and married Patience, in April of 1631. In about 1640, Patience's father, James Hurst, erected the first tanning works in the town. He tanned wolf skins for the Pilgrims. Patience died in 1648 and Henry married Sarah in 1649. |

where he opened a Yankee store on the Seaside Road about a mile from Cobb's Station. In the following May, he purchased what is now known as Cobb's Island, from Hardtime Fitchett for $100 in gold and a two-horse wagon load of salt. He erected a hotel and cottages for hunters, fisherman and summer vacationers. The area was very popular after the Civil War. Before the life-saving station was established by the Coast Guard, in 1874, the Cobbs did a brisk business in life saving and cargo salvage from wrecked ships. They rescued people from at least 37 vessels. |

b. 18 Oct 1780, Falmouth, Maine; d. 20 May 1824, Vassalboro, Kennebec, Maine and was buried there; married in Friends meeting house at Falmouth, 20 Sept 1801, Joseph Allen, b. 7 Jan 1773, Windham, Maine, son of Peletiah and Hannah (Hall) Allen of Matinicus Island off Penobscot Bay, on the coast of Maine and grandson of Francis and Mary Allen, who came from England and settled in Kittery Maine. He died at Vassalboro, 8 April 1861 and was buried there. He was a farmer; settled in Vassalboro, where he spent the remainder of his life, with the exception of five years’ residence in Windham.
