Feena

Gillith's clutch decided to hatch early in the morning. Feena, still rather sleepy, jumped out of bed quickly and ran to the sands. Her white robe tripped her up slightly and she stumbled into the hatching grounds. Luckily, since most people were half asleep, no one noticed. Feena herself was half-asleep and shook her head to clear the sleep.

Kaye, Feena's green firelizard, flew around Feena's head and then joined the other firelizards flying above the hatching grounds.

The rest of the candidates filed in and waiting in silence for the hatching to commence. Feena sighed, slightly impatient. Well, not silence. These dragons are humming loud enough to wake the dead! She knew she should be patient, but waiting wasn't one of her strong points. She started to tap her foot as the eggs started to crack. Gillith gave the young girl a mean look. Feena gulped and stopped tapping. The first egg cracked, a dragonet emerged and impressed. Feena held her breath. With my luck I'm not going to impress until the end, or not at all. She tried to push that thought from her mind as she watched pair after pair leave the sands.

Feena sighed deeply as she watched the young queen impress to someone else. She wasn't really disappointed that she didn't impress the queen, she knew she didn't have what it took to be a Weyrwoman, but that was one less chance she had to impress. There couldn't be that many eggs left, maybe she wouldn't impress. She gulped and tried not to let anyone see how nervous she was. Suddenly she saw two eggs burst. They were both beautiful greens and they were walking towards her. Her heart leapt as a voice entered her mind.

My name is Olyth. I'm hungry.

Feena smiled and put her hands on her hips. "Of course you're hungry Olyth! You were just born! Let's go get you something to eat."

Olyth nodded and walked next to Feena. Sorry I made you wait so long. Did I scare you?

Feena smiled. "Not at all Olyth. I knew you were coming and I don't mind waiting."

Olyth creeled and nudged Feena with her head. Don't lie. My brothers and sisters have told me what you thought about waiting for so long.

Feena laughed as she reached the feeding grounds with her new lifemate. "Okay, so I'm a little impatient."

Olyth began to eat. I thought you wouldn't wait for me.

Feena yawned. She leaned against a wall. Olyth put her head in Feena's lap and let Feena scratch her eye ridges. "I would have waited for you Olyth." Feena mummbled as she nodded off. "I would have waited forever for you...."
