Hope this e-mail finds you and your family in the best of health. We are doing OK and we are hopefully looking forward to seeing you and many other shipmates in October.

Leon and I are very concerned at this time about the response to our 2008 Reunion. We know this is only the first of May and the reunion is not until October 5th, but the only shipmate that has sent a check to attend is Jack McGee. I do remember, however, in 2006, the majority of shipmates waited until a few months before to send in their reservation. This is understandable because most people probably feel at this early time they do not want to shell out $90.00 per person, especially the way the economy is presently.

I was at the Orleans this past weekend and also checked room reservations, and no body has even booked their rooms. According to the contract, only the first night is charged to a credit card and the reservation can be canceled 72 hrs before checkin. With this policy, this is another reason we cannot understand why rooms haven't been booked.

In checking our contract we signed with the Orleans – here are a few points:

The hotel will waive all meeting room rental if we have 50 people. If not, we will be charged $350.00 for each room that day (ships’meeting/banquet dinner) and the buffet price will also go up. I also checked regarding the return of our $500.00 deposit if we should have to cancel. If this were done in a timely manner, we would get our deposit returned.

In checking the DJ’s contract, we would loose the $100.00 that was given to him.

Let’s hope things pickup soon. Possibly Bill, in the next ICHI ICHI GO KU, you can mention our concern. As you realize, we have put in a great effort to date on this reunion and it would be very embarrassing to us and hurt future reunions with the hotel, if we had to cancel.

Our best,
Marlene & Leon
