Smoke City #1
Smoke City is a chart topping british musical group. They play (in a general way) Acid Jazz and Trip Hop mixing with Bossa Nova and Samba from Brasil. Their label is Jive/Zomba (Distributed by Virgin).
Perhaps you already saw one of their videos on tv, like Underwater Love (which was Top Ten in several countries in Europe), Mr Gorgeous or Águas de Março (Joga Bossa Mix).
In Brasil, their first record - Flying Away (1997) - has been published by Virgin, but is very hard to find. In UK you can also find the singles: Mr Gorgeous, Underwater Love, Joga Bossa and With You. In late 1999 the album have been re-issued with lower price, so maybe you can find it as a import or via internet in UK online stores.
Chris Frank side project is Da Lata, which released in 2000 the first full length, entitled Songs from the Tin.
The second album followed after four years Heroes of Nature (2001).

Heroes of Nature (2001) is out! After it was delayed from August 6 to August 13, Smoke City second full length finally been released in europe.

The date is set! Heroes of Nature is the name of new Smoke City album, and will be released on next August 6 in europe! At last :)
On the site, some additions of albums in which Nina features on previously unreleased tracks: Nitin Sawhney's new record Prophesy (2001), released on June 18 on europe; Robert Miles' Organik (2001), released on May 22; Compost 100 (2001) compilation from the excellent german label Compost, released on May 15.
Do you have more info about Shrift or Arkestra One? Apparently Nina is working with then too. Message me please if you know anything.

Very good news! Chris Franck said we can expect a new Smoke City album later this year! No further info on that, though. Thanks to Norman van den Wildenberg for the information. Also added pages for Da Lata's Songs From the Tin (2000) (Chris Franck co-project) and Nitin Sawhney's Beyond Skin (1999) (in which Nina participates in one song).

Hey! More scans! :) Now sent by Darren from Australia. Thank you very much. They are from 2000's Jug 12" single, check then out. None of the tracks feature Nina's vocals, and she's not listed on the credits also. I don't have any further news about the band, sorry.
Important: If you sent e-mail to the address on the end of this page in the period from December 00 to March 01, please re-send it. I had problems with it, but now it's ok.

24/Jan/2001 Smoke City released a vinyl single in June/2000 called "Jug", on Humble records (HUM008), described by a online store as "Deep dub flavoured upbeat latin from Smoke City backed with Christ And Brown - a more rootsy stripped down latin beats-fest". Tracks are Smoke City-"Jug" (original & version)/Chris & Brown-"Hawaii". I don't have further information about it, E-Mail me if you have any or if you own it. Gilles Peterson was playing it in his radio show as of late 2000.
