The second of this unprecedented 2 performance engagement with Lowen & Navarro boasted a crowd of first-timers to the house and many to the house concert concept itself. One guest brought a large platter of chocolate-covered strawberries! Yum! The crowd was lively yet relaxed and ready to enjoy an evening of quality music.
Lowen & Navarro mentioned to me at one point that they didn't plan to repeat many songs from the previous night. They worked without a set list and let the energy and the music flow as the crowd and the atmosphere dictated. This spontaneity was marked by impromptu and rigorous renditions of "Louie, Louie" at the suggestion of Jeff Berkley, who joined them on djembe, and "Leavin' on a Jet Plane" which someone in the crowd started when a plane flew over the house (a commone occurence).
But the duo performed some of their own tunes as well, such as "'Til the Well Runs Dry," "Time is a Healer" and "Rapt in You." Berkley continued to sit in with the guys in the second set in which they performed "Broken Moon," "Walking on a Wire" and "Just to See You" among others.
One moment I remember distinctly was walking outside to get a photo looking in and noticed one guest who had decided to enjoy the music under the stars. With the front door and the windows open, it was easy to hear the music outside (though not disturbingly so) and this guest had taken a seat in the driveway to take it all in.
As the second set concluded, a standing ovation ensued and Lowen & Navarro returned to finish this 2-night stand of music with the popular hit, "We Belong." A special note with this song is that Navarro performs the second verse in Spanish and Lowen jumps in on the chorus also in Spanish. It's a wonderful detail that makes the song their own. They followed that with a wonderful version of "Seven Bridges Home."
My sincere thanks to all the wonderful people who were
able to be part of these evenings and to Lowen & Navarro for their generous
spirit and music.
