Military Service It's easy to single out ancestors who served in the military, aside from the incredible find such records might be genealogically. Even today, there's an honour attached to the military, in war or peace. But more importantly, there's the feeling of pulling that ancestor's shoes on mentally. "Had it been me, I would have done the same. I would have answered the call for King and Country and done what needed to be done in that service." I'd like to think I would have anyway. I'm hardly immune to the effect myself and I'm developing a fascination with Military History that time doesn't currently permit. I'll begin with my direct line ancestors, possibly adding in other relatives as resources permit - there are one or two who made careers in the military during peacetime, plus a number of great-uncles, gg-uncles, and cousins I'm aware of in both World Wars as well as one or two earlier conflicts.
