man)on piano. It sounds really nice. Sorta like the intro to Nov Rain. Then BAM!! The drums kick in. Its like a slow rock song
Oklahoma- this had a lot of the good ol' Axl screeching. The main part I remember is the "ooooooooooooooooooooo my frustration." This song is fast and hard.
TWAT- Axl sings this song really fast. Like the others, awesome guitar, drums were kick ass. The start of this song is very industrial. Has that robot kind of sound.
Chinese Democracy- This was my favorite out of the new stuff. Either this or The Blues. This song had more meaning then the others. Which I could have heard more of it but people don't know when to shut the fuck up and when to stop yelling right in my ear.
Anyways, this is the best review I can give you guys so far. Most of these songs are deep into the industrial stuff. The Blues it more of a rock song. I think you guys will all dig that song.
