I am now officially an author. That's right, I've sold a story.  "Interview With a Modern Vampire" appears in the September/October 2003 Issue (#31) of Planet Relish E-zine, an online genre humour magazine.

That said, welcome to my ego page. For some reason, I've decided that it is worth opening up to a little commentary and post a few fragments of my writing, dividing up into four separate categories, all of which will be rotated regularly (maybe). Whether that's weekly, monthly, or something longer, or something in between depends on real world commitments.

First, a poem. This may be some piece of emotional doggerel from my teen years or something a little more recent. I do still manage to produce a few here and there, though they're far more widely scattered than during my hormone filled adolescence. Hopefully a little better, too.

A short story, or part of one in progress. I'll try to keep these to a couple of thousand words or less so that they don't take very long to load or read. More likely than not, any story I choose to put up will fall into either the SF or Fantasy genres, as most of what I write is covered under one of these. All previously unpublished material, but still under copyright, of course.

An excerpt from one of my novels. I'm actually plodding along on several right now, though not very quickly. Life with small children limits writing time and I use most of that time on another project. Whatever excerpt appears will almost certainly be a first draft, copied directly from a word processor file. As such, it will be very rough and may have few redeeming qualities. You've been warned.

An excerpt from my Biography, the project I spend much of my writing time on. This isn't really a biography in the classic sense of the word, more of a collection of memories and events. It grew out of my Genealogy hobby. It's difficult to learn a great deal about one's ancestors - names, dates, occupations, residences, children, and so on. Not much in the way of real life details can be picked up from records, although definitely more than most people think. I decided I could correct that for myself and, to a limited extent, my immediate family. Even more limited for some closer relatives. I'm also trying to gather a few family stories and legends to include. Perhaps some day, I'll write a family history of sorts, as well. The excerpts I'll use on this site will typically be a self-contained memory or event, or an account of something that affected me in some strong way. At this point, I'm still documenting my way through my university years, working my way towards the present, and that only a first draft. The writing here may be a little rough, too.

I'm also including a page, of publication credits and notices. So far, at least, there's only one (mentioned above) notice here. A sibling of this page, the Mailbox Report, will track the comings and goings of my submissions.

Lastly, a page of links. A couple of contests and my favourite magazine and book publishers in the main with maybe a couple of instructional items as well, if I've found them helpful in some fashion. I'll happily check out any suggestions, but don't guarantee to list them.
