Capital Crescent Trail Trail Mileage Information |
![]() |
One of the newest trails in the Washington, DC area is the Capital Crescent
Trail. While the Capital Crescent is a new trail, it is already one of the
best trails in the region. The trail begins currently in downtown Bethesda and
arcs its way through suburban Maryland until it runs into Washington DC.
The lower three miles of the trail parallel the C&O Canal Towpath, providing a paved alternative to the dirt-surfaced Towpath from Fletcher's Boathouse into Georgetown. Bridges have been built for nearly all of the intersections along the route. Eventually, the trail may reach all the way to Silver Spring on the northern side. The sections of the trail that do not parallel the Towpath are smoothly paved, wide trails that cut through the suburban neighborhoods. There is a good amount of shade along this route, but no available water.
There is an excellent page on all of the Washington Area Rail to Trails, including the Capital Crescent Trail. Also covered on the page are the B&A Trail, the W&OD, the Northern Central Railroad Trail in the DC area. Very good page, complete with maps. The Capital Crescent Trail is a great addition to the area's trail system. Main ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Comments, advice, submissions, and other stuff can be sent to JeffReed88@yahoo.com |
